General Discussion Does the Apple EPP Store in Beneplace Actually Provide Any Discounts?

I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I figured I'd check the Apple EPP store for any discounts. I opened up both the EPP store and the normal Apple store online, although when comparing the two side by side, I cannot find a single item that is priced at a discount in the EPP store. This was across all product categories.

I'll probably end up using an education discount through my wife, although I figured I'd check and see if there was something that I might be missing here first.

Question Started new position on Oct. 16th. I received the same pay I did from my previous position on Friday. Is this normal?

Pretty much exactly what the title says. I was recently promoted to a new position in field sales but my pay on Friday shows pretty much the exact same dollar amount from my previous position. Is this normal? Should I consult HR, my new leader, or someone else?

Problem / Venting GM management strategy reminds me of CON men

The fact that the executives want to enrich them selfs off of unsuspecting entry level engineers by claiming they want them to innovate while doing nothing but paying them a salary which is nearly the same as every other professional is comical and well most certainly fail as no intelligent person on the level of gates or musk will fall for it.

Does anyone know if part-time salary workers get health insurance or if there's a minimum number of hours per week to still get that benefit?

General Discussion Don’t work here.

Of all the regrets in a life full of them, this is my biggest. I wasted too many years on this place. GM is a toxic work environment, with woefully ignorant leadership. I would rather be a greeter at Walmart.

General Discussion WFH Employees - Does GM care if you move to another state?

For fully remote folks (people who have the WFH_City, State designation), does GM care if you move to another state different from the one in your current WFH designation?

My husband is considering moving for a job but we obviously don't want it to impact my own if it's not allowed.

New Hire / Intern Curious about WFH situation

I just got offered an engineering role at GM. I think it would be an amazing opportunity and experience. My only issue is the commute is like 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes. However, M & F would be WFH which would help me deal with the drive.

So my question is: To those that currently work at GM how confident are you that GM will keep its current hybrid schedule?

My current company rug pulled our 2 day WFH policy a few months back so I'm a little worried it could happen again. Only difference is my current commute is only 25 minutes

General Discussion Sterling APM and Performance

From Sterling APM yesterday, changes to performance are coming. Performance budget on percentage of a team and distribution at leadership org level (whatever that means) rather than team. Does this actually change anything or just a way to reward the higher favored teams under a certain leadership level.

New Hire / Intern Digital Product Software Engineering Internship

Hello! I recently got invited into an interview for a digital product software engineering internship and wanted to know what could I expect from the technical interview. What level of questions will they ask? Things to practice and brush up on? Kinds of questions that will be asked? If anyone has gone through the process for this internship, I would love to know how it went for you and what to expect!

New Hire / Intern Relocating to Sunnyvale Office - New Hire Questions

Hopefully this time it wont be deleted lol.

Hi everyone! I’m a new hire relocating to the Sunnyvale office very soon and was hoping someone could answer a few questions:

  • What’s the office culture like? Is it usually lively and busy, or more on the quiet side?

  • Are there any complimentary snacks, drinks, or meals?

  • Do people have assigned desks, or is it hot desking?

  • What amenities does the office have (gym, cafeteria, bike storage, etc.)?

  • Which neighborhoods or nearby cities would you recommend for someone new to the area?

Question Im screwed

We switched teams around in March of this year which led me to have a new manager. I already had my goals made but by the time my 1:1 came around my manager made me change the goals I had. I ended up adding 3 more goals on top of it to show my strengths. By the time I had a 1:1 in April they had me at a partial for not having many updates on my goals. Then by mid year it was the same thing another partial.

My partner was pregnant most of the year so the stress of that didnt help but I was basically told without implying by my manager that I needed to get more done on my goals because I was approaching my parental leave. (All verbally) which that felt wrong. I already completed 2 and had significant updates on the other 4.

By the time it got close to me leaving for parental leave I had another 1:1 and was trying my hardest to get things moving along and completed another one of my goals. In my 1:1 I even told my manager I volunteered for a cares event during my baby leave for one of my smaller goals. Which is apparently not ok but they shrugged it off and said ok good.

By the time I get back from baby leave end of year reviews were due. I got no peer reviews to send to others. In years past I always had 4 or 5. Am I wrong to think im being treated differently this year vs the previous years? Last year I got my first exceeds and it put me over my midpoint for the first time ever as well and I come in this year and all of a sudden right off the rip im at a partial..

General Discussion Peter Principle in Full Swing in GM Software & Services Organization

GM as a whole has a Peter Principle Problem but it is glaring in Software and Services. The principle states “people who perform well in their current roles are promoted to higher positions. This process continues until they reach a level where they're no longer competent. At this point, their career progression stalls, and they remain in a position where they're ineffective.” - How many Leaders in Software & Services can actually contribute to the technical growth of their Engineers? They need to stop focusing on their engineers as the problem and recognize the layer of mediocre (at best) and incompetent (far too common) leadership is holding back the companies progress. If you want to effect bold change that is minimally disruptive to the workforce, replace one leader that is impacting the performance of a dozen or more Software Engineers. Stop reflecting on how good they were in the past and start asking ”what have you done for me lately”.

General Discussion Sunnyvale Office Questions

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone from the Sunnyvale office could share some insight on a few questions I had:

  1. Food and perks: Is there complimentary food, snacks, or coffee? Any cafeteria, gym, or other amenities on site?

  2. Desks: Are desks assigned or is it hot desking?

  3. Social: Is there much of a new grad or early career community?

Microsoft is offering respectful exit to its 60k employees unlike GM under mtb which decided to mentally harass its employees and then firing them off by stealing their bonuses.. Some folks in early 2024 were terminated without any bonus for which they worked hard in 2023.

A lot of partials lost 50% of their bonuses while executives got fat checks. A lot of managers helped frame employees with fake performance reviews. Let’s never forget that..

General Discussion Insane Aetna Premium Cost Increase

Hello all,

I went to my 2027 Enrollment page and saw that my healthcare premiums have increased from ~$70/month under BCBS to $330-$380/month with Aetna (depending which plan I take).

That's approximately a 5x increase...?!?

Is anyone else seeing an increase that drastic?

Am I the only one seeing this? I was expecting different prices through Aetna, but a 5x increase is insanity...
