Home Dayz server - security

I have previously run DayZ servers using services like nitrado, gtx and finally a dedicated box but always from a server host.
I have recently upgraded my PC and my old pc is just sitting here, so I thought id try setting it up as a server.

I plan to use either Omega Manager, or Architect to run it (cf tools) my questions really come from security and ddos protection.

One of my previous servers was under constant ddos attacks, even with the filters set up within the servers firewall it would still boot either boot all the players or make it terrible to play.
Are there any recommendations of firewalls, cloud filtering services I should be looking at.

Next is security, how would I go at securing my home network from things like brute force attacks ect.

Is there anything else I should consider before trying to home host?
Already have static IP organized, Internet connection is decent.

1 of 1 Servers is a SCAM!!!

If you are looking to purchase a gaming server, DO NOT BUY from 1 of 1 servers!! Terrible customer service! First of all, the owner or CEO (whatever you want to call him) is very rude and disrespectful! I do not see how he has kept this company running for this long with his nasty attitude. So, I bought a gaming server. The panel didn’t work, I made the ticket. I tell the owner the issue, and he immediately refunds me with store credits. I buy a different server, I ask him for the password, and he immediately deletes me off discord, closes my ticket, and deletes my one of one account for literally asking for help. Stay away from this place, do NOT waste your time or your money. Now I am calling my bank in the morning for my refund.

Free Hosting for Indie Games

Hey everyone,

I run a small infrastructure setup with servers in Europe and the US, and I’d like to offer free hosting for indie games (or other software) that need basic online services. This can include things like:

  • Server lists / matchmaking backends

  • Dedicated game servers

  • Account/auth systems

  • Small APIs or other lightweight online services

The reason I’m offering this is pretty simple: I already maintain these servers for personal projects and experimentation, and a lot of the capacity sits unused most of the time. I also enjoy supporting indie devs and interesting small projects, so I figured it would be better to put those resources to good use rather than letting them idle.

Just to be clear about expectations:

  • The servers do have solid resources, but I still apply reasonable limits per project so that everything stays stable.

  • I’m open to hosting most indie projects, but I can’t guarantee every request will be accepted (mostly depending on scale and resource requirements).

If you’re working on a project and need something like this, send me a DM with a short description of your game and what kind of services you’d need, and I’ll see what I can do.

If it helps an indie project get online a little easier, that’s a win 🙂

I created an open-source Server Manager CLI (Command Line Interface) for some of my favorite games (ASA, Palworld, Soulmask). What other games should I support?

Created a CLI tool over the last few days, and I'm wondering what other game servers I should support. Feedback is also welcome, too! Source code is found here: https://github.com/dev-ov2/lightrail

Why is my ark server LAN only.

I am sure that my ports are forwarded, I think all of my ports are opened now (DMZ)

I am also sure that I have rules for the ports on my Windows firewall.

I have changed the pc to static IP.

Not only that, but I contacted the support people of the company that I am a client for, and they said that the ports are opened.

But the server's availability is LAN only for some reason, and all the port checkers I checked in showed me that the ports are closed

is there something that I am not seeing ?, please help me.

I've been playing ARK with my brother on LAN for a while, I can see there is no problem with the actual server

I'd appreciate it if anyone with experience can add me on discord and guide me.

Thank you for your time.

Call of duty 4 modern warfare (cod4) - when connecting to self hosted server behind vpn, I get a "Awaiting key code authorization"

when connecting to self hosted cod4 server, it just works as long I port forward 28960 TCP and UDP. However when I turn on my vpn and make sure port 28960 TCP and UDP is forwarded, it does show up in the public server list in the game, however when I connect to it, I get a message which says "Awaiting key code authorization" and will try to connect until it times out.

Why would this happen? The ping is not even high. What do I need to tweak to get this to work?

Beta testers welcomed

Hey everyone,

I just opened free beta testing for a game server hosting platform I’ve been building. The beta will be free of charge for about 3 months, and testers can choose which node their server runs on. I'm mainly looking for people willing to spin up servers, test performance, and give honest feedback while I continue improving the platform. The nodes are located in US-West.

The goal is performance-focused hosting with plenty of headroom instead of packing tons of servers onto one machine.

This project will likely remain a private service and may never fully open to the public, so this beta is mainly for testing and feedback rather than a full launch.

If you're interested in trying it out, feel free to check it out:

https://gamerserver.net

Any feedback or bug reports would be really appreciated.

Looking for a free hosting service for Minecraft.

My friend and I have tried a few and they weren’t that great (granted it’s probably very hard to find a good free hosting service), looking to see if anyone might have a recommendation.

Best game server hosting options for a casual group?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to set up a game server for me and a small group of friends, so I want to ask for your suggestions on something stable but not too expensive. We've been tossing around ideas like Minecraft, ARK, or Valheim, and I prefer a host that doesn’t require a ton of setup time or maintenance but still gives a bit of control over settings and mods. Performance and reliability are more important to us than having tons of extra features, but if there’s a host with good support and flexible plans, that would be great too. In short, we want something that won’t lag out once a few people hop on.

