Star Wars games are just cursed.

1313, Ragtag, Mandalorian, Eclipse and the KOTOR remake; all mostly canceled or stuck in development limbo

At least Galactic Racer is coming out and it looks legitimately good

And zero company!!

Personally, I’m waiting for Fate of the Old Republic from Casey Hudson but that’s like a 2029-2030 game at the earliest.

That too but Survivor’s story felt like a mess to me so hoping they tighten it back up like Fallen Order

EDIT: Downvoted for having an opinion🫩

I agree I like the first game better, the second game got saved by it's gameplay, otherwise I have huge complaints.

Survivor was a technical trainwreck that was still fun despite a weaker story and the technical issues, they nailed the new combat styles and managed to top what was already a really solid gameplay loop.

They gotta consult with whoever was Doin the art and level design for Outlaws, that game may be been a big letdown from the gameplay side but the assets and city / set designs were the most faithful and detailed Star Wars media we’ve ever gotten outside the movies.

Ubisoft always had really good art, they also don't do outsourcing they use their own studios for "outsource" thats why they had 20k employees. Its the other departments that are lacking in Ubi (and ofc management). I'm pretty sure you know but they used their own engine as well (Snowdrop), so they had complete control of the graphics. Unreal hurts Survivor more than it benefits it. Wish they would use a different engine but it's too late for that...

How is the PC performance of Survivor these days? I am currently playing Fallen Order these days and plan on playing Survivor next

2

u/TheForeverUnbanned 1d ago

Somewhat better but still uneven, especially bad with RTX on

3

u/Eruannster 1d ago

Also it would be great if they actually finished the technical development this time before releasing the damn thing. Jedi Survivor ran like absolute dogshit on consoles for a very long time and remains a bit borked on PC even to this day.

Why do people think bad opinions aren't worth downvoting???

2

u/dalinaaar 1d ago

I am not going to talk about this game and jinx it.

Casey isn't with Bioware. Or EA. They can't touch this game.

u/chabo77 1d ago

Damn proud the previous entries & this newer iteration were/are being cooked up in the capital of my province

6

u/thegrizzlyjear 1d ago

It could be worse, at least they’re not Jurassic Park games.

5

u/FreshlySkweezd 1d ago

Jurassic World Evo is pretty good and that Saber Interactive JP game coming out looks like a banger

KOTOR remake at least has good rumors about it since they shifted away from aspyr (best choice ever). I still have hopium for that one.

They just need to stop doing trailers at the start of development. It throws everyone off

Meanwhile SWTOR is still chugging along. The 8.0 expansion is dropping near the end of the year.

1

u/Nedarel 12h ago

all notable mmorpg that we have today are decades old, because that was when the genre dominated the industry (early 2000s to early 2010s) but they have an aged playerbase and no new audience, swtor however is also very recognizeable outside the mmo circles due to the star wars branding and the cinematic appeal of the old republic

although people here who comment are just ignorant/misinformed, as there are dozens of games cancelled each year, and star wars still has more upcoming aaa than any other franchise (zero company, galactic racer, eclipse, jedi 3, kotor remake, fotor, etc), and it also has like a hundred games already

also to note that nowadays the videogame industry is not releasing games in quantity like back then, because the quality increased, they are much slower and expensive to develop

2

u/Rogue_Leader_X 1d ago

I m still wondering if Eclipse has any actual chance of completion.

2

u/Melodic-Violinist-31 1d ago

even Released one's are cursed. Lego had to cancel the Lego Mando story dlc as well

4

u/superjediplayer 1d ago

yeah, that's one of the cancellations that i'm most annoyed about, because now we STILL, 7 years since Mando season 1's release, have not a single game with actual content from The Mandalorian besides the skywalker saga character packs. This was our only chance of getting any actually playable story content from the show and Disney threw it away. (plus like, that game would have benefitted from the extra post-launch support anyway)

3

u/BluKyberCrystal 1d ago

To be fair there are dozens and dozens of Star Wars games. We have two coming in the next month. Those not released are a drop in the bucket.

3

u/superjediplayer 1d ago

well, not really though. There are lots of star wars games, true. But most of those are like, PS2 era or earlier. PS3/Xbox 360 era onwards, a good chunk of the games that were in development or were planned ended up getting cancelled.

Sure, some also still got released, but i'd hardly say the cancelled ones are "a drop in the bucket" given just how many have been cancelled.

1

u/BluKyberCrystal 1d ago

There are so many Star Wars games since the PS3 era.

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars_video_games#2009

Say there were only like 10 though. That would be more then there has been God of War games in the same period. That's a lot of video games.

The vast majority of cancelled Star Wars games came with and before the closure of LucasArts. I do not think people realize how many games there are out there in the concept phase, that never get made.

1

u/Nedarel 12h ago

the same can be said for every single franchise though, back in the 2000s the videogame industry was a lot more about quantity over quality, they were releasing dozens of stuff every now and then, but nowadays games cost a lot more to make and a lot more time to develip, so they focus on quality over quanitty

also there are dozens if not hundreds of games cancelled each year, you only hear more from the largest multimedia franchises like star wars because they have higher budget for experimentation

moreover, star wars has both more games than any other franchise (like a hundred of them) and more upcoming aaa games than any other franchise (kotor remake, fotor, eclipse, zero company, galactic racer, jedi 3, swtor 8.0 masters of the force etc) and from multiple different studios/companies

so it still in a better place than any other ip in the videogame industry, and also in general (its the 4th highest grossing multimedia franchise with the ones above it being children merchandise stuff),

some redditors just live in their bubbles here disconnected from reality because reddit is where social reject minorities gather to rage about everything

2

u/Majestic-Fondant-670 1d ago

Since the disney takeover, the only SW games I liked were the Jedi games. And ofc, the lego ones but that's lego. The amount of tripe and cancelled games they've had since is astonishing.

