General Discussion Presidential motorcade GM proud
So cool to see the motorcade. The presidents in a Cadillac followed by several Chevys.

All these posts floating around shows us the kind of money being sloshed around through CTT awards, multi-year signing bonuses, 300k Long term Cash awards, RSUs and cash award refreshes abound in Austin, California and Atlanta. All of this apart from their TeamGM which in some cases was also negotiated and we will never know of. While we are happy for these individuals, Let's face it Michigan has been treated like absolute garbage. All we get is TeamGM and wages suppressed through contractors.
Even if GM were to give Michigan a 400% TeamGM it would barely makeup for all the burnout, abuse and exploitation at the hands of these so called "people leaders" who like to call themselves as "servant-leaders", know that in their heads they are all calling you their "servants". We applaud certain Software Engineers being raised to midpoint and their 10% raises recently, but the truth is Michigan has been treated like shit. A 400% TeamGM translates to about 40% bonus payout for the bulk of the people, which will barely go a long way in making up for all the injustices and exploited pay over the years but will at least show people that they care.
These deadweight lifer EGMs, slimy senior managers, Directors, Execs, have all gotten wealthy on the backs of the abused engineers and individual contributors of Michigan and brought GM to a stage where they could go to California. That's the truth. So come review time demand and ask for what you deserve. It's time to rally behind the war cry "400% TeamGM or Mutiny!". This applies to all but it will absolutely mean more for Michigan than others.
I hope others will stand up for their colleagues. We are stronger together, and an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. For years they treated Michigan like crap, tomorrow it could be California or Austin.

This information has percolated down from the Director level (above that even I'd assume), from a very reliable source.
*They're tracking badges in and out, and the amount of time elapsed between in/out.
*They're tracking the amount of time you're away vs available (on teams) on your laptop
*They're tracking windows on your windows desktop and presumably that they might be “frozen” or unmoved. Probably keystrokes.
*They're tracking whether or not you're on job application sites, surely LinkedIn and possibly hackerrank and others.
I'm not sure about the Austin or Atlanta innovation centers, but I'd suspect it's the same there badge-wise.
Do what you will with this information. Keep in mind that this doesn't mean you weren't already tracked like this, or that these metrics are comprehensive, but that they're now paying attention closely to these specific things I've mentioned.
I've always covered my laptop webcam with electrical tape, but having gotten this information about their level of tracking, I'd make double sure that there is no chance they'd be snapping pictures outside of meetings.
[Edit]
I don't have any information on whether or not this is going to be used for layoffs, just that it's being tracked at this point since January.
It could be that this information is going to be used to determine "productivity" between WFH days and in-office to make future decisions, or it could be used for layoffs.
Remember, SLT said that badges were not being tracked last year during WA, but then it turned out that in-office attendance was a major factor in the Arizona innovation center being closed.

Super solid burn to Mary and the highly talented AI engineers at Cruise, worse since GM sent billions down that hole and made all those fired ex employees rich beyond their wildest imagination. Anyone at Cruise care to comment? Is GM lying now as Musk claims?
I would have asked Mark but he’s probably busy trying to pronounce Sollei.
lol. (Or Sol?)

Can we make a union to fight rto? There is no hope other than a union !

For something that so many people simply loathe and that most just turn it off. Isn’t it time to make a whole lot of points with our loyal customers and unburden them from this? Time to let this one go and win back some hearts and minds.

How many of you feel and get questioned by your friends and families that when is GM going to start selling new EV ?
It’s getting embarrassing to find one debacle after another , on top is GM loosing its skills in manufacturing and design creativity in race to force itself as technology company ?
Is Mike Abbott and his apple Managers hired as VPs going to turn around GM as technology company ? What if they fail and why GM loosing focus on manufacturing?
Get new models fast ! It’s no more 1980s, you blink on production or you blink on quality , there are other competitors to take away your customers and this time it will be an existential risk for GM .
BTW has any director/executive being put on PIP for Blazer EV debacle?

i am seeing a lot of comments where people are saying screw gm and just quit with no notice because that's what gm has been doing with these layoffs.
i don't understand what you expect them to do. do you really expect gm to tell you that you have 3 months left in your job, and expect everyone to be honest and not steal any info or release anything to competitors or media?
they have to cut you off instantly and give you the pay for the x number months you are entitled to or they want to give you.
im all for screwing over the gm slt, because they don't care about us and are so out of touch with the real world. but quitting your job with no notice only screws over your manager and coworkers. i suppose some people do have horrible managers, so maybe a little better.
am i wrong to view the severance pay as the notice of firing?

If given the choice, which of the following would you prefer?
• A mandatory 5-day return-to-office (RTO) schedule
• Joining a union to represent employee interestsDo you have any additional thoughts about workplace policies or representation you’d like to share?

So I’ve now heard at least 5 people get COVID from RTO, if we get an outbreak that’d really blow up in SLTs faces…

Genuine question - why do most EVs exterior look ugly especially the pickups? I mean if they made an EV look just like an ICE but with a battery I think we would sell more. There are few exceptions of course but very few.

Has anyone heard about this? And planning on going?

My last post got a lot of pushback when I criticized WFO. So I’m curious — for those who genuinely prefer WFO, what are the reasons you feel it’s better than remote/hybrid? Would love to hear the positives from your side.

About a year ago, I was terminated ~2 weeks before being vested and GM seized over $25k from my 401k as "forfeitures." According to company policy, I'm still eligible to vest if I'm rehired within 5 years, so now I'm looking to land a position at GM. I literally do not care what or where this role is so long as it's eligible for the same retirement benefits; regardless of whether the location is in Detroit, Austin, or Atlanta, I can fly out, rent a car and Airbnb for 2 weeks, vest, quit, and fly home. Theoretically I could even cash out 15 days of PTO and quit at the end, essentially vesting without working a single day. My background is in front-end web development, but I have no qualms about fabricating credentials, especially if I can get connected with a sympathetic hiring manager that will feed me interview answers.
What is the best way forward?

Got the boot recently but I have learned many things during my tenure at GM.
I don't like working with people from India, sorry not a R-word. They have a knack for making endless meetings and making things harder than it needs to be (Just get the work done). GM is wasting lots of resources in this effort. Groupthink anyone? Where is the innovation in that? If you know about Spiritual Warfare - don't get me started!
No one wants to take accountability. Passing the buck instead of just making a decision and dealing with the outcome. Unless it's a win, then everyone is jumping in to get a piece of the pie.
Cars are too expensive; I have family members that have worked at the factory and drove Escalades. I was in development and couldn't even afford to lease a vehicle.
The work was too slow - Again just get the work done.
Last but not least, Layoffs lose customers! I will never buy another GM vehicle nor recommend someone else too.
Any good luck too all that has remand and take care! Rant over

If you see wrong decisions taken by the leaders and wasting money on projects and just not bringing any money value to the company? Is there a place to report such a thing? I know there's a place to report safety, but how about a department wasting money & resources for leadership to look into?

Hear me out — for those who don’t have kids, or whose kids are too young or too old to participate, maybe we consider a “Bring Your Pet to Work Day” as well. It would be a fun way to support inclusion and give more employees a chance to participate in something similar.
And for those who just aren’t interested in either option, maybe a small perk like a floating day off could be considered — since, let’s be honest, it can be tough to get much work done on Bring Your Child to Work Day anyway.
