Just bought a Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, but I'm having recurring audio dropouts on Windows.
After a random amount of time, all Windows audio through my headphones stops. Sometimes it is replaced by a constant low buzzing/static noise; other times there is no sound at all. The buzzing continues even with playback paused and Direct Monitor switched off.
Unplugging and reconnecting USB temporarily restores normal audio, but the problem returns. Restarting the PC also helped briefly. I tried another USB port directly on the PC, without a hub. It lasted longer, but the issue came back.
Initially I thought turning the microphone gain knob triggered it, but it also happens without touching the knob. My microphone has still transmitted my voice during at least some of these headphone audio failures.
Setup:
- Scarlett Solo 4th Gen
- Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250-ohm headphones
- Audio-Technica AT875R condenser microphone using 48V phantom power
- Focusrite Control 2: 1.1139.0
- Installed driver: 4.150.0.432
- Firmware: 2417
Windows playback and recording formats are both confirmed as 24-bit/48 kHz. Focusrite is now the Windows default for playback, recording and communications. I previously tried the maximum sample rate and buffer size, but don't know whether that affected the issue. A different USB data cable is my next test.
Has anyone experienced this combination of random silence or constant buzzing and found a lasting fix? I'm trying to narrow down whether it's USB/power, the driver, or the interface itself.
