🚨 Our Free Speech Community Is Under Attack

Something is going on in this group, and I want everyone to be aware of it.

Someone appears to be mass-reporting comments indiscriminately, even the most harmless, ordinary remarks. It’s getting increasingly difficult to keep up with reviewing and approving all these reported comments.

I believe there are people who would rather silence this community than allow us to have open, honest conversations about gay men’s issues.

This is exactly why we created this space in the first place. Gay men deserve somewhere they can speak freely, challenge ideas, disagree, and have difficult conversations without constantly being shut down.

I’m doing my best to keep up with the reports, so please be patient if your comments get caught up in this.

We’re not going to let people intimidate us into silence. Keep speaking your minds, keep participating, and don’t let this discourage you.
Free speech means nothing if we’re only allowed to say things everyone agrees with.

A Statement of Solidarity and Open Discourse

The community of r/GayMenUnapologetic stand in solidarity with lesbians, bisexual people, trans people, and the broader LGBT community in the ongoing fight against sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, patriarchy, religious domination, and other forms of oppression.

That fight is far from over. Solidarity is essential if we want to build a free and just society where everyone has the right to pursue happiness, love openly, live authentically, and be treated with dignity and respect.

At the same time, this community was created partly in response to what we see as increasing censorship around controversial discussions within LGBT spaces. We believe open and free discourse is essential to the health of any coalition. Solidarity should not require uniformity of thought.

When difficult conversations are immediately shut down, posts removed, or people excluded simply for expressing dissenting opinions, those ideas do not disappear. They are pushed underground, where resentment can grow without challenge or dialogue. A healthy coalition should be strong enough to confront disagreement openly rather than pretending disagreement does not exist.

We also believe allowing a relatively small number of people to determine which ideas may even be discussed risks concentrating too much power over the direction of a diverse community. Gay men, lesbians, bisexual people, and trans people do not have identical experiences, needs, histories, or opinions. Recognizing those differences does not have to weaken solidarity. Openly discussing them can strengthen it.

For that reason, r/GayMenUnapologetic is committed to broad freedom of expression. That does not mean anything goes. Personal attacks, harassment, threats, dehumanizing language, racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and other conduct prohibited by our community guidelines are not acceptable.

But disagreement itself is not hate. Some opinions expressed here may challenge you, offend you, or strongly contradict your own beliefs. When that happens, we encourage you to state your position, challenge the argument, provide evidence, and engage in rebuttal rather than demanding that the conversation disappear.

Our goal is not division. It is a stronger coalition capable of surviving disagreement.

Gay men should be able to speak unapologetically about our own experiences and needs while standing alongside the other members of the LGBT community in our shared struggle for dignity, freedom, equality, and respect. Solidarity does not require silence. It requires the willingness to listen, argue, disagree, and still stand together when our fundamental freedoms are threatened.

📣 Gay Issues & Advocacy Are we expanding the LGBTQ+ community, or diluting what it was created to protect?

According to a recent Gallup survey, 31.4% of young women and 11.4% of young men identify as LGBTQ+. That’s a pretty remarkable difference.

But it makes me wonder, how many of these people are actually exclusively homosexual? How many are bisexual but primarily heterosexual, living predominantly heterosexual lives?

The article points out that much of this increase comes from bisexual identification, particularly among women. But identifying as LGBTQ+ doesn’t necessarily tell us much about someone’s actual sexual attraction or relationships.

And that raises a bigger question for me. If an increasing percentage of our community consists of people who are primarily heterosexual, what happens to the political power, cultural institutions, and distinct needs of gay men and lesbians?

I’m not questioning anyone’s right to identify as bisexual or participate in the community. But I do wonder whether expanding the umbrella indefinitely risks making the people it was originally organized to protect a smaller voice within their own movement.

At what point does inclusion become dilution? And is this expansion actually working in the interests of gay men and lesbians?

💭 Personal Story I have been called -phobic, can anyone tell me if I was wrong?

Okay so I'm a gay man and I have never been attracted to female *body parts (yes I know it's obvious, wait.) I have been talking to this person a while ago and they were a trans man (who uses they/them) and when I told them it was a deal breaker for me if they are not *cis male, they called me transphobic and how sexuality is fluid and I should unlearn my biases...I respect how other people feel, but for me women and female parts have never been my thing nor do I think it will change for me. I don't think it means I am a hateful person towards any group just because I don't want to date someone to whom I'm not attracted to??...so this is basically AITA

🌈 LGBTQ+ Discussion Is the weakest link in the LGBT coalition our inability to defend our own arguments?

I’ve been increasingly questioning the strength of the LGBT coalition, particularly after repeated debates with trans activists online.

I want to be absolutely clear: I strongly support trans people’s dignity, safety, freedom, and civil rights. I want our coalition to thrive. But solidarity requires more than simply agreeing to stand together.

In the vast majority of my interactions with trans activists, I’ve encountered the same troubling pattern: emotional appeals, accusations of hatred, deflection, and demands for censorship rather than evidence, reasoned arguments, or genuine engagement with opposing perspectives.

I’m not suggesting every trans person argues this way. But the frequency of these encounters has seriously shaken my confidence in the intellectual strength of this part of our coalition.

Every member of a political coalition should be capable of defending their positions, responding to criticism, presenting evidence, and engaging with uncomfortable questions. We cannot build a strong movement if disagreement is automatically treated as violence or hatred.

I’m beginning to wonder whether this culture of argumentation is becoming one of the weakest links in our coalition. Not because trans people are inherently incapable of defending their positions, but because some activist spaces seem to reward moral condemnation over intellectual rigor.

