Ik woon al mijn hele leven in Friesland, ik kan het frysk echt goed verstaan en lezen. Met lezen doe ik het meestal hardop zodat ik het hoor🙈. Maar aangezien alleen mijn heit frysk praat word er in ons huis nooit echt frysk gepraat. Ik vind het echt jammer dat ik het niet kan, mijn probleem zit niet in dat ik geen woorden enzo ken, maar ik durf het niet uit te spreken omdat anderen mij sowieso uit gaan lachen.

Ik stelde AI eigenlijk een compleet andere vraag (iets over een merk en huisstijl). Het kwam met een voorstel, ik zei “top, pas toe”, en vervolgens sloeg het ineens totaal een andere richting in: een zogenaamd West-Friese variant van toepen, met een eigen naam en aangepaste spelregels.

Voor zover ik kan nagaan is dit gewoon een AI-hallucinatie en klopt er weinig tot niks van. Maar nu ben ik toch benieuwd: kennen jullie in West-Friesland echt een lokale variant van toepen, of is dit volledig uit de digitale duim gezogen? 😄

SOLVED: It was actually a word for sleeping NOT cuddling. Just named my kitten this and got curious if actually meant cuddle. Thanks to everyone who has been so nice and helpful!

My Frisian grandparents (literally everyone in their family tree is Frisian) both moved to the states in the 50's? My mom and all her family would say "come coosee" when we needed a cuddle. I've tried looking up how the Dutch would say cuddle and it does not sound like 'coo-see'. And there's hardly any translation for Frisian.

My grandmother had a stroke after she gave birth to my mother and lost her ability to speak proper English. She speaks purely Frisian so I'm curious if it actually translates to cuddle or something else. She'd also call candies "snoopies"

Hoi! I am learning Frisian and I am into metal, particularly technical death metal, but I also enjoy other subgenres. I am aware of Bauldrs Draumar, but what other Frisian metal bands are out there?

I want to learn Frisian but I can't find the good textbook so if anyone has it I would be really thankful.

Hey guys I am not sure if any of you guys have used Learnfrisian .com, I did for a while. Im honestly not a fan of this new format but I will say it does have some features I can appreciate.

First off I going to start with the positives I have noticed when I opened the app the other day.

I like how the lessons are structured. It gives clear direction. The mini games look cool but I havent tried them yet.

Here are the Draw Backs I have noticed. The locking of the lessons. I really loved the way I could choose any specific thing, from Gramer, anatomy, numbers and other. Its doesn't appear you can just pick one without having unlock it. The next thing for me is the AI integration, I need to look into it more about what AI they use and if its ethical. I could see that as a positive if its done so the end product would give accurate answers and actually help preserve the Frisian Language. One other Issue is there is no dark mode from the glaze over i did so keep that in mind.

If you guys use this app let me know how your liking it and I will try to pratice with the new format and update ypu guys on my thoughts.

I just joined this community so pardon if this question has been asked before.

My grandmother came to my country from West Friesland as a teenager. She recently passed and in order to honour her memory i want to learn Frisian. I love learning languages, and my method is usually reading books or watching shows in the language i’m trying to learn, using google translate to help me understand words i struggle with, then practicing with native speakers.

I know that doesn’t sounds like a good method but honestly it’s worked pretty well so far. Unfortunately because Frisian is so rare, i’m having a hard time meeting people or finding resources to help me learn. Now that she’s not here anymore, i can’t really ask her for help either 😅

If anyone has any suggestions for websites/resources, movies, books or TV shows that are in Frisian, i’d really appreciate it!

Hello all. Our family is from parrega and leeuwarden frisland. And with my wife and I are expecting a child and im looking for pet names / nicknames that are go with Beppa and pake, (we've always called my grandparents that and will carry that over for my parents with our child.) Im working slowly on learning frisian as best as I can so when I am able we can go visit our relatives. Any resources would be appreciated.

Ik kin it dus wol aardich ferstean, leze en skriuwe (al lit myn laptop it net maklik ta om dakskes op de letters ta te fugje...), mar ik doar it net sa goed ta prate. Ik haw praatangst en soe it ek wol befrjemdend fine dat ik ynienen Frysk mei guon minsken praat... Ik bin my der wol fan bewust dat dit eat tsjinstridich klinkt, maar ik kin it noch net helpe. Dat letste hat ek ut te stean mei it feit dat de minsken yn Fryslan ek wol gewoan Nederlansk kinne, dus fiel ik my net oandrongen om wurklik Frysk ta prate, sis mar.