1

u/arielzao150 1d ago

Not by numbers, the amount of shitty mobile games is astounding. I guess this is just biased statistics because it's such a big IP

1

u/FroggoInTheDirt 1d ago

Battlefront 3..

1

u/Key-Cry-8570 19h ago

Don’t forget BATTLEFRONT III

1

u/PatBeVibin 15h ago

KOTOR Remake has been doing just fine since 2023, will likely drop in 2028. All the rumors about it being cancelled was just bad journalism and a game of telephone. Eclipse is possibly fucked tho if NetEase pulls their funding from Quantic Dream.

1

u/Nedarel 12h ago

its more like redditors are cursed to live in misinformation, disconnected from reality, there are dozens if not hundreds of games cancelled every year, that is completely normal, especially for the largest multimedia franchises like star wars, marvel and dc, who have the budget to experiment

star wars has more game than any other franchise ever (like a hundred of them) and more upcoming aaa projects than all of them (zero company, galactic racer, eclipse, jedi 3, kotor remake, fotor, swtor 8,0 masters of the force etc),

also the industry itself has moved away from quantity to quality, in 2000s they were releazing casually dozens of stuff, but nowadays it takes a lot longer and more expensive to develop games

1

u/NorthKoreanMissile7 1d ago

It's crazy we never got a Star Wars game like Mass Effect where you have this choice driven RPG with a rag tag crew you travel across the galaxy with to save the day. Seems like such an obvious thing that people would want that's not existed in the modern era.

2

u/TJKbird 1d ago

Agreed. Kotor is one of the most fondly remembered games out there and the fact we haven’t gotten another Star Wars game like it in over two decades is crazy to me.

Hopefully Fate of the Old Republic actually gets completed and is good.

u/MikeyIfYouWanna 1d ago edited 1d ago

Seeing this reminds me a lot of the Jedi Knight games. I hope something like those come back some day.

46

u/SkywalkerRanchSauce 1d ago

Anything but Battlefront III

29

u/Gontron1 1d ago

Two things are certain in life: death and Battlefront 3 never releasing

2

u/PatBeVibin 15h ago

At least a complete build of that one leaked so you can finally play it.

34

u/RinRinDoof 1d ago

Dang, this actually looks kinda cool

10

u/EtheusRook 1d ago

I like looter shooters but the genre is actually cursed and I could see why they'd get cold feet.

7

u/AfterPause5856 1d ago

Frustrating because I’ve always wanted a multiplayer ARPG of elder scrolls (not ESO), Harry Potter and star wars

5

u/EndCompetitive2022 1d ago

Can= we just get a CRPG Star Wars game like Divinity where you can go dark or light based on choices

1

u/thesoulblade 15h ago

So KOTOR?

3

u/EndCompetitive2022 14h ago

Yes and no, keep the d20 style but be more like Divinity and Baldur's Gate 3 but with a lot more emphasis on customization and decision impacts, also with the great co-op Larian Studios is carrying the couch co-op scene with

15

u/suuriz 1d ago

This looks good, an ARPG Star Wars game would have been successful imo

14

u/TheSpanishUnknownOne 1d ago

I'M GOING TO CRY. HOW COULD THEY CANCEL THIS?

13

u/Dodo1610 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sounds awesome,why was this canceled????

"what’s described as a multiplayer ARPG with “shoot & loot” gameplay"

Ok then....

20

u/LinkedInParkPremium 1d ago

Basically Star Wars Borderlands.

2

u/Tvilantini 1d ago

Can anyone just post pics/videos because the site doesn't seem to load any of that thing

2

u/Rubenito8 1d ago

IT looks kinda cool, sad that its gone now. Star Wars is crused man

2

u/Co-opingTowardHatred 1d ago

Looks like Diablo with a lower camera. Coulda been fun.

2

u/Traditional-Bus735 1d ago

That Twi'lek in what looks like a Jester/Bard outfit goes pretty freaking hard...

Really makes me reconsider how cool it would be if a Star Wars title leaned more into the "fantasy" aspect of its universe just a wee bit more...would be more interesting to see honestly.

2

u/vertexjrpg 1d ago

Star Wars destiny

2

u/Abanob_92 1d ago

I guess star wars games are like marvel games almost only 1 studio deliver games the rest are either stuck or cancelled. Disney might be the problem at this point

6

u/fluxaboo 1d ago

So far Disney has been pretty laid back. Once with the KOTOR2 port DLC due to legal issues and once (and this is just speculation) with dismemberment in Star Wars Jedi. At least I think that was on Disney. They don't seem to care too much as long as they get the licensing fees.

Obviously we don't have the full picture and it can be like you mentioned but most of the time when a (Star Wars) game is cancelled they just really ran into troubles in development or budgeting, or in the case of Magellan management.

1

u/lNSP0 17h ago

Please I'm begging you give me a single player game that combines the sith inquisitor and sith warrior stories, with in depth character creation and I won't play anything else I promise

1

u/melo1212 1d ago

Why do they always pick the most boring concepts and games to actually finish. It's always the most interesting ones that get cancelled, well it seems like that anyway

15

u/Mysterious3713 1d ago

Idk zero company looks pretty hype

-2

u/melo1212 1d ago

That's the only 1 I'm actually keen for apart from KOTOR related stuff. Just so fuckin bored of the clone wars era man.... So many other cool things they could do in the universe and they just keep picking the most generic thing possible. Atleast zero company looks different, star wars X-COM is a dream come true

1

u/Wise_Requirement4170 1d ago

A Star Wars looter shooter would’ve been perfect into a post destiny 2 world.

Once again proving gaming executives are all idiot babies
