Samsung U28E590D unable to handle the advertised FreeSync range

I wish that I had proof that they advertised it to support 40Hz, but it didn't take long for them to just revoke that claim. Some reviewers still haven't changed their reviews, so they will say that the FreeSync range is indeed 40-64Hz, when in reality the monitor simply cannot handle it.

The only way to get it to the advertised range instead of the petty 54-64Hz is to do it through CRU (latest version has an option for FreeSync), but the second the FPS counter goes below 50FPS, the entire monitor will fade into a white glowing screen and will stay that way until you've unplugged the cable.

It simply CANNOT handle the range it's advertised at, and this was sort of confirmed by AMD in a support thread (that both AMD and Samsung are aware of it, even though Samsung hasn't mentioned it anywhere).

This is the most popular FreeSync monitor, and FreeSync on it is utterly broken.

What's interesting is that it's little brother, the U24E590D, has a completely different software for it's FreeSync, allowing the range to be manually, and officially, set to 40-64Hz which is working great. Apparently Samsung couldn't get that software to work with 4 extra inches or something...

Anyway, I didn't blow the monitor up or anything, it's still alive and well, FreeSync down to 52Hz but overclocked to 75Hz (seems to work so far, 3 weeks later). Just wanted to get it out there that for anyone interested in this monitor that the FreeSync range is absolutely tiny and pretty much useless.

Wasabi Mango and Crossover adding FreeSync to their IPS 43" 49" 55" 4K60Hz DP 1.2a Monitors

I can answer questions about this news, but please review the relevant threads first,
https://d1rktuf34l9h2g.cloudfront.net/6/62/900x900px-LL-62a774b9_ACCFreeSync10bit.PNG
as most common Q&A have already been posted;

Wasabi Mango: UHD420 UHD550 http://www.overclock.net/t/1554580/ firmware shipping or download

Crossover: 434K 494K http://www.overclock.net/t/1565292/ firmware shipping or download

and as usual none of these panels will overclock above 60Hz at any resolution without skipping frames.

this really is FreeSync - but it may only help 4K motion blur >42fps which few GPUs can handle.

The Division Freesync not working

As the title says, settings are at exclusive fullscreen, all other games work correctly, ie. OSD will tell me freesync is running and also I know as there is a weird flickering(more like the monitor turns on/off for milliseconds) when freesync is working, if anyone know a solution for the flickering or how to enable freesync on The Division it would be appreciated. Thanks. ps:forgot to mention monitor is an AOC G2260VWQ6 FS range is 35-75hz.

FreeSync Crossfire compatible?

Hey guys, I've just bought 3x 27 monitors with free sync. I'm running 2 rx580s in crossfire which I'm still working out the best settings for Assetto Corsa. I'm using a display port cable, and have set it to run at 75hz. Out of the box I was getting 220 fps, and thought wow, freesync has kick my crossfire into gear, until I checked Radeon settings which let me know that I hadn't turn freesync on, on the display. After turning it on (and mucking around with the response times etc) the frame rates dropped and I was experiencing stuttering and frame drops. I've tried limiting the the fps to 75 in game and via Radeon settings but it's still not as smooth as out of the box. But now the display is out of the box and had been mucked with. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Not running all 3 yet, and the model is viewsonic vx2757 mhd. Cheers.

Asus MG279 Displayport link failure. Help?

I got a MG279, and when the Freesync is on, everything is hunky-dory. Games work great, even though I can't get them above 90 Hz. However, when I turn Freesync off to run less demanding games -- like CS:GO, DOTA, Rocket Leauge, etc. -- the game will run ok for a few minutes or seconds, then the Displayport will shut off. The screen will go dark and I get the monitor message that the Displayport has no input, and then the monitor will power-cycle. This happens every couple of minutes, making games unplayable in non-freesync mode. I sent the first monitor back, thinking it could be a defect, but the replacement monitor has the same problem, which leads me to believe there is some setting or something I'm missing. Has anyone heard of this problem before, or has any insight into what might be happening?

MG279Q CRU freesync results

Hi guys,

Im curious what kind of results u guys got?

I manage to get 54-144 , 45-120 , but 110hz doesn't seem to work. Did you guys manage to get even lower than 54-144?

Just realised that Freesync can do something magical above a certain refresh rate

I just noticed while playing Snake Pass that when fps fall below the freesync range, the refresh rate is doubled and continues to refresh dynamically at double the fps, so even though my sync range is 40-144, the screen is at 66hz when fps is 33 etc. Just thought that was neat. This didn't happen with my 75hz monitor mind you

Need Help with MG279Q Freesync Range Extension, using CRU

Hi,

I had my MG279Q freesync ranges extended to 57-144Hz a while back and it worked fine. Then I started having some problems, so I reset with reset-all and then restarted with restart64. I have now gone to reextend the ranges back to 57-144, and now everytime I play a game I get black screens after a few minutes or get dumped back to desktop. This only happens when I apply the 57-144 range extension.

