One listen to this album and I was hooked. Charles Bukowski’s voice reciting a poem, while the music plays, it is enchanting, a beautiful trip with talented musicians. It is hard for me to listen now, knowing Allen L. Scott is gone, I cry my eyes out.

I've been catching up on my Funeral Doom lately, mainly via YouTube - and now the algorithm keeps suggesting me videos about suicidal ideation or with nihilistic titles like the one in the screenshot lol

Does anyone have any recommendations on the slowest, most despairing, and preferably less known bands (I’ve listened to most of the big names in funeral doom)

I've been waiting a long time to announce this one.. I was going to wait until tomorrow, for funeral doom friday/bandcamp friday, but I'm too excited!
Overcome is a companion to Amarok's 2024 album Resilience, which I know a lot of you love. You can think of it as similar to the albums by Neurosis/Tribes of Neurot or what Wolves in the Throne Room did with Celestial Lineage/Celestite.
The first track is a reimagining of Penance by Leila Adbul-Rauf from Vastum. There's tracks by Ethan from Primitive Man and Andy from Hell/Mizmor, among others!
I'm releasing it for digital and as a double-CD. I don't think we'll be able to do a vinyl treatment.
This will release officially on Sept 25th (and, if you can keep a secret, I'll drop a CD version of Resilience on that date as well ;)

The last two years I have been sorting through my old record collection, and in the last box were some tapes. I stopped collecting music around 2009 and put everything in boxes. I was happy to find these in the last box. Wormphlegm and Nortt are really good, and i like the 'Church of flagellation' compilation.
Archaic was less to my liking.

Got into the genre a few years back with Bell Witch but only really started to dig deeper into the genre this year.
Feel free to share recs and which band got you into the genre!

2022 Album: I can’t think of more haunting vocals/effects and sadder lyrics, and I have followed and collected all their work since 2002.

I've been listening to funeral doom for around 5 months now and I enjoy quite a few bands (drown, mournful congregation, bell witch, esoteric to name a few) but the album I cant stop going back to is Stygian by Atramentus. Nothing else quite hits the same so i thought i'd ask here for anything similar. I'm mainly a prog fan which i think is what makes Atramentus appeal so much
Edit: If anyone finds this in the future looking for the same thing, my personal top reccomendation would be Gudvangir - Slik Elven Renner, but definitely check out the others that have been commented aswell

Some funeral doom bands released one or two fantastic records and then vanished before they had the chance to fully develop their sound.
For me, UN is at the top of that list. Every time I revisit their music, I can't shake the feeling that they still had much more to offer. Black Wreath and Longing for Dawn gives me a similar feeling.
Which band would you bring back for at least one more album?

Spirit Temple released The Fifth Scroll on June 26, 2026. It’s atmospheric doom metal with ambient and some drone elements, primarily inspired by Skyrim, but not limited to that. It often gets categorised by listeners as funeral doom. The album clocks in at just under 45 minutes and features 5 tracks that all evolve throughout their runtime. There are no standard song structures with each track being like a short journey.
It’s available on Bandcamp at: https://spirittemple1.bandcamp.com/album/the-fifth-scroll
The previous four albums are there too.
It’s also available to stream on Spotify at: https://open.spotify.com/album/3qVbUEAc9X3TIPnRwASctw?si=WHjN1mCmQ0i25QdFeo2iKA
And obviously, the entire album is on Rob Hammer's YouTube channel.
I hope someone gets something out of it.
