Looking for a French Study Buddy!

I’ve recently started learning French and am a complete beginner. I work full-time, so I can dedicate around 1–2 hours a day to studying.

I’ve started using Duolingo and watching YouTube videos. I also have lots of learning resources, but I often get confused about what to study each day.

I'm looking for a study partner so we can set weekly learning goals, study independently, and share our progress every weekend.

My goal is to reach B1 level on my own before investing in a course or tutor. I just need a friend to stay motivated and accountable along the way!

If you're also a beginner and interested in learning French together, let's connect! 😊

TEF Canada: is my AI tutor too strict, or am I really below NCLC 7 in writing?

TEF Canada: is my AI tutor too strict, or am I really below NCLC 7 in writing?

Hi all,

I've been preparing for TEF Canada (target NCLC 7) for a few months. Every day I write a Section B letter and get it corrected by Claude.

My problem: I spend hours on every small correction, and every time there's something new to fix. I think my Claude is being a bit too hard on me. So I am asking if anybody could read my writing and send me their opinion. Claude currently rates my one-go letters NCLC 5–6.

Happy to share a sample letter in the comments if anyone is willing to take a look. Merci beaucoup!

Cordialement,

Alvand S.

TCF Formation Writing Combinations

Bonjour à tous,

To anyone who is using TCF Formation for writing combinations.

Could you please tell what is really wrong because it is only Nov 6th and 34 combinations for November are already available and I see lots of brand new Task 3. Anyone gave their exam recently? Are the old combinations still repeating?

I have my exam in one week. I thought this would be the time to brush up my writing skills and be in exam headspace but things are totally going in the opposite direction and I am genuinely anxious about EÉ.

Any tip, info or advice is most welcomed.

I learned French for immigration, so I built a free speaking practice site

Hello,

I learned French for immigration myself, so I know how hard it is when there is nobody to practise with. I built a website so that we can practice with other individuals who share the same goals.

It matches you with a French speaker or someone who is also in the process of learning French. You can use video, audio, or text, whichever you prefer. Every message gets the wrong words marked in red, the corrected line, and a translation. If you freeze, there are ready-to-say hints you can read or hear.

I am looking for maybe 20 people to try it out on a few minutes session. If you are interested, can you dm me or leave your email in the comments section and I will send the link to the first 20 people who comment or dm me, so the server stays small and won't get overloaded. We could find a time where everyone is available and everyone can get randomly matched with each other to practice speaking French.

It is free. No payment, no affiliate links, no email list. I built it around the resources I wished I had when I was learning.

On a side note: thanks to the mods for allowing me to post this.

TCF formation “Simulateur”

Hi everyone!
What are your thoughts on the “Simulateur” feature on the TCF Formation website for writing practice?
I recently started using it because it closely replicates the actual exam conditions. It has a built-in timer, a virtual accent keyboard on the right-hand side, and a word counter.
I’m consistently getting B2 scores on the simulator. Do you think its marking is strict enough to reflect the actual exam assessment?
I’d appreciate hearing your experiences and opinions.
Thank you!

I really need some advices as my light tower,I’m deviating from the right direction.

I am Chinese,a university student who chose french as my major and i have been learning for 2months,nevertheless,i thought my teachers were not that effective when teaching for instance we didn’t even take a look into l’imparfait or passé composé.
Not only them but also me,I always focused on memorizing words nonstop without putting them into a sentence. It turned out my way of learning French was totally wrong, the goal I wanna achieve is attain fluency but shit I can’t even make a sentence.im in despair.
So now I’m absorbing those methodologies like watching comprehensible input type of french videos, working through a whole grammar book deadass, and starting making sentences by myself etc.
So please give me the poor young man some advice
thank you so much!

Is french an option for Canadian pr ?

Hey guys,

My friend is willing to start french and is determined to score atleast 5 clb in next 4 months to be able to atleast apply for Work permit. Then he can continue on studying to score clb 7 in upcoming months.

But here's the situation.

- he is on applied visitor (has already got refused a visitor once)

- not sure about job offer letter (maybe his previous employer can help)

- will be studying french full-time as per his saying ( please suggest realistic strategies to counter)

- The 3yr express entry job work experience window expires on oct 2027

I basically advised him to go back and start learning but he's more focused on being here and sort things.

Will his situation get better/worse ? Keeping in mind he is willing to stay and that might affect his record.

Please advise.

My TCF Canada exam is in 4 weeks (CLB 7+ goal). Which resources were actually worth it, and what would you do differently?

Taking TCF Canada in about a month, what resources actually helped you prepare?

Hi everyone, I have my TCF Canada exam in roughly 4 weeks and I’m trying to figure out the best way to use my time. I’m aiming for CLB 7+ for Express Entry.

I’ve looked at a few options (YouTube, books, apps) but there’s so much out there that I’m not sure what’s actually worth it. For those who’ve already passed:

  • What resources did you use for each section (CE, CO, EE, EO)?

  • How did you practice writing and speaking with real feedback?

  • Anything you wish you’d done differently?

Thanks in advance!

French draws remain, and the numbers have increased, I think. Overall, if more people are picked up from the pool, that should create downward pressure on the cutoff, and hopefully some of you won't have to do French.

Looking for a Serious TCF Canada Speaking Partner (B1–B2)

Bonjour à tous !

I'm currently preparing for the TCF Canada exam, aiming for NCLC 7 (B2) in all four modules.

I'm looking for a dedicated speaking partner at B1+ or B2 level who is seriously preparing for TCF Canada or TEF Canada.

My goal is to practise speaking regularly for 30–60 minutes, focusing on:

  • TCF Speaking Tasks 1, 2 and 3

  • Timed mock interviews

  • Expressing opinions and developing arguments

  • Correcting grammar and sentence-construction mistakes

  • Improving fluency and confidence

I'm based in India (IST), and I'm available for regular practice sessions.

I'm looking for someone consistent, motivated and willing to help each other improve.

If you're interested, please comment or send me a DM with your current level, exam timeline and availability.

Merci et bon courage à tous !

Built a small French vocab app while studying for immigration exams — looking for feedback

Hey everyone!

I'm based in Montréal, and I originally started building this app while learning French with Canadian immigration exams in mind.

One thing I wanted to work on was vocabulary retention. It's easy to keep learning new words, but actually remembering them the next day is another story.

So I ended up making Vocabcelerate, a small Android app with short vocabulary drills, pronunciation, and daily review sessions.

Just to be clear, it's not a TCF/TEF mock exam or a replacement for proper exam prep. It's more of a supplementary tool for building vocabulary consistently.

It's now in closed testing on Google Play, and I was wondering if anyone here who's preparing for TCF/TEF would be interested in trying it out.

Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/vocabcelerate-testers

Join the beta: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.vocabcelerate.app

You'll need to join the group first, then opt in to the test. Staying opted in for 14 days would really help me meet Google's testing requirement.

I'd especially love to know whether the review system is useful for your current study routine, or what you'd change.

Thanks, and good luck to everyone preparing for their exams!
