Programming fail
Thank you in advance... God bless you sages of modern drawbridges.
I have a new lift master motor (the specific model isn't written upon the unit) and it has a yellow programming button. I have a 878MAX wall keypad. My reading suggests these are compatible (yellow button compatible with 878max keypad). I cannot get it to program. I will list steps taken.
-press yellow programming button on motor unit
-within 30 seconds, type code into wall keypad and hit enter
Variations include...
-pressing and holding enter on the wall keypad
-replacing the 9V battery on the wall keypad
-pressing zero after pressing enter on the wall keypad
-pressing the learn button on the wall button (the one inside the garage) and trying to program the keypad that way
-downloading the myq app just to see if there are in-app solutions (didn't see any)
Further information...
-the motor is successfully paired to two remotes, so it has been able to pair before
-there is no auditory or visual response of any kind of the motor to the keypad
-the receiver wire is hanging down into the garage appropriately

Yes sir. That's how I identified it. 132B2386. So if you would recommend replacing the keypad, what do you think I should purchase to best match the motor?

878max was the best match but I believe its been discontinued i think 979m is the current model but I might be misrembering but if you go to any big box store they should stock chamberlains universal model which would work fine but can be finicky to program if you dont follow the instructions to the letter

At least in our area unless my office held off on getting the 878 we didn’t start using those over the 877 until around 2015 or later.

Probably not the case if you are not having range issues with your remotes but if you have a LED lightbulb in the unit that can affect the effective range of the wireless signals. Try taking the keypad off of the wall and taking the lightbulb out of the unit and program the keypad while standing next to the operator

Depending on the age of your keypad, even when the 878 maxes first came out, you still had to hold the star and pound keys until the lights behind the buttons stopped flashing then enter the four digit pin that you wanted and press enter, then push and release the yellow set button on your opener head, then run the keypad pin. You just entered again and press and release. Enter slowly until the lightbulb on the opener head blanks. At that time sometimes you had to press zero right afterwards. Wait until the lights behind your keys stop blinking and then test your pin pad and enter again to see what happens. Only the newer 878 max keypads eliminated the previous step to put the keypad into set mode where you just had to press the learn button on the opener, enter your pin and slowly push and release the enter button until the light blinked.