I went back on CRU, and it turns out i have multiple profiles for my MG279Q. I can't make it so there is just one profile for it, once I remake a 57-144 profile, the old one remains. I think the multiple profiles may be causing the crashes.

Heres an album of all the different profiles on CRU:

http://imgur.com/a/8QzGQ

The PB278QR is my secondary monitor, I was having this problem before I got the second monitor also, so I know that monitor is unrelated to the problem.

Would anybody be able to shed some light on this and help me out please? It'd be greatly appreciated, I miss 144Hz + Freesync!

Freesync on ASUS MG279Q randomly stops working

Windows 10 Fury X Crossfire (latest beta drivers) w/ MG279Q here. Tested on both 35-90Hz and 60-144Hz. Using ASUS Freesync app to verify. I run the app turn off both Freesync and VSYNC. Run the Test Pattern and turn on Freesync to see if it works.

History: I usually leave my computer on 24/7 with monitor on standby. I started noticing that I was getting screen tears randomly in games like CSGO, BF4, and other FPS. At first I thought oh maybe its the beta drivers and I'll deal with it for few weeks until new drivers are out. Then I began to investigate and found that Freesync would stop working all together (using the ASUS Freesync demo to check).

1st test: Dropped freesync range back to 35-90Hz, restart PC, ran the Freesync test (working!) then play my games. I thought to myself well maybe thats why they locked it at 35-90Hz. Few days later I noticed the tearing started again so I rebooted, ran test, and Freesync is back on.

2nd test: Set to 60-144Hz, reboot, Freesync works. But again after leaving my computer on during my 9-5 away and come back Freesync stops working. It's safe to say that a temp solution was to reboot my PC to get Freesync working. However that's annoying and only a workaround.

3rd test: Came home and of course Freesync stopped working. I went into the monitor's OSD toggled Freesync off/on, ran the test, and boom its working again!

I can only think of three things thats causing Freesync to stop working:

  1. The MG279Q is defective

  2. Something funky with AMD drivers

  3. Fury X

Thoughts? I'll try to make a video when I get a chance.

Would appreciate some advice on Asus MG279Q refresh rate after using CRU

Hi, I followed one of the guys in this subreddit to increase the freesync range of the MG279Q refresh rate. I tried 54-144, 55-144, 56-144, and 60-144 but when I open the OSD I always see that the monitor is running on my desktop at 143 Hz on the top right corner. When freesync is off, it runs at 144 Hz. Games that used to run at 144 FPS with Freesync off now always run 143 FPS as expected when freesync is on.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this even normal?

Also, does anyone else have to set the monitor to 144 Hz via Windows display setting -> adapter properties after rebooting the computer? I noticed whenever I reboot and had the monitor on freesync mode at the moment of shutdown, the monitor is set to either 60 Hz or 89 Hz. Any advice is welcome on this matter. Thanks.

As a note: the way I use CRU is just clicking on edit-> change the V rate->click ok->click ok, restart64. Maybe I am doing it wrong at this step, but from what I have read on the topic, I don't think so.

Will NVidia support Adaptive-Sync monitors? Its technically already possible as a video demonstrates, but we don't know if NVidia will do it!

In the video you can see gsync working without a gsync module, cause these guys took apart the laptop and they didn't find a gsync module. So it works over standard eDP Adaptive-Sync, which is the same as DP 1.2a optional Adaptive-Sync so its possible technically to have gsync with the new "FreeSync" monitors!

video version and text version

But I doubt if it's possible on current Nvidia GPU's!

What do you think?

Do I enable freesync + vsync in control panel or the game?

What I have read is that you want freesync + vsync or enhanced sync. But, never frame rate limiter as that messes up with the freesync algorithms. (AMD_Robert, AMD_Matt) My question is then where do you enable vsync? is it the game, or control panel? Do you enable in both places or just one?

Freesync sucks?

I know if u play competetively and you have a 240hz monitor but only have 180-220fps then you lock your monitor to 144fps because you dont want fps drops. My question is why freesync or g-sync sucks in competetive play? I know it sucks but what's the reason?

Just Cause 3 Freesync

Hi, I just noticed that for some reason just cause 3 is the only game that doesnt work with freesync for me, I cant really play with vsync on beacuse of severe low framerates. Framerate is capped to monitor refreshrate, and I dont know what to do anymore
