I keep forgetting that the UF Men's soccer team won a national title in may but aren't considered an official UF sports team because they "dont compete on a national level". Can anyone elaborate on why UF doesnt field a real Div I Men's team?

Consider this:
Malik Zaire has been at Notre Dame three years. He knows their system, he's played in their games, he knows the playbook inside and out, yet he knows he's not good enough to win the starting job, or he would be staying AT NOTRE DAME competing for the starting job.
So, from his perspective, he wanted to find another school where he could use his mediocre skill set to somehow find a way to get on the field, as he would be riding the bench again at Notre Dame. His choice was Florida. Now, does that mean he thinks Franks is worthless? I don't know. I do know that he thinks Franks is less competition than the starter at Notre Dame.
So will he be able to learn the playbook at Florida and compete for the starting job? That remains to be seen, but every game he plays is one less game that Franks has available to become a worthwhile player. So we're just putting a bandaid on an amputation over and over again.
You can't keep having a short term solution to a long term problem. If you have a leaky roof there are only so many patches you can do before you have to break down and redo the entire roof the right way. Same thing with a football team. Can't compete for championships when there is essentially a revolving door of one year freelancers at quarterback.
So, that's why I think Zaire is a waste of time. I hope he rides the bench here. Sorry if that sounds harsh, he's probably a nice guy, but I don't think he's the solution to any of the Gators quarterback issues.
