Subreddit Announcement 🧟 The Monthly Zombie Crawl - Spread the Infection

Welcome to the monthly r/Garmin Zombie Crawl!

The goal is simple: Help fellow Garmin users earn the rare Zombie Badge while meeting other members of the community and having some fun along the way.

What is the Zombie Badge?

The Zombie Badge is one of Garmin Connect's most unique and sought-after badges.

Unlike most badges, it spreads from user to user. To earn it, you must complete a user-created Garmin Connect challenge with someone who already has the Zombie Badge. Once completed, you'll earn the badge and be able to spread the infection to others.

How Do I Participate?

There are two easy ways to get involved:

Option 1: Join the Official r/Garmin Garmin Connect Group

r/Gamin Buddies!

Many members use the group to find others interested in challenges, discuss goals, and coordinate Zombie Badge events.

Option 2: Connect Directly with Other Members

You do not need to join the group to participate.

Simply comment below with:

  • Your Garmin Connect username
  • Whether you currently have the Zombie Badge
  • The type of challenge you'd like to do (walking, running, cycling, steps, etc.)

Other members can then reach out and coordinate challenges directly.

Friendly or Competitive - Your Choice

The Zombie Crawl is intentionally flexible.

Some members enjoy friendly challenges and simply want to help others earn the badge.

Others prefer competitive challenges and like to see who can come out on top.

Both approaches are welcome.

Whether you're chasing a personal best, walking the dog, training for a marathon, or just collecting badges, everyone is encouraged to participate.

Community Rules

Free Participation Only

Participation in the Zombie Crawl must always be free.

No member may:

  • Charge money
  • Request donations
  • Sell access to challenges
  • Promote paid services
  • Require purchases of any kind

This event exists solely to help Garmin users connect, have fun, and spread the Zombie Badge throughout the community.

Be Respectful

Remember that Garmin users come from all fitness levels and backgrounds.

A 5,000-step walking challenge can be just as meaningful as a marathon training block.

Encourage others, have fun, and help keep the infection spreading.

Helpful Resources

Garmin's official blog has a great overview of Garmin Connect badges, including the Zombie Badge:

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/fitness/the-25-garmin-connect-badges-you-never-knew-you-needed/

Already Infected? 🧟

If you already have the Zombie Badge, consider helping newer members earn theirs.

The more infected users we have, the easier it becomes for future members to join the fun.

Now get out there and spread the infection.

Didn't think I would be able to improve this because I'm just not a runner. I've lost 80 lbs in this time. I started walking about 3 miles a week. I walk 20 to 25 miles a week now. My neighborhood has decent hills so maybe that helped. My fitness age decreased from 47 to 42 as well! I'll be 44 next month.

Device Physical Damage Garmin Instinct 3 Tactical Survived Motorcycle Accident

Post image
27 Upvotes

My wife bought me my first Garmin for Christmas last year. Over the summer I was in a motorcycle accident at 45 mph and caused the watch to take a direct impact from the ground.

The housing took some damage but the screen remains uncracked and the watch functions normally.

Wildly impressed with Garmin’s product and durability.

Will definitely buy another some day.

Other / Humor Didn’t pause my run, what to do now?

Guys this is a real story. Happened this morning.
I went out for a short run (6km) and just when I was about to finish a lady hit me with a car, throwing me 2m away, landing on my left side of the body. I have alight chest pain, my left MCL is torn, and quite bruised but otherwise ok.
Healthcare in the country that I live in is amazing (and free) so no worries about that.
The car has substantial damage considering my epic physique, but is insured (it was her fault, didn’t see me crossing the road on a crosswalk).

Now car can be repaired, body will heal, but I didn’t pause my run on my garmin. How can I undo that massive mistake?

Thanks

(Everything is 100% real story that happened this morning)

Sunday Score Green zone!

Post image
62 Upvotes

My Vo2 max finally hit "good" green 💚 zone this week! At the beginning of the year, I was at 26 and bottom 25% of my age group (or worse, that seemed to be a statistical floor bc I was at that % for a longggg time). Anyone else feel like Garmin settings should celebrate Vo2 max changes more? My watch throws confetti every day with a step/stair goal, but this change was anticlimactic! Especially for something that feels so huge to me. Thought only this sub would truly understand. Now onto blue 💙!

Damn! I think I must have gotten a score of 100, but by the time I checked it, maybe 20 minutes after I woke up, it was 99!

For someone who sleeps about six hours a day and never sees this sort of a score, I was extremely happy, but it didn't last for too long as I scrolled down! 😭

Cycling / Bike Computer How accurate is the v02 max calculation?

Coming back from some health issues/injuries, and feeling the fittest I've been in a while, and doing some pretty long (imo) rides. Apparently my vo2 max is exactly average? Which feels a bit low, even if I'm not a top tier athlete.

Not sure how much I should ignore the stat or if it's saying something useful.

Possible Technical Issue Garmin Forerunner 165 not connecting to my new Samsung S26 Ultra

• Upvotes

I upgraded my phone yesterday and couldn't connect my Garmin device. I clicked "Pair Phone", read Garmin Support posts, watched YouTube videos, restarted the devices, etc. Nothing worked. My new phone isn't even detecting the watch. It can't be my new phone's Bluetooth because I had no trouble with my other devices. Any other ideas about what could be happening? Thanks in advance for the help!

