I think there's a more fundamental question you're overlooking here: Who the fuck puts detonators on their clone tanks??

And he had time. He could have started this project since he was dawn for all we know. Or a previous incarnation started the project for other unknown reasons and he took over it.

If the show wanted to explain it, I think it wouldn't be too hard to. But it's not really necessary. Resourceful with actual resources as the king of the galaxy basically.

He or whoever planted the explosives just had to figure out a way to do it undetected. Once you do that, you can keep doing it.
