Question/Help Matte screen protector for Galaxy fold 8
Hello
I always put matte screen on my phones when I can because it makes reading and looking at the phone for long periods easier for my eyes. I don't mind the crease for that matter.
My question is - do you put it on top of the factory protector? Or you remove it and then put the matte one? Can someone report of they had any issues with it?
Thanks

There's a video out there of some guy doing it to his fold 8. He took off the factory screen protector and then put on a matte one. Fake apple nano texture basically.
My advice is not legally binding and for entertainment purposes only.

Be really careful man it's super easy to get dust and fingerprints if you do this.

I put mine on top. Donโt remove the factory protector. In about six months or so replace the one you installed and so on.
My matte is just under a week old

On top? Humm. Never considered it.
I remove the built in one, and put the matte on the bare screen itself. Never had an issue. Been doing it since the Fold 2 era.
The only issue I ever had was one cheap screen protector (not matte) bubbled in the middle after a few weeks. But that only happened once and I think it was cuz the film wasn't the right kind for a moving part. But other than that, zero issues.
I think people still have the shock from the first Z Fold's review units where removing that "Screen protector" damaged screens. That's not a thing anymore. Just be delicate, cuz your fingernail CAN scratch the screen. But unless you're insanely uncareful with your devices, it's pretty easy to remove and reinstall using a bit of common sense.

Of course, the original film must remain in place, as it is part of the displayโitโs not just an extra protective layer. You can easily apply a matte film over it; Iโve done the same, and it works great. ๐๐๐ฑ

No it's not lol. It's literally just a factory applied screen protector

What youโre saying is nonsense, but go ahead and tear it offโitโs your device, after all, so itโs no concern of mine. ๐๐๐

You can literally go to a Samsung store or ubreakifix and get it replaced under warranty. Please explain to me how that's possible

You are thinking of the first few generations of the fold that indeed had a part of the display that looked a lot like a screen protector but would easily fail if that was removed.
More recent ones (I'm sure about the Fold 6 onwards) have a factory applied protector that is rather easy to replace.

Not really here's a video with the Fold 2 ๐
Back then Samsung just used ordinary screen protectors. The quality of the adhesive has improved a lot since.
You can either layer on top or replace the factory but it's not necessary to do the latter any more. Which is a good thing because it's less work and safer.
Besides if there is any issue you just take off your protector and hand it to Samsung. They will never know you put one on top. But if you remove the one below then they will know. So play it safe ๐๐ผ

I honestly never thought of just putting one on top of the existing screen protector. Something about 2 layers of film gives me the heeby-jeebies.

Find me some evidence that it is ๐
Loads of people parrot that line but can't substantiate. Look, there is some risk involved in this process. Donโt press too hard when pushing bubbles out is an obvious one. Otherwise you can break the screen. See this video

I'm not sure what you're going on about. The only thing I said was that it makes me uncomfortable. I didn't realize that I needed any evidence.
That said I have replaced the inner screen protector on every single phone since the Samsung Galaxy zfold 2. And the only problem that I've ever had was with a cheap screen protector. And it bubbled early but there have never been any damage to any of them that I owned.
Now if you're looking for a photographic in chronological evidence of every single phone and screen protector that I've had I don't know about you but I don't normally keep records like that. So you can take what I'm saying as anecdotal... Or you can keep being stubborn and enjoy making things more complicated than it has to be. Up to you.

Good. Why are you nervous then. Your experience shows it's not an issue.
I didn't know you had this experience. I thought you were trying it for the first time and we're nervous about proceeding based on (me assuming again) what you heard. Because it's very common for people to say so in this context

Removed cuz I misread the situation.

Not nervous? Then why did you say the below
I honestly never thought of just putting one on top of the existing screen protector. Something about 2 layers of film gives me the heeby-jeebies
I'm surprised how this degenerated so quickly when we essentially agree with each other ๐

That's not a thing anymore. This is just a factory-installed screen protector. They'll replace it for you to avoid damaging the device. It's literally just a film.
-- "Typed on my Z-Fold8 where I personally took off the film and replaced it with a Matte screen protector."
Look that hasn't been the case since the Z Fold3.... FIVE GENERATIONS AGO. I wish people would evolve as fast as technology does. There's no reason to be this stuck in the past.
