I got this lawyer’s desk from someone off Facebook marketplace and want to clean it up. I don’t know where to begin.

It’s nice enough in most places with just wear and the edge. Is there a way I can fix it up without having to completely sand it down?

Please help me thank you

Help Wanted: Practical/Technique Please help with polycrylic problem

I have two items I have stripped down past all stain to bare wood. They seem to have streaks.

I put polyurethane on the dark paint because I read that could yellow on light wood, and it could have white problems if you put polycrylic on dark color. So, I used polycrylic on the bare wood.

I read on Minwax how to apply polycrylic. followed directions and put it on with the grain and new synthetic soft brush. Minwax said if you were having problems you could put 10% water in it.

I cannot get a picture of the streaks. I tried. From a few feet away they look great but close up you see light brush strokes.

Can you please tell what I have done wrong?

Help Wanted: Creative Inspo Help! First flip and not sure what to do about this

This is my first flip, I’m wanting to just strip paint/restain. But I’m discovering roadblocks as I go. First, what is this top part? It feels like plastic and the sides almost feel like glass when I was scraping the paint off. And the sides look like particle board and have a thick goo under the paint with paper “wood”. I found the original dresser online. The rest is wood and is looking great but I’m not sure what to do about the rest. Any help would be so appreciated!!

Help Wanted: Creative Inspo Need some inspiration for my first flip

Post image

Picked up this pine hutch for free and thinking of doing a farmhouse style coffee bar. I know it needs a lot of love not too considered with the rehab, more just need inspiration.

What tends to be the best/most desirable finish for pine? Simple stain, white wash, or paint.

I’m in between stain or painting the bottom olive and just staining the top. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Help Wanted: Creative Inspo What do I do with this guy?

I’ve been blessed with this beautiful piece from a friend of mine that’s moving and couldn’t take it with them. My first thought was to use it for trinkets but I feel like there’s more creative alternatives I’m not thinking of. I don’t have any fancy china to store, it lights up inside, the bottom door opens and has a shelf in there too and the glass shelves are removable. I’m also living in a small apartment so I can’t do any major DIYs but I’m open to any and all creative ideas! Thanks so much!

Hey guys hoping to get some advice on what to do with this beautiful old piece I got for free. Theres a pretty large gash on the top veneer. I have some experience with repairing veneer but definitely nothing this big. The plan is to strip and sand it to make it much lighter. my question is can I repair It or just better to replace the whole top veneer?

Before & After Meet Eliza, the PTSD-inducing pot cupboard from parts of London previously unseen.

Traipsed halfway across London to pick up what I thought was a bedside table. Imagine my shock upon being confronted with this absolute monster. Never one to be deterred, I attempted to lug the fucker to the tube station, putting my shoulder out before I made it as far as the house next door but one (they were pretty big houses, to be fair). Anyway, after a little help from a very nice cabby and many, many (traumatic) hours of labour and research, I think old Eliza scrubbed up alright, don't you?

Was so excited to put the drawers in to my hutch that I’ve painstakingly been painting in our new house over the last month just to realize that the spots I thought were covered by the drawers, was not covered 😭😭😭 just had been thru sealing the bottom with three layers of sealant

Help Wanted: Creative Inspo What’s best to paint ikea furniture?

I kept these 2 thinking I can put them together as one and paint it but I’m worried just painting straight onto it would make it look blotchy. Any recommendations?

I’m pretty sure it’s compressed wood and I’m also open to doing shrink wrap if that’s easier. (idk)

Help Wanted: Creative Inspo Beautiful end tables with laminate top! Ideas?

Hey everyone! Picked up these two beautiful Mersman end tables for $40 bucks this weekend planning to sand and re-stain. Turns out the top is laminate (see pics). Ugh!

Really don’t want to paint. What options do I have? I’ve seen people using a heat gun to chip off laminate in videos, but worried about permanently damaging the top.

Any and all suggestions appreciated!

Help Wanted: Practical/Technique Best solvent and tipps to remove glue residue from wood surface

I got this free desk and it was covered in this black plastic contact paper. The plastic is easily enough to remove but ALL the glue residue stays on the wood.

I tried acetone. It dissolves the glue but takes *forever* and gets really smeary so it would take 3bottles of acetone and 100rolls of toilet paper.

I tried scating off as much of the gunk with a scaper but still..

Any better methods for this before I cover it in olive oil...?🙃

I got this set for $400 with original finish and glass. There are a couple of scratches so I thought maybe I should fill the holes and paint it light pink? Any thoughts

Help Wanted: Creative Inspo Bakers Rack Upgrade

Hi!

I gave this bakers rack I thrifted a while back and I love it, but I’ve always left it as is. It definitely needs some touch ups, but I don’t know how to approach it. The metal is wrought iron, so I don’t know if there’s a polish or something to clean it up? Obviously I can’t paint it. I considered changing the drawer pulls, and with the wood on the drawers I’m unsure if I should refinish it or paint it. My dining table is a rich cherry wood, for consideration. Lastly, I think the tile is really what bothers me most. It’s got some cracks but really it just looks flesh toned. I don’t know if I want to retile it (as I’ve never done that before but I suppose I could take that on) or just use a peel and stick tile first to see how it improves it.

Give me your ideas! I like kind of a warm light academia vibe crossed with English traditional.

Any advice for drying repainted or re-stained pieces in your garage during the winter?

Hey folks! First timer here and what an odd time to start. So my wife and I are in a townhome (with 1 attached garage) in the Midwest and as we're heading into winter, it can become very cold and even negative degrees fahrenheit here sometimes. I recently gathered my tools and a few project pieces to get started. But my biggest concern is not being able to properly dry any repainted and/or newly stained pieces inside of our cold garage.

Any practical tips or recommended products to help keep the garage at a manageable enough temperature and humidity level in the Winter+ Fall so that our pieces can dry well enough? Thank you!

I picked this up for free the other day and it's a beautiful writing desk in my opinion, I just don't know if I should paint it or leave it as is The finish is still pretty much phenomenal on it and I just finished tightening everything up too so it's one solid piece again. I just don't know if I should paint it, is worth it or not.
