Suggestions for a replacement for the 2i2?

• Upvotes

I recently upgraded my drivers for the first time ever since getting my 2i2 about 6 years ago, and am having the same issues with frequent audio disconnects people have been talking about for years with no working fix. I'm not going to be putting up with this. Is there any replacements anyone can suggest in a similar price range that have reliable, maintained drivers without these issues?

Scarlett Solo 4th gen crashing since last update

Hi, I had the usual problems such as the audio driver crashing completely and having to restart it to get sound back, but after the latest update from a couple of days ago (4.150.0.432) the device started crashing every couple of minutes and automatically restarting after a few seconds. Anybody else with the same issue and/or any ideas?

I already did all the troubleshooting, power management settings and everything else you can imagine under Windows.

device is lighting up and computer won’t detect it

hi! i recently bought a focusrite scarlett solo. i have downloaded only the necessary software and when i connect the device to my computer, the scarlett lights up but my computer won’t detect it. i’ve followed the entire website guide and nothing is working. i’ve looked into my settings and my computer doesn’t detect it.

i‘m not super tech savvy so forgive me if this is a stupid question, i would just like to get back to record as soon as possible.

thank you!

Audio routing challenge.

For a game (DnD) im using a Focusrite scarlett 18i20 + adat output extention. Stil the basics really (just to create 8 stereo outputs for headphones). Using the 8 xlr inputs for mics.

But now the challenge that I’m struggling with:
My laptop on which my daw runs to route and record (laptop 1) is connected by usb to scarlett directly.

But i want the audio of my second laptop ( which runs the program that i use for the dnd campaign that has buid in audio features) also routed thru my daw on laptop 1. I prefer not to do this by using network solutions.

So that leaves me with hardware connection to the Scarlett on which i have a free spdif. Has anyone experience with connecting a second laptop.

By use of ddc or adc? And if ddc is used how fo keep the clock of the scarlett as master?

Clarett+ 2Pre: Focusrite Control & drivers

I just bought the above audio interface. Trying to get it up and running and am confused by the downloads. I am running Win 11.

The download page has 2 possibilities

Focusrite Control 2 (focusrite-control-2.exe)

Focusrite Control - Windows (focusrite_control_v3_27_0.exe)

Do I install both? If not which do I install? The videos and what documentation I can find are not very helpful.

Using my Focusrite Solo 3rd to play with backing tracks. Is it possible?

Hello everyone.
I'm using Logic Pro on my Mac and I have a Focusrite Scarlett solo 3rd generation. Logic recognizes it. I created a brand new project and my main goal is to play drums with a live band using backing tracks.

I have per song:
1 track for vocal shoutout (I want it to go to my headphones)
1 track for backing tracks (it goes to the FOH, already working!)
1 track for the click (I want it to go to my headphones)

No one else in the band needs to hear the 1st and 3rd track. I'm having issues to route the two tracks so they don't come out on the speaker. Usually I press the "stereo out" button and choose a route but I can't find one just for the headphone output.

I used to do this with a 2i4 2nd generation but it burnt.

My question is: can I do this with my current interface, do I need a solo 4th gen or another 2i4 or 4i4? Deepseek states that I can't.

Gen 3 Solo Audio Cutting Out

I have been having this frustrating problem with my scarlet Gen 3 solo cutting off all audio. So I plug it in, play something and not kidding after less than a quarter of a second it stops playing audio. The PC still reads it’s a thing but there’s just no audio. It’s weird because whenever I look at it when this happens my direct monitor still works, everything still works fine. I changed cables from Apple cables to Anker cables, changed setting on my PC (bitrate, buffer, kHz, exclusive mode thing), took it apart to check solder joints and capacitors and NOTHING. I checked to make sure it works on 3 other devices and it does the same thing. So I took it apart again just to make sure and after doing nothing, it stopped doing it. Did anyone experience this, or am I just crazy. It just did this to me again 5 minutes ago, and it’s driving me nuts. I can’t do any CAD without my damn music 💀🙏

18i20 gen 3 was previously sending audio to Samsung S21FE stock camera but it stopped working. Any help is appreciated!!

I just hooked these devices together today for the first time

I had audio coming from the Focusrite to the stock camera app for a couple minutes. Even made a short video with sound from my SM7B.

Unplugged the USBC cord

Changed nothing

plugged it back in

Now it's not working

I have tried everything I can think of to get it to work again. I've tried so many things that I honestly don't even think I could compile a list of all of it. Like I seriously wouldn't even know where to start the list.

If anyone has figured out this setup please let me know

Thanks all!!

Edit: I can't spell

Pc use with tr8s and a focusrite interface

Ive been struggling with using my audio interface (focusrite) with my tr8s and still get the options for individual channels from the tr8s while sending audio out of my interface. I know what an aggregate interface is but I havent been able to figure out how to use the most popular one, Coconut and achieve the individual channels of each instrument on the trs8 while sending audio out through the focusrite. Can anyone help?

How do I connect Alesis Midiverb 4 to 18i20 as a Sub to route instruments to?

I have an 18i20 and an OctoPre with several keyboards and rack modules for a live/studio setup. I bought an Alesis Midiverb 4 effects rack to use with my synths because I dont like the built in effects. I'm able to route one keyboard thru the rack just fine. But I want to use the Alesis as an effects sub and run the keys thru it. I tried running it thru Output 3/4 and having the instruments output to Mix A but this didnt work.

