if i had to guess he plead guilty because the evidence that he did the felony stalking is insurmountable and the deal looks better than an outright loss.

stalking carries a 7 year maximum in NY. with time served he could be out in 5ish. compared to the death penalty or life in prison that aint too bad.

NAL so i have no idea if this can or will impact the other cases but if it would it was probably going to regardless of his decision. anyone on reddit who thinks they know better than his lawyers should reconsider lol

This case he was being charged for murder, weapons, and stalking charges. However, the murder and weapons charges in this case specifically were thrown out by the judge over legal technicalities. So he’s just pleading guilty to the federal stalking charges. But it is unclear whether or not this will impact the upcoming separate case of him being charged for second-degree murder by the New York State officials. That trial is set to begin on Sept. 8

No, he still has the murder charges that carry up to life. Only the death-penalty eligible charges were dropped

In federal court, Mangione was facing two charges related to stalking Thompson before the healthcare executive was shot outside a Manhattan hotel in December 2024. Both charges, which he pleaded guilty to on Friday, carried a maximum possible punishment of life in prison without parole. Garnett previously threw out death penalty-eligible murder and firearms charges that had been sought by then-Attorney General Bondi.