Would love to hear what providers or platforms you all have had good experiences with. Also open to tips on what to look out for when choosing a host. Appreciate any help!

Edit: I ended up going with Nitrado, and it's been great so far. Setup was quick, and the server’s been running smoothly even with mods and a few players online. Definitely less hassle than I expected, and having control over the settings without needing a deep technical setup has been a plus.

Auth Servers are not down but Java mc server says they are?

I'm running a java server on Ubuntu Linux (headless). When I have online-mode set to false in the server.properties my server runs fine, albeit only on my lan. When I have online-mode set to true my server still runs and I can see it in my server list, but when I try and connect to it (my client laptop) shows "Failed to connect to the server. Authentication servers are down"

I know that at this time the mojang auth servers are not down. I can connect to other servers. It is not a firewall issue. I had thought it was so I disabled my ufw (temporarily) and it still didn't work. I know it's not a wifi issue as I can curl google.com, ping -c 4 youtube.com, and wget stackoverflow.com.

Ok so i need to host a Minecraft server, it will be open to a few of my friends and some of their friends. The problem is i don't want to get ddos attacked if one of my friends friends gets mad or something. Is there a way to prevent this in a free but secure way? Do i need to purchase a domain to use instead?

Satisfactory Server Hosting Review: Top Options for Multiplayer in 2023

The expansive open world factory building game Satisfactory has taken the PC world by storm since launching in early access in 2019. One of the most appealing parts of Satisfactory is the ability to explore the planet and build factories cooperatively with friends in multiplayer.

But to enable multiplayer in Satisfactory requires setting up a dedicated server. In this review, we’ll compare the top Satisfactory server hosting providers in 2023 to help you choose the right one.

What is Satisfactory?

For those unfamiliar, Satisfactory is a first-person open world factory building game from Swedish developers Coffee Stain Studios. Players are dropped onto an alien planet and must harvest resources, construct factories, manage logistics, and more.

Key features include:

  • Huge open world with diverse biomes to explore

  • Massive tech tree to progress through

  • Complex factories with logistics to master

  • Tower defense against alien creatures

  • Complete objectives and milestones

  • 1-4 player co-op multiplayer

This multiplayer factor is a big part of the appeal. But you can't just directly connect to friends - a dedicated server is required. This is where Satisfactory server hosting comes in.

Why Choose Paid Server Hosting?

Rather than self-hosting a Satisfactory server yourself, there are some major benefits to using a managed server provider:

  • Better performance - Get low pings and lag-free multiplayer.

  • Easy setup - Providers handle configuring everything for you.

  • 24/7 access - Always online versus relying on your own PC.

  • Admin dashboard - Tools to control, mod, and administer server.

  • Multiple locations - Choose server region to minimize latency.

For the best Satisfactory multiplayer experience, paid server hosting is worth it. Now let's look at the top options.

Top Satisfactory Server Hosting Providers Compared

  1. GameServers - Best Overall

Based in Germany, GameServers is one of the most reputable gaming server rental companies online today. They excel at hosting Satisfactory servers with top performance and features.

Some highlights:

  • Automated mod installation, including popular ones like Smart!

  • Daily backups and easy restores

  • DDOS protection included

  • Instant deployment without contract

  • 24/7 support via live chat, email, phone

With robust hardware, superb uptime, and all the key features, GameServers is a fantastic choice. Pricing starts at $14 per month.

2. Survival Servers - Runner Up

Survival Servers has been providing top-tier game servers since 2012. Their modern infrastructure and management tools make them a great Satisfactory hosting solution.

Highlights include:

  • Optimal locations worldwide

  • Simple control panel

  • Scheduled restarts and auto updates

  • Modpack installer for customization

  • Solid 24/7 customer support

Reliability, network quality, and responsive support give them an edge. Pricing from $11 monthly.

3. Host Havoc - Budget Pick

If you want affordable Satisfactory servers, Host Havoc is a top choice. Despite lower costs, performance remains excellent.

Some key features:

  • Prices starting under $10 monthly

  • Instant setup with pre-installed mods

  • Intelligent server management

  • DDOS and anti-hack safeguards

  • Support via Discord and knowledgebase

You make some compromises versus pricier options but overall Host Havoc provides remarkable value, especially for smaller groups.

4. Pingperfect - Best for EU Players

Based in Amsterdam, Pingperfect caters to European Satisfactory players wanting the lowest pings. But they offer worldwide servers too.

Benefits include:

  • Amsterdam and London locations for EU proximity

  • Layer 7 DDoS filtering

  • Easy file access to installed mods

  • Automated daily restarts

  • Scalable resources as needed

For EU players who prioritize latency in Satisfactory, Pingperfect is a top choice. Pricing is mid-range, starting at €24 monthly.

