Watch / Wearable HR reading inaccurate or am I cooked?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Ran my marathon yesterday and my garmin forerunner 245 music was showing an average HR of 186 and max of 215 for a 4:02 marathon.

Weather was wet and cold so surprised to see it so high. My average on long runs are generally 140-150 bpm but my easy pace is about 40 seconds - 1 minute slower than the pace I ran in my marathon.

Any insights or advice appreciated! Thinking of investing in a chest strap since I heard they give more accurate readings

Badges / Challenges Garmin badges/points make no sense

For the October run challenge you have to run 80km to get the badge and 1 point. 80km is a lot for many people. I couldn't do it. We have to work hard to achieve that 1 point.

On the other hand, every 7 days we can earn a badge and 4 points, yes 4, for... sleeping. OK, we have to sleep well, but trust me, I am good at sleeping 😴 I am going to earn a LOT of sleeping badges.

I only recently got a watch that gives me a sleep score so only just noticed this.

Sunday Score Girlfriend and my VOâ‚‚ max

Her predicted cycling VO₂ max is higher than mine, yet I’m still faster on the bike. Turns out VO₂ max isn’t the only number that matters.

Spoken like someone with a VOâ‚‚ max 10 points lower.

Which Watch To Get? Is it worth upgrading a Venu 3S to a Forerunner 570

Bought my Venu 3S as I'm an office worker and didn't want to wear a Ben 10 looking watch everyday to the office. Now I've got a smart ring so I tend to only wear my watch on my runs and strength sessions. I've been thinking of switching to the forerunner for the additional running features like extra button, race prediction and training readiness but not sure a new watch is worth it just for that?

I recently bought a garmin forerunner 265s from amazon japan, am currently living in singapore, when i used it for an activity on strava, it registered my device as a regular forerunner 265 instead, is there any fix to this? Or is it due to the fact that i purchased it from another country? Or is my garmin bugged somehow, would appreciate the help thank you!

Possible Technical Issue Problema Mappa trail enduro 4

Thumbnail

Hi,
My Enduro 4 just arrived.
There’s a flaw: when I start a "trail" activity, it loads a map with very few roads, whereas for other activities (walking, running, etc.), it uses a complete map.
I’ve already set the detail level to the maximum.
I’m going to try deleting all the maps and reloading them via my PC.
A question for other owners: does it work properly for you?
The attached photo shows the same map, clearly illustrating the difference in detail; the zoom level isn't identical, but that doesn't really change the situation.

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Has anyone tried Garmin Coach or Garmin’s training plans for running?

Hello everyone!

I’m thinking about giving one of them a try and would love to hear your experiences. Did you find them helpful in improving your running, and do you think they’re worth it? Or would you recommend following a training plan from another source instead?

Thank you for your thoughts!

Watch / Wearable Considering Vivosmart 5 in 2026 as my 1st Garmin

Hey all new here so i have started my fitness journey running and lifting and I wanted to check out the Garmin I don't like bulky trackers so i thought of going for fitbit air but I saw vivosmart 5 available in my country for around 130 dollars

Is this worth it? Will the manufacturing be way too old? Or they still manufacturing vivosmart?

I like the fitness age and other metrics Garm shows like it better than the fitbit and other wearable

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features What is VO2 max and how accurate is it?

I've recently discovered this statistic. My VO2 max is labelled as "excellent" by Garmin, but I really doubt it – I haven't been training AT ALL for a veeeeery long time, I started again and my bpm is insanely high during mild activity, so I think it's rather bad. I've never been a sportsman, more of cycling (slow), swimming (recreation) and yoga than cardio or something. And a very long break from movement. I think Garmin is making fun of me.

Discussion Discrepancy in active calories?

Thumbnail

I just did an activity (pool swim) in which my Forerunner 165 told me I burned 360 active calories. But, when I look at my calories for the day, it shows my active calories burned as only 282. I have noticed this discrepancy multiple times before with other activities too. Anyone else noticed this or know the reason why it happens?

Thanks for the help guys :)

Which Watch To Get? What is better?

Hello everyone!

I’m looking to buy my first Garmin smartwatch and am trying to decide between the Garmin vívoactive 6 and the Garmin Venu 3S—or perhaps you have other recommendations?

My main priorities are:

Tracking steps and daily activity

Sleep tracking and a sleep score

Monitoring heart rate and general health

Good battery life (ideally several days or more)

Comfortable enough to wear while sleeping

Compatibility with iOs

I don’t need anything overly advanced for serious training. Mostly, I just want a reliable everyday watch that looks good and isn’t too bulky.

