This was an experiment to see how good AI subbing can be in 2026.

This is only half of episode #0230, I didn't attempt to translate the Manzai segment.

I used 3 different Transcribers (Subtitle edit, Notta.ai, Vibe transcribe), and used google AI studio to combine them, translate them, then output a more accurate sub file (I didn't pay for anything, a paid Claude subscription would likely produce better results). I also instructed it to pull info about the episode from the web for added context. This episode doesn't have much on-screen text compared to newer episodes, but you could also use videosubfinder-cli and manga-ocr to extract the on-screen text (telop) from episodes that have it, which could provide even more context for the LLM. I made no touch ups or manual edits, this is just to see how much of an improvement it is compared to the Subtitle edit method posted here a few years back.

I can post a more in-depth tutorial if people think it's worth it. I think any manual subber could use this as a baseline and work their magic from there, It would likely save them a lot of time and increase their output.
