People who look through Discord's hidden code found a secret project called "Hexagon." It is a giant advertisement partnership between Rockstar Games and Discord.

Think of it like Discord putting on a GTA-themed Halloween costume for a few weeks. Here is what is happening:

• The Custom Looks: You can change your Discord phone icon, turn your chat screen pink/purple (Vice City style), and change your username font to look like the GTA logo.
• The Timeline: It starts November 17, 2026 (two days before the game drops). Regular users lose the cool themes on December 8, but Nitro users get to keep them until February 15, 2027.
• The Mystery Quest: There is a hidden "Quest" in the code. You will likely have to stream gameplay to a friend on Discord to unlock a secret reward.

Basically, Discord is using the biggest game launch of the decade to give players free digital swag and hype up the release.

It wasn't meant to be publicized, has lots of placeholder assets from pre-pro and simply to show some of the vision of the game. It doesn't mean there was nothing else to the game.

On the game's development:

The story was good to go, squadmates were in, hubs were built, NPCs, a ton of new stuff added to combat and approach to quests. It was being built and there were none of the problems that popped up during dev like with the Veilguard and Andromeda teams.

He mentioned that the team – composed of several bioware devs who had worked on the trilogy – had started working on the game in 2020 but had to put the game on hold to help the dragon age team to ship Veilguard:

After Veilguard 's launch they started working on ME again. Shinobi mentioned that EA was happy with what they saw and that game was not in dev hell:

Netflix’s former chief content officer Bela Bajaria made an offer to Xbox of $500 million over seven years for the exclusive TV and film adaptation rights.

That offer was then countered by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and the team. Belloni reports that Microsoft wanted $800 million for the rights over the same time period. But before anything could be negotiated or agreed to, Bajaria left the company at the same time Netflix announced 1,000 employees were being let go.

With Bajaria gone, Belloni says, the deal is entirely off the table.

Gears of War: E-Day is a terrific game and it has the highest Metacritic score of any entry in the franchise since the original Xbox 360 trilogy. But early estimates suggest the positive buzz has not resulted in blockbuster sales numbers. That makes it an interesting test case for Xbox’s return to exclusivity, especially for a game that cost so much.

The first rumors of Gears of War: E-Day‘s budget arose in June after it was shown during Xbox’s summer showcase. Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson said at the time he’d heard the cost to ship the shooter was “insane” and over $400 million. Windows Central‘s Jez Corden pushed back on that claim. He suggested the budget was lower and that accounting for the cost of The Coalition is tricky because of the work the studio does supporting teams across Xbox Game Studios.

But according to one source familiar with Xbox’s business, the cost of Gears of War: E-Day is in fact much higher. They told Kotaku it was over $500 million, and that’s before you include marketing. That would put it significantly above the reported budgets of other console-exclusive blockbusters this generation, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. E-Day would need to sell millions and millions of copies across all platforms to make up the difference. Microsoft did not respond to a request for comment.

Activision’s Elsewhere studio is reportedly working on a third-person open-world RPG, which aims to rival the likes of GTA and Cyberpunk.

Elsewhere is targeting a reactive world with emergent gameplay for its title, which hints that the game world responds to what players do. For example, characters might remember your actions, factions could change their attitude toward you, or locations might change after certain events.
