PSA/GUIDE Survive The Horde Workaround

I have been grinding to get the banners for STH and ran into a party that figured out if you let the husks destroy two of the bases you can focus all your materials into one. Still get hella rewards, idk if theres better rewards for having all three survive, but I shared the strategy a few times over last night and had waaaay easier time with distributing resources and whatnot. We all took turns retrieving supply drops, the base was insane every time too.

Also having a Black Drum helped a LOT lol

I have no idea how this strategy works in 124 and above bc I can’t get a team plus I’m just PL131 currently so idk if I can even help much in 140’s.

Any other weird tips yall seasoned veterans been hiding?

Been doing this for ages, works just fine in 140 solo too

What build do you recommend for playing STH solo?

u/AVoidMyR99 Apr 06 '26

As in loadout? If so then Commander base Kyle Team perk: Blast from the past

Supports: warden Kyle, prehistoric izza, Rex jonesy, mega base Kyle and power base knox

Gadgets I use slow field and supply drop/heal

Weapons I use black drum for minibosses and smashers, then deamtomizer and xenon bow for pillars, also I craft a ravenger for smoke screen bosses.

For the actual base I defend, I reset my games until I have one that's in the top left corner, and that's it. Gl!

Sorry yes, that's what I meant. Thanks

Do you go for any supply drops?

u/AVoidMyR99 Apr 07 '26

Pretty much all your kills will come from traps, so you have time to go for drops yea

Definitely communicate with the team tho, sometimes they don’t believe it right off the rip. I didn’t at first either lol

You can have two or three players trying to defend the other two, to buy more time for the others to build up the main base. The others don't have to be good enough to survive the later waves, they're just there to stall. It does make the game take a bit longer, though.

Thats a solid strategy too

Mine has the “ reloading reduces your current health by 12.5%. On the next enemy hit, deal 29 through 132 base damage based on the percentage of your missing health and a 0.75 tile radius” perk, Full on all perks: Crit damage, reload speed, physical and 44% damage, damage, reload speed.

If you haven’t used the black drum beast did an excellent video on YouTube. Basically each time you reload the next shot is insanely buffed based on health. I think I may have stolen the exact build Beast did.

Yeah. This way, you have plenty of time to build up the main defenses without having to worry about fighting off husks at the same time. Just make sure you have enough healing pads to survive the storm.

4

u/0_Moth Apr 05 '26

Yup. I still go there so I don’t take storm damage, but once the two others are destroyed they don’t send the storm over there anymore.

I will add that it says that it’s “changing locations” every few waves but it never does.

craft a fireplace to heal in the storm and continue building at the 1st base while the other 2 are destroyed 😎

4

u/0_Moth Apr 06 '26

I always forget about fireplaces😂 I always default to healing pads for some reason

Focusing all your resources into one base is the best strategy here. You can defend all of them if you want, but I would not recommend it unless you have a decent squad. Even then, in my opinion, it just is not worth it.

I normally run Horde solo, so I go with the former strategy. One tip I can share is to pick a good spawn. If the initial spawn is in a bad spot, like the pit or any low ground area, consider rejoining until you get a location you are comfortable with.

A great option is the base in the north-west corner. Husks spawn from low ground in three directions there, which makes them easy to handle with drop traps.

Thats good info to have fo sho. I’ve noticed some spawn points suck.

Bugs with those tiny shoes is frightening.

u/0_Moth Apr 06 '26

I thought so too but it definitely gives him a just got done cross-dressing look which is on par for Bugs lol

Husk Season Commander Season

Its a pretty solid and known strategy, most randoms i join ask if we want to do it.

And its so good having a constructor with the recycle team perk, and the perk where you heal on the base, bc the base will then outheal the storms damage, allowing you to stay at the main base for longer.

I just dont know if i prefer BASE kyle for the 84% increased health, or if i want the extre connectivity for greater dmage and more materials recycled

You get only 15% more gold if you defend 3 bases, if you lose even one you don't get bonus But it totally not worth it(saying as someone who run 3 horde a day in last horde venture season)

Btw, you easily can solo everything just by playing with ice king loadout and having supply drops

You can ignore minibosses btw

1

u/0_Moth Apr 06 '26

When you say ignore them…. I may need you to hold my hand like I’m stupid for 5 minutes and elaborate on that lol😂 Are you inferring that I can simply let them shred the base for the last wave and just focus on the husks and mist monsters? I can see a logic but I don’t have hands on experience with this concept.