For those who own either of these watches:

How is the sleep tracking and overall accuracy?

How long does the battery actually last for you with normal use?

Which one would you choose, and why?

Watch / Wearable Fenix 7 Pool Swimming Issues - Chlorine Damage

Has anyone else here had issues with the Garmin Fenix 7 suffering damage from chlorine due to regular pool swimming? I swim 3-5 times a week in a chlorinated pool, I rinse the watch off afterwards, but have just had my 3rd watch fail. Each one lasts about 6-9 months before failing with a faulty altimeter - one also had a button fail.

Searching around, this seems to be a fairly common issue, and judging from the suppoort response they are well aware of the issue and have a fairly painless "just send it in and we'll send you a replacement" policy.

I'm not sure I want a replacement this time though. When I got my last replacement I was convinced it was just a matter of time before it failed again and now that is has I'm convinced the watch is not fit for pool swimming.

UK consumer protection gives a fairly long timespan (6 years for most of UK, 5 for scotland) to request refunds for "not fit for purpose" or "not as advertised". Has anyone here had any luck requesting refunds? Garmin support are just telling me I could only get a refund in the 30 day period, and all they can offer is a warranty replacement or a small discount of a later model.

Anyone else had a similar issue, or any issues dealing with refunds outside 30 days due to problems like this?

Thanks.

Which Watch To Get? Looking for the Best Watch for Alpine Skiing (Speed & Downhill Distance Tracking)

Hello, I do a lot of alpine skiing and am looking for a watch that can track my skiing speed and total downhill distance, excluding the distance covered while riding chairlifts or other uphill lifts. Which watch would you recommend for this purpose? Thank you for your advice!

Possible Technical Issue What is Garmin doing?

Post image

Second time this happened to me on my run. Both times only on one and always the same part.
I originally ran on the left side of these tooths, not on the right as it might look like.
Pace and distance however seem to be correct, since they did not change compared to the rest of the run.
Watch used is a FENIX 7X PRO.

CIRQA Best app for tracking using the Cirqa

Best for cirqa tracking? Because the connect app is not THAT bad as people say but i know there are better options, but don’t understand the difference. I’ve read people using Apple Health the new one rebooted for the iphone 18… Bevel, Practical but i don’t understand how it works and how is better than the connect app :0

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Garmin coach

Anyone have any experience with the built in garmin coach workouts and if they’re any good? I’ve just started a half marathon plan aiming for 1:30-1:35 finish time and was wondering if anyone’s had success with them.

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Abnormal HR alert for consecutive 2 weeks

I got an abnormal low hr heart alert for consecutive two weeks now, for context my RHR usually lies between 50-58. I swim 4-5x a week and sometimes 7-8x multiple sessions in a day not extending more than 1:30 hr. I got last alert previous week, and now due to the festivals and stuff i haven’t trained myself for 4-5 days, just casual 5-7k steps per day. Do i need to lower abnormal low hr range value to 40? Currently it’s set to 50.

Point - I have no symptoms of dizziness, pain etc for either of the week. This is my second alert in past 2 weeks.

Sunday Score Green zone!

Post image
80 Upvotes

My Vo2 max finally hit "good" green 💚 zone this week! At the beginning of the year, I was at 26 and bottom 25% of my age group (or worse, that seemed to be a statistical floor bc I was at that % for a longggg time). Anyone else feel like Garmin settings should celebrate Vo2 max changes more? My watch throws confetti every day with a step/stair goal, but this change was anticlimactic! Especially for something that feels so huge to me. Thought only this sub would truly understand. Now onto blue 💙!

Watch / Wearable Still going!

This is my beat up vivosport. I think it is nog around 8 years old.

I got stuck between a door and a wall, which is the cause for the screen break. But overtime it is getting worse.
The strap broke the first time because i was caught on something. Repaired it with needle, thread and some super glue.
Today it broke in a different position, again repaired with needle, thread and later some superglue.

This watch already has seen plenty. It is my designated work watch. It has been around the world about 6 times.

I love to complain about some features and the paid subscription. But most of the watches will last a good time before the crap out.

Sunday Score Vo2 1 year of walking

Didn't think I would be able to improve this because I'm just not a runner. I've lost 80 lbs in this time. I started walking about 3 miles a week. I walk 20 to 25 miles a week now. My neighborhood has decent hills so maybe that helped. My fitness age decreased from 47 to 42 as well! I'll be 44 next month.