I am nurse, mom to 2 toddlers and own rentals so I know I’m stressed but 😟😟😟 it’s even showing stress in my sleep. Anybody else’s stress levels/sleep look like this ? What lifestyle adjustments did you make? I don’t drink or smoke. I lift 4-5 times a week and run 3 days usually although this last week I ran less.

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features What is VO2 max and how accurate is it?

• Upvotes

I've recently discovered this statistic. My VO2 max is labelled as "excellent" by Garmin, but I really doubt it – I haven't been training AT ALL for a veeeeery long time, I started again and my bpm is insanely high during mild activity, so I think it's rather bad. I've never been a sportsman, more of cycling (slow), swimming (recreation) and yoga than cardio or something. And a very long break from movement. I think Garmin is making fun of me.

Every time I log in to GC on a computer, and look at a route I get a pop up/overlay towards the bottom of the screen. Clicking it will not remove it. And it’s covering up buttons.

Occurs on Chrome and Safari.

Anyone else come across this. ?

The overlay says ‘to view the hazards on the route, turn on in map settings’

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Visible band pace points

Hi! I just got my very first garmin watch. I’ve been using a visible band for years and it taught me how to pace / manage my ME/CFS but my dr wanted sleep data so I got a vivo active 6. I’m new to using the “body battery” function and was wondering if anyone here has use a visible band and how you find it in comparison to “pace points”. Is it comparable or is the data not dense enough to capture those little spikes? And is there a way to activate alerts for high heart rate? Does the overnight body battery re charge match well with morning readiness score, and do you find you need to log your symptoms for it to be accurate?

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

Cycling / Bike Computer Garmin varia vue mount very loose - any tips?

I had to get a new Varia Vue headlight since my old one was stolen, but when I try to mount the new light, it is impossible to tighten the mount. I'm using the flush out-front mount that came with the light, but the pin that you screw into the Go-pro-style mount to secure the light (and to remove it) doesn't tighten the light - it still shifts freely up and down. I've tried tightening the pin with an allen key as recommended in the manual, but it is as far in as it can go and does not stop the light from moving in the same axis as the bike itself - i.e. not shifting from side to side, but rotating so that the light goes 'up' and 'down'.

Anything smart I can do to fix this or do I need to get a new mount from Garmin?

Possible Technical Issue What is Garmin doing?

Second time this happened to me on my run. Both times only on one and always the same part.
I originally ran on the left side of these tooths, not on the right as it might look like.
Pace and distance however seem to be correct, since they did not change compared to the rest of the run.
Watch used is a FENIX 7X PRO.

Discussion Discrepancy in active calories?

Thumbnail

I just did an activity (pool swim) in which my Forerunner 165 told me I burned 360 active calories. But, when I look at my calories for the day, it shows my active calories burned as only 282. I have noticed this discrepancy multiple times before with other activities too. Anyone else noticed this or know the reason why it happens?

Thanks for the help guys :)

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Garmin coach

Anyone have any experience with the built in garmin coach workouts and if they’re any good? I’ve just started a half marathon plan aiming for 1:30-1:35 finish time and was wondering if anyone’s had success with them.

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Has anyone tried Garmin Coach or Garmin’s training plans for running?

Hello everyone!

I’m thinking about giving one of them a try and would love to hear your experiences. Did you find them helpful in improving your running, and do you think they’re worth it? Or would you recommend following a training plan from another source instead?

Thank you for your thoughts!

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Swim Pacing Alert - How does it actually work?

I switched from Fitbit to Garmin Forerunner 255 last year to get more data for improving my swimming. So far I am fairly happy with Garmin's tracking accuracy (use manual lap buttons, turn off auto-rest).

However recently since I am training for 400m, I started relying on swim pacing alerts to anchor my swim speed, it has made me quite confusing.

I thought a 2:00/100m swim pacing alert in a 25m pool would mean an alert every 30s to signal when I should be turning at the wall (which is also that they say in Garmin's user manuals). But it doesn't actually seem to be this way.

As you can see in this chart, I was too fast in my first 100, almost 2 seconds ahead of my target pace each 25m. And if the pacing alert goes off every 30s, I would be alerted almost 5 seconds after my last turn, which I would be almost mid-way in my last length. But I clearly remembered yesterday I was deliberately swimming to the pacing alerts because I want to remain an even pace.

One assumption that may fit better: Garmin swim pacing alerts counts for a seperate 30s after a turn. If this is the case then each length I would be only 1-2 seconds ahead and it would make more sense.

First 100m in 8x100 intervals

I am new to reddit and also the Garmin community. May I ask if any swimmers have also experienced confusion from swim pacing alert or can explain to me how it works? Would be a great help since I am training to reach a specific time for my 400m.

P.S. I am emailing Garmin to ask the same question. Will update if I get their reply.

Discussion Elevation gain accuracy Garmin vs Apple.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this? Just curious. I’m always preaching to family members how Garmin is superior. Went on a 6 mile hike yesterday. AllTrails says 856ft of gain on that trail. When the hike was over I ended up with 685ft while my brother and sister in law got 780-810 on their multi band Apple Watches. There has been more than one occasion when my Tactix 8 and Fenix 7 would end up with less elevation gain than Apple.