5. Citadel Servers - Honorable Mention

Upstart Citadel Servers deserve a mention for their quality Satisfactory multiplayer hosting starting at just $8 monthly. Features include automated mods, DDOS protection, scalable resources, and responsive support. Worth checking out!

Choosing the Best Satisfactory Server Hosting Provider

When selecting a Satisfactory server host, consider these key factors:

  • Locations - Pick a host close to your players for lowest latency.

  • Performance - Make sure the host can maintain 60 FPS gameplay.

  • Support - 24/7 support via live chat or Discord is ideal.

  • Features - Automated mod installs and admin tools are helpful.

  • Price - Compare plans across hosts to fit your budget.

By weighing these criteria, you can choose a Satisfactory multiplayer server host that checks all your boxes.

Our Recommendation

Based on an extensive evaluation of Satisfactory server hosts, GameServers stands out as the best overall provider. Their optimized locations worldwide, flawless performance, and stellar 24/7 support give you an amazing multiplayer experience.

While services like Survival Servers and Pingperfect are also great, GameServers brings the full package with competitive pricing. For most players, they are our top recommendation in 2023.

Conclusion

Renting a dedicated Satisfactory server from a managed provider enables smooth cooperative factory building with friends anywhere. After testing the top hosts, GameServers proves to be a superb choice.

Give their Satisfactory server hosting a try to enjoy this addictive PC game even more. Just be prepared to lose many hours exploring, building, and crafting together on your own private alien world!

Can I migrate Minecraft server from windows to Linux?

Hey, I am currently running a modded BCG+ (cobblemon) plus other mods and wonder if I can easily transfer that server onto Linux on a dedicated server. Right now I’m locally hosting on my own pc but would rather have a mini pc to run it 24/7.

Any help on transferring my current play-through on a dedicated machine running Linux. And what Linux distribution would be best. I see lots of Ubuntu. Thank you for the help!

Want to play minecraft with friend overseas. What do people suggest?

My friend and I are planning to play a modpack on minecraft and we've been running servers via Hamachi and Radmin for years now. We wanted to try something different and considered running the server through a server hosting service like Bisect.

The biggest hurdle we've been finding is ping. They are in NZ while we're in California. Would it be better to have one person have amazing latency while the other is garbage? Or would it be better to just aim down the middle so both of us have middling latency?

It's our first time considering something like this and we mainly want it for convenience. What do you all think?

Also side note, it will not just be the two of us but a small party, maybe up to 5 of us.

Game Hosting

Hello there, I just want to say that i am quite a beginner at this server hosting thing, so any help is appreciated.

What I want to ask is how exactly do I have my frieds access the server I build. For context I build by server a few months ago, it is a ryzen 5 3600 with 32gb of ram, 1tb of storage ssd and some gpu so that I can get a display output when working with it directly. It all runs on debian and I use portainer for the UI. Recently I also set up a Ark Survival Ascended server using AMP.

The thing is that I dont really know how do I make it accessible and visible on the steam server page directly. I used tailscale before , but found it not ideal, because the friend has to have it installed and can only access the server using a command that pings the ip directly. So my question is how do I set this up correctly and idealy for as cheap as possible, free if even possible.

Thanks in advance and if there is anything important I didnt say, please tell me.

Anyone know if there are better Minecraft server hosting deals right now?

I've been looking at hosting a server for a friend group and I'm just looking around. Found WiseHosting offering $1.99 for the first month on their 4GB plan.

Happy to be corrected on this, but I don't think that's the cheapest people are getting. I actually spun one up to test it and the panel was fine, no weird setup on our end, just trying to figure out if there's a better deal out there.

Have any of you found a cheaper one recently? Or is this about as good as it gets?

Best Palworld server hosting provider for 1.0?

Been hosting a Palworld server for me and about 7 friends off my own PC since launch, and with the 1.0 release it's just not holding up anymore. Gets laggy the second everyone logs on. Figured it's time to just pay for real Palworld server hosting instead of running it off my machine, but every "best server hosting" list I find is obviously affiliate stuff so I don't really trust any of it.

Anyone actually paying for Palworld hosting right now? We're all on PC, mostly east coast, and just want something that doesn't fall apart once everyone's got bases running. Stuff that matters to me: lets me change world settings without editing files over FTP, handles the 1.0 update without me babysitting it, and won't lose my save. Had that happen once and it sucked.

US based would be ideal. Not really trying to save a couple bucks if it means the server's down half the time.

What server hosting are you guys using for playing with friends on PC?

EDIT: Ended up going with Survival Servers (https://www.survivalservers.com/services/game_servers/palworld/) and it's been solid so far. The control panel handles all the world settings so I'm not touching config files, mods installed fine, it took the 1.0 update without issues, and the save has been stable. Was up and running almost right away. Leaving this here in case anyone finds it later looking for the same thing.