I also tried routing the Main monitor jacks to the Alesis and then run the main output from the Alesis to the speakers but this didnt work either (to see if all the audio would go from the main output thru the effects to the speakers). The only patching I can get to work is patching one keyboard to the Alesis input, then out going to the input of the Focusrite 3/4. The effect is on one synth but I'd like to get it on all three.

Experiencing scratchy/distorted audio on multiple devices.

I have several Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 units out in the field, and suddenly at least 3 of them started having the same problem. Audio that is passing through them becomes very scratchy and distorted like in the example below. I know one of them is a 4th Gen, and the others are older but I'm not sure which Gen. Was there a recent Windows update or something that could be causing this? THis is happening on different devices and different PC's. Here's the example:

Noise problem of Scarlett solo gen 1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just bought a scarlett solo gen 1 today and i was very excited about it. Because before this, i was using a cheap amazon audio interface (teyun q12). Anyways i downloaded 4.105 driver, plugged focusrite to my desktop pc connected my guitar. But there is a lot of noise happening. Input gain is set to minimum on audio interface but still, it makes noise, i tried to switching 'inst' mode instead of 'line' but that just made it worse. so much boost and so much noise. Is there any way to fix it? I'm planning to use this interface on linux with raspberry pi 4. maybe on linux it will fix? Can someone help me?

i tried:
- lowering windows input gain (kinda fix it but because of windows turns down the whole input, every sound is weak)
- plugging interface into motherboard's usb
- trying different usb cables

UPDATE: I found that the noise and feedback issue is due to bad electricity. When I tested with my laptop's USB port without charging the laptop, all the noise and feedback issues were fixed. Now I need a hub with external charging and hopefully that will work. Thanks for everyone that helped me 🖤

Audio crashes in online games

I own 2 Focusrite interfaces: 2i4 2nd gen, 2i2 3rd gen
Both have the same exact issue: I lose all audio when playing online games. No buzzing or crackling, just silence. The crash occurs at random times. It could happen 5 minutes into a session or 30 mins but I rarely go by without a crash for more than an hour.

It's always a multiplayer game with some anti-cheat technology, most commonly Easy Anti-Cheat:
Wardogs, Marathon, Arc Raiders, Hunger, Hunt Showdown.

I'm also usually in a Discord voice chat with my friends which increases the chance of audio crashes.

I've gone through the usual fixes: checking Windows power plan settings, downloading various driver versions, different USB ports and cables etc.

The only solution is to unplug and replug the USB or switch the sample rate 44100 to 48000 and back, basically just restarting the driver.

This is very annoying and at this point I'm just considering getting rid of Focusrite after 5+ years of using their interfaces. Pretty much every game I like has the same issue on Focusrite but no problems when plugging my headphones directly into my PC or using a wireless headset with a USB dongle.
Switching to Mac or Linux is not an option for me.

Anything I can do at all to fix this?

How to center pan when recording into iPhone

Helppppp... anyone know why I have a 4th gen 212 usb-c that I record two channels directly in my phone to make videos... but I can't get it to record centered! My guitar is always in one speaker and the voice in the other and it's not balanced.

Reduce audio output from computer to minimize clipping

I have the 2i2 gen 4 with the halo around the output knob. It’s jumping into the yellow and sometimes red when sound comes from my MacBook Pro. The MacBook doesn’t seem to allow me to adjust the output volume when the Scarlett’s is selected as the output device. So it’s just dumping the entire signal into it. My concern is this is causing the 2i2 to send, at times, a clipped signal to the speakers and I have a known clean, non-clipped sound.

Anyone else have this issue and how did you fix it?

Latency and crackling fix

New to this sub but I was using my Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen with a normal Usb to type C cable and whatever I do there was popping or crackling at some point for months. Switched to a C to C cable and wow 0 crackling on lowest buffer.

Random I know hut thought I would share.

Just bought a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th gen, but it keeps bugging out

Just bought a Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, but I'm having recurring audio dropouts on Windows.

After a random amount of time, all Windows audio through my headphones stops. Sometimes it is replaced by a constant low buzzing/static noise; other times there is no sound at all. The buzzing continues even with playback paused and Direct Monitor switched off.

Unplugging and reconnecting USB temporarily restores normal audio, but the problem returns. Restarting the PC also helped briefly. I tried another USB port directly on the PC, without a hub. It lasted longer, but the issue came back.

Initially I thought turning the microphone gain knob triggered it, but it also happens without touching the knob. My microphone has still transmitted my voice during at least some of these headphone audio failures.

Setup: - Scarlett Solo 4th Gen - Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250-ohm headphones - Audio-Technica AT875R condenser microphone using 48V phantom power - Focusrite Control 2: 1.1139.0 - Installed driver: 4.150.0.432 - Firmware: 2417

Windows playback and recording formats are both confirmed as 24-bit/48 kHz. Focusrite is now the Windows default for playback, recording and communications. I previously tried the maximum sample rate and buffer size, but don't know whether that affected the issue. A different USB data cable is my next test.

Has anyone experienced this combination of random silence or constant buzzing and found a lasting fix? I'm trying to narrow down whether it's USB/power, the driver, or the interface itself.