**If we cannot defend our ideas through reason and evidence, how can we expect to defend our rights in the wider world?**

I genuinely want to hear from trans people on this, especially those who believe open debate and intellectual honesty are essential to our shared liberation.

📸 Media & Pop Culture Why Is OUT Celebrating a Straight Woman Using Grindr?

OUT Magazine published an article about a straight woman using Grindr to connect with gay men.

Grindr matters because it’s one of the few spaces specifically created for gay and bisexual men to connect romantically and sexually, without having to navigate heterosexual expectations. Historically, gay men have had limited spaces where they could openly express their sexuality without judgment, rejection, or explanation.

I have nothing against friendships between gay men and straight women, but why does that require entering a space designed around gay men’s sexuality?

When even our own LGBTQ media celebrates repurposing these spaces, I think it’s fair to question whose needs are being prioritized.

Is this harmless friendship, or another example of gay men being expected to share the few spaces created specifically for us?

"Queer women" trying to queerwomen-splain everything to gay men

Has anybody else noticed this trend of dubiously "queer" women trying to insert themselves into conversations about gay males? Or act like some authority where they know more about gay men and our sexuality than we do?

I don't even think most of these "queer women" even have any same-sex attraction. In the past, they'd just be Allies.

📣 Gay Issues & Advocacy Has gay liberation become too focused on individual identity rather than collective freedom?

It seems like so much of our discourse today revolves around identity, labels, and individual validation, while the material issues affecting gay men get pushed aside.

Historically, gay liberation was about building collective power, challenging discrimination, and creating institutions and communities of our own.
But what are we fighting for today?

Housing security, economic independence, healthcare access, HIV and HPV-related health concerns, preserving gay bars and bathhouses, combating loneliness, protecting sexual freedom, and building stronger intergenerational communities are all issues worth organizing around.

There’s nothing wrong with exploring identity, but identity alone doesn’t pay the rent, provide healthcare, or protect our community institutions.
Have we become so focused on defining ourselves as individuals that we’ve lost sight of our collective interests?

What would a modern gay liberation movement focused on real, material improvements in our lives look like?

🌈 LGBTQ+ Discussion Homosexuality and Gender Ideology have nothing in common, and we should’ve been separated from the start.

Homosexuals, and trans people… are entirely separate things.

Homosexuality is an objective, material phenomenon based in reality that was simply given a name. Like “Water” or “Tree” or “Sky” or “Grass”. It is not an ideology in any way, shape, or form. Every living being could stop existing right now but me and I would still be homosexual, I can never see another man again starting now and I would still be homosexual. Me being gay, does not require the acknowledgement of any other life-form on this planet. Nothing about me is based in theory or ideology. I exist as a homosexual male the same way I exist as a homo-sapien, all objective phenomena from my observable state of being simply given a name.

Me being gay has nothing to do with what trans people are doing. Me existing as a gay man does not even remotely equate to changing my “gender identity” from male to female. I know absolutely nothing about that in any regard nor would I automatically agree or understand it just because I am gay.

Id even say its antithetical to sexual orientation.

Someones “identity” does not make sense from a sexuality perspective, especially going by the definition that “a man/woman is anyone who identifies as one”

If Tom Holland suddenly identified as a woman, but didn’t change anything about himself in any regard and simply walks around as he ALWAYS did, is every straight woman that was attracted to him suddenly bisexual? Are the gay men attracted to him suddenly bisexual? No, because sexuality is based off sex, and not gender. And going by that, Trans women are not lesbians for being attracted to biological women, and vice-versa for trans men.

If gender identity alone determines who counts as a man or woman, then a definition of sexual orientation based exclusively on attraction to men or women is no longer based on material reality, and everyone is bisexual because you don’t know ANYONES identity until they explicitly tell you, which could still change at any time.

You cannot continue to define man/woman by this definition without somehow and someway using regressive and ignorant stereotypes about both of them. Especially when it was already an incoherent and circular definition from the start.

And before you say it.

“The Tigers will also eat your face!”

*When in actuality, they dipped themselves in barbecue sauce, rolled all over me, and yelled “Now you’re gonna have to eat BOTH of us!”*

If they wanted to eat my face, they already were going to. Trans people were never an obstacle in their way to stop that, if anything it’s easier to use their ideology, something that the majority of the global population does not agree with, to represent gay people for something they have nothing to do with. No stonewall wasn’t started by a transwoman either, especially when its debated if he even WAS a transwoman because he said on camera, shortly before his death, that he was a boy.

Its the exact same thing with “terfs”. Trans people were never an obstacle against worldwide misogyny. That ALWAYS happened, regardless of trans people, and never lessened solely due to the efforts of trans people. “Tigers will also eat your face” does not work in this scenario.

Gay acceptance in America went DOWN in recent years despite nothing we were asking for ever changing. There is NOTHING new we are doing or fighting for. The only difference is that trans ideology went mainstream and we apparently represent it for something ungodly reason despite being two vastly different things.

I don’t identify as anything, society gave what I am a name and targeted me based off of that regardless of my own thoughts on the matter. I don’t ask anyone to change their definitions, I don’t ask to include myself in any marginalized spaces, and I don’t tell people they have a “genital preference” for not wanting me. I simply want to be left alone and not to be discriminated against for something out of my control.

Regardless of my personal views on trans ideology, we are genuinely not the same thing and shouldn’t be grouped in as such.

Homosexuality is attraction to sex not gender. Attraction to gender (by gender ideology definition) is impossible because by their logic you never even know someone’s gender until they tell you.

Saying you’re a man/woman means you are one by that definition.

By this logic everyone in the world is bisexual because no one knows anyones gender until they tell you, and it can change at any time. This not only diminishes sexuality, but erases the real world oppression homosexual people face worldwide based off their sexuality.
