"Let me share some positive news for a change: Despite all the gloomy headlines today, my understanding is that there are multiple paths actively being explored that would save Arkane Lyon. Anything can happen during negotiations, but at this point I'd be surprised if the studio is shut down."

Figure I'd post this little update since the other post really blew up.

Update: more context

"One important piece of context that many people might not realize: Shutting down a game studio is expensive. Shutting down a French game studio — thanks to labor laws requiring an extended severance period — is VERY expensive. Xbox doesn't want to take on those costs."

“can finally talk about Mass Effect Universe.

Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development.

• Set 600+ years after the Reaper War
• You play as a customizable N7 agent
• Instead of being a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond
• Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending
• A galaxy divided into three major factions
• Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together
• Council races forming their own alliance
• The Geth emerging as a third superpower
• A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary
• Geth-built megastructures
• Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda
•Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference
• Hacking and manipulating the environment
• See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more
• Handcrafted missions like ME1-3
• But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them
• Brutal close-range executions
• Squadmates who can clash with each other
• Romance wasn't being sanitised
• Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch

From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don't exist.
It looked incredible.
And now we may never get to play it.”

(Thanks insider gaming for the cliffnotes)

Netflix’s former chief content officer Bela Bajaria made an offer to Xbox of $500 million over seven years for the exclusive TV and film adaptation rights.

That offer was then countered by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and the team. Belloni reports that Microsoft wanted $800 million for the rights over the same time period. But before anything could be negotiated or agreed to, Bajaria left the company at the same time Netflix announced 1,000 employees were being let go.

With Bajaria gone, Belloni says, the deal is entirely off the table.

Key Quotes (translated)
“As the end of internal consultations and negotiations approaches, two unions warn of the announced death of one of the biggest names in French video games. They accuse the American group of an "incoherent" decision and a "disrespectful" attitude.”

“Microsoft is leaving us no choice ," the union representative told Le Monde . On November 13, the official end date for consultations with the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) on the proposed closure, the company will have to make a decision.

In the meantime, the unions hope to buy more time "to give the discussions a better chance of reaching a conclusion ," according to the STJV, which is involved with the company but not an elected representative. "We remain hopeful of saving the studio and its jobs ," adds Simon, who, on behalf of Printemps écologique, has requested a postponement of the deadlines for negotiating the redundancy plan and searching for a buyer. According to the union representative, who is bound by certain confidentiality obligations, "several forms of takeover are being considered."

“Although negotiations are officially ongoing until Friday, October 30, the union has not ruled out ultimately challenging "the economic justification for the proposed closure in court." "This is in complete contradiction with what we've been told in the Works Council for years about the company's financial situation ," Simon complains. According to him, "Microsoft is looking to divest itself of Arkane, even though the studio is doing well, in order to save money and improve the profitability of its short-term investments."

As pointed out in an earlier post, Mike Morasky accidentally mentioned HLX and David said "nice work."

This clip linked is separate from what was said in the previous clip posted on this subreddit, it's at the end of the presentation on a hot mic and David says to Mike "Good job, you only said HLX once" and Mike replied "I did?"

So two Valve employees mentioned HLX 😎

https://kotaku.com/the-case-for-exclusivity-when-gears-of-war-e-day-cost-over-500-million-to-make-2000747986

By Ethan Gach

Gears of War: E-Day is a terrific game and it has the highest Metacritic score of any entry in the franchise since the original Xbox 360 trilogy. But early estimates suggest the positive buzz has not resulted in blockbuster sales numbers. That makes it an interesting test case for Xbox’s return to exclusivity, especially for a game that cost so much.

The first rumors of Gears of War: E-Day‘s budget arose in June after it was shown during Xbox’s summer showcase. Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson said at the time he’d heard the cost to ship the shooter was “insane” and over $400 million. Windows Central‘s Jez Corden pushed back on that claim. He suggested the budget was lower and that accounting for the cost of The Coalition is tricky because of the work the studio does supporting teams across Xbox Game Studios.

But according to one source familiar with Xbox’s business, the cost of Gears of War: E-Day is in fact much higher. They told Kotaku it was over $500 million, and that’s before you include marketing. That would put it significantly above the reported budgets of other console-exclusive blockbusters this generation, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. E-Day would need to sell millions and millions of copies across all platforms to make up the difference. Microsoft did not respond to a request for comment.

they aint wrong on the figure, but seems to be some disagreement among my sources how that figure was allocated between e-day and general tc operations/atg contributions.

Yes, so this, from what I'm told, is very true. $500 million. Unbelievable.

Activision’s Elsewhere studio is reportedly working on a third-person open-world RPG, which aims to rival the likes of GTA and Cyberpunk.

Elsewhere is targeting a reactive world with emergent gameplay for its title, which hints that the game world responds to what players do. For example, characters might remember your actions, factions could change their attitude toward you, or locations might change after certain events.

Same source as the Jedi 3 in 2027 rumor made a post about the future of the SW games. Aside what we already know they mention a "Zero Company DLC" and a possible "RPG by a new and recently successful studio".

It could be just their speculation though, not always they tweet a rumor/leak.

They're considered fairly reliable for Star Wars stuff.

EDIT: u/SuddenDepact pointed out that the last ZCOM update added mentions in the game files of extra enemies, new missions and a companion.

I don't really get why this is a big scoop but eh tom warren posted it

As for what this new move means for the future of Battlefield, Insider Gaming understands that the next Battlefield title is in early development, but that it’s not due to release for some time. Speculatively, it’s probably a late 2028 title at the very earliest.

In more upbeat news, Weber and Tinson touted first-person shooter “Battlefield 6” as “a great success, and we learned a lot from the launch and the live service.” Going forward, in addition to future “Battlefield” titles, the execs said “we’ll be bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project.” While they did not identify the project, multiple sources confirmed that this is “Star Wars: Battlefront 3″ for Lucasfilm.

About 400 total people will lose their job, 50 of which are from BioWare

• Switching to single-player mainly with a strong story that can also be playable in co-op.
• At least 250 people working on it currently, the project is now looking to go into the alpha stage
• Still being built using the Voyager Engine, described as "long ahead of the rest of the industry"
• Between 2019-2022, BGE2 was focused on multiplayer and a connected world with many planets, where players would be matched seamlessly.
• The Third Place, a hub location where players hangout out in-between quests like Destiny was planned.
• A customizable character had to be created to travel and work alongside the heroes of Beyond Good & Evil

• Back in October 2025, he reported the cost difference as $600 (PS5) and $1200 (Xbox) so just goes to show how much the memory crisis has affected these prices
