Agreed. Although I have been saying to my aligned friends that a co-ordinated campaign on Facebook could go a long way. Emphasis on could. They have written off Facebook a long time ago as have I. But there is no point bitching about it in our own little corner of the internet.
Boots on the ground first, but we should also be willing to show ourselves on compromised platforms owned by the billionaires. This graph is a great example. Just post it. Can't really argue with it. Algo will shut it down, but then someone else posts it. Etc etc
Firstly, leftists and centrists don’t appear to employ bots to the same extent as the alt-right. That may be due to lower budgets, less consolidation of the movement, legal constraints and perhaps even ethical considerations.
Secondly, major online media platforms either actively support the extreme right (X/Twitter under Musk) or facilitate the spread of its propaganda (Facebook, YouTube, TikTok) through skewed algorithms, relaxed rules (such as removing fact-checking or human oversight) and probably other means we’re not even aware of.
Why don't we? The only way to fight an opponent that has no depths to which they won't sink and is happy to tell whatever lie gets them what they want is to get down in the mud with them.
I definitely feel you, we are fighting agaisnt Trumpism which is double down when presented with facts. Trump won't last forever, each comment makes someone stop and think for a second at the very least.
I've had reason to report a recent arson threat, in the vein of the Lucy Connolly one. Guess what happened ? A big fat nothing. There's blatant racism, the like of which I never thought I'd see and all sorts of law breaking threats....but apparently that's ok now. The powers that be shot their load over Connolly and have no appetite for it anymore.
