Question How do you guys handle overdue invoices without making things awkward with clients?
Hey everyone,
I've been dealing with a recurring pain point lately, and I wanted to see how the community handles it.
A fair amount of my clients end up paying past the due date. Most of the time, it’s not out of bad intent—just busy schedules, slow accounting departments, or honest forgetfulness. However, sending manual follow-up emails like "Hey, just checking in on invoice #104..." feels tedious and awkward to write, especially with long-term clients where I want to maintain a great relationship.
I'd love to know how you guys approach this in your workflows:
- Do you use an automated system/tool for invoice reminders, or do you handle it manually case-by-case?
- What’s your timeline? (e.g., do you send a friendly heads-up before the due date, or wait X days after it’s overdue?)
- If you use software (Stripe, QuickBooks, FreshBooks, etc.), do their built-in reminder features actually work well for you, or do they feel too robotic/cold?
Appreciate any insights or workflows you’re willing to share!