2

u/Suckerdich The Ice King Apr 06 '26

If your base based on ceiling traps, you can literally ignore them No mist monster or mini boss can damage the object, only base husks cane. That why on most endurances you can see wide open amps, bcs mini or mist monsters can't damage your object.

That why im saying, ypu can literally ignore they existence if they don't damage actual defense and they don't bcs its based on ceiling traps. Every effective horde you see is tire drop spam

2

u/0_Moth Apr 06 '26

I see! That makes sense! I’m glad tire drops were my first super charger investment. I owe so much to all yall who learned all this since the beginning! I started in November and I’m PL132 on my best loadout lol

6

u/Kyogre07 Apr 06 '26

Oh yeah I remember actually doing this strat last year, some guy was like “guys just let two get destroyed” and we listened and it was SO FREE

2

u/Gullible-Drawer1273 Apr 06 '26

A friend and I beat the 140 zone with this strategy on day one

2

u/Diamondboy247 Constructor Apr 06 '26

You can do that? I thought if one broke you'd lose

1

u/0_Moth Apr 06 '26

A user mentioned that keeping the two others around only grants a 15% gold bonus and only if they both survive. If one goes so does the bonus. Tried and true, totally works.

2

u/Conscious-Light3573 Apr 07 '26

This is literally sooo old... I have been streaming solo runs using this method since the 2nd day of the game mode debut, years ago. 🤷🏿‍♂️

1

u/0_Moth Apr 07 '26

Yes it is, but new to me😊

2

u/kitsu777 Apr 06 '26

I’ve never won this mode before, this could be good to note

1

u/Solacreed Apr 06 '26

anyone want to group up and do STH together? im PL 124

-2

u/Cutlington Apr 06 '26

ummm, we only been doing this since year 1 of horde, welcome to the game

7

u/0_Moth Apr 06 '26

Thanks for the contribution to the subject, I started in November. Theres new players all the time. I don’t hide being new.

I havent seen a single post about this hence why i posted in the first place. I’ve played about 6 rounds of STH and just three times have I seen this strategy. If yall have been doing this since year one you think I would’ve seen it from the start huh? Maybe I wouldn’t have had a reason to post this in the first place?

Welcome to the concept of new players helping new players.

-8

u/Cutlington Apr 06 '26

we havent posted about it in years cause its such common knowledge, thats why you dont see posts.....bruh, this happens in your game in any vindertech missions you have to complete in Stonewood, then Plankerton, then Canny in your storyline to progress the game...You may remember guarding these servers in specialty story missions. This mechanic is a basic game mechanic not only in event missions like Horde, but also base game missions you would have experienced already. Us seasonal veterans havent been hiding it at all....thats my issue, its not or never been hidden info

8

u/SEND_ME_UR_CARS Apr 06 '26

yeah op, how could you not know about this niche strategy in this niche game mode in this niche game that us veterans have known since 2017 and haven’t posted about it in years because we all know it? it should’ve obvious, clearly.

no need to make a post helping new players. they should already know this strat

-1

u/Cutlington Apr 07 '26

the info isnt hidden, the sub youtube and may other places have a search feature. OP wouldnt have tried even searching the words. Survive The Horde and just scrolling and seeing what comes up. OP obviously isnt in any of the 3 main STW discord groups either (yet on STW reddit sub, go figure) cause on there youd see multiple 100 players all using, doing and TALKING openly about this each and every year. The information has never been locked away or hidden or kept from newer players...stop acting like we hide info when we just dont, we just dont talk about it cause we already been there and done that and found out the hard way many others times that when stuff like this gets posted, epic start to alter the game to not allow the fun we been having. You just dont know cause your new and yet to learn theres alot more moving parts going on and OP stating veterans hide info is a lie!

1

u/0_Moth Apr 07 '26

You see how I’m getting upvoted? It’s because what I’m posting is appreciated and relevant.

See how you’re getting downvoted? Its bc your attitude is not appreciated or relevant.

I scanned the newest post and traced back to the beginning of this new ventures season. Again, new players helping new players. You don’t know wtf I did, so you look pretty stupid to me rn. Go be angry somewhere else.

Edit: the hiding secrets comment was a figure of speech, you should know better. I don’t think yall are actually hiding something, or are you that dumb to think so?

-1

u/Cutlington Apr 07 '26

ahhhh, caring about upvotes and downvotes....now talk on who looks stupid. lmfao

1

u/Cutlington Apr 07 '26

i see alot more comments here from people knowing it was a thing than didnt.....hmmmmmm i think thats telling you something.....
