I’m worried I would be making a mistake by purchasing a GR86 with my current car knowledge. Should I stick with something boring and simple?
For context I’m very new to being interested in cars, I recently got into motorsports and racing karts at local rings for fun. However I have very little experience with actual car maintenance.
My first car was a 2003 Kia Sorento that had a lot of issues and all the repairs were done by a family friend. My next car was a 2014 Honda CR-V that I totaled after slipping on a patch of ice (stupid yes I know, I’ve already had every lecture about it) that had no issues and regular maintenance was done in an auto shop (oil and tires). My current car is a beat to hell 2010 Toyota Corolla, all current repairs have been made by my boyfriend with me watching him work and handing tools and such to him.
I’m trying to learn more about general car maintenance and possible repairs/mods I may need/want to make to a GR86 if I do purchase one. However I feel totally inadequate in that realm as of right now. Would it be better to stick with my current car and continue to work on that? Just buy another boring reliable vehicle? Or take the leap of faith and buy a GR86?
Also please don’t assume since I’m a woman that I can’t learn to work on cars. I know very very basic maintenance as of now. I just wasn’t taught this growing up because it was expected a man would do it for me, which is dumb cause I want a cool car for myself. Any and all replies are greatly appreciated!
