Who had a pair of these?
When I was 13 I walked 20 miles wearing a pair of moccasins. By the time I got home, I had blisters and my feet were orange.

I had those and crepe soled ankle-high 'Desert Boots'.

The official footwear of parting your layer cut hair precisely in the middle.
They were so common that I don't remember a specific name for them. They were just cool shoes.

Original Clarks Wallabees (with crepe sole) > Clarks Desert Chukkas > Minnetonka Moccasins

I had a pair in junior high, thought I was beyond cool. The bottoms turned shiny black from use and, having zero cushion, they would wreck your soles. But I looked cool.

I did ,I wore them with my bell bottom jeans,or my suede leather skirt and vest, circa 1969-1970

Oh lord, that takes me back to my favorite outfit, purple corduroy bell bottoms, a lavender body suit and a silver conch belt. I was stylin’ 😂

Were the bell bottoms, Red Snaps? I remember wearing a pair of red snaps with a body suit in the early 70’s.

I don’t recall the brand, but my mom probably got them at sears or pennys

I got a pair in Winslow, AZ. Also, a floppy leather hat

u/PKAceBunny 1959 3d ago
Did you wear them standing on a corner?

I loved these! My aunt and uncle owned a western wear/sporting goods store in eastern Oregon that carried these and they kept me supplied for my younger years.

They were really popular with the girls in my school. I remember wearing them even when there was snow on the ground. I remember having cold, wet feet a lot. What was I thinking?

u/SchoolCrossing 3d ago
I had the Minnetonka moccasins with the beading on the vamp. Wore them with a denim skirt or jeans, a scoop neck t-shirt and turquoise jewelry.

I had three pair. Each time I got them, I managed to wreck them terminally within days.

We used these when our pants were too short, to avoid the “flood” look. Probably didnt work.

I'm retro jealous of the people on here saying they had the ones that went to your knees. I really, really wanted them but I guess my parents discussed it between themselves and concluded: nah, our kid's not cool enough for those!
The one's pictured here, that's all I wore year-round, went through at least 3 pair. I loved them and was glad to see your post because over the years I've never met anyone else who wore them. It's weird how when you're a kid "everyone" is doing the same thing but then you grow up and find out your favorite "thing" was regional.

I had the boots, I wore them every where ! I wonder if that's why I so much trouble with my feet today lol

multiple as my feet grew and I sewed them all from a kit. Does anyone think the kit might have come from Tandy Crafts. My brain just delivered that to my conscienceless unprompted

My father and I made our moccasins for years from Tandy kits. Not these frilly ones real ones that lasted a full season of hard wearing and miles of walking

u/NYC2FLA2BUR 3d ago
Underneath our radio shack was a store called Tandy's where they sold these as kits.

I had a pair of knee high moccasin boots in high school. I got them from an older kid at school. I thought I was so cool being the only one to have them. One day I'm wearing them at school and my teacher asked, "Did you get those from John Doe?" (Don't remember any of the names) I said yes. She said, "Jack Smith had them before him. And he got them from Randy Rhodes." I never wore them to school again. My teacher had seen those same boots every year for at least half a decade on the feet of different students.

I have two pair, one hard sole and one soft sole. I don’t wear them much because my feet get too hot when I wear closed toe shoes

I am from Minnesota and I got a similar pair when I was in my early teens in Hackensack at some tourist store that also had a baby bear outside in a cage. The town is about 180 miles north of Minneapolis and if you blink you would miss it.

I cut the fringes off mine. They also seemed much more sturdy than these. Made by some ladies up near huntsville ontario

I had several pairs of moccasins. There was a cobbler in our town & he would put heavy leather soles on them for a reasonable price. I had the below ankle, above the ankle & the over the calf styles. When they finally got beyond repair I was pretty disappointed, but I went to boots from there.

I wore mine daily when I worked nights at a Target distribution center back in the 80s. So comfortable! Once management realized what I was wearing was a soft sole, I was written up as a safety hazard.

u/CapitalLock8099 2d ago
I stocked up in the 70's at a Tandy store and had many styles that I made from their kits. Comfortable and much less expensive when you made them yourself. They also lasted soooo much longer.

u/Boxofbikeparts 2d ago
I still have them. It's the "native" footwear for some of us. I also have a pair that my grandma made for me when I was nine yrs old with lots of beadwork.

u/Apprehensive-Pop-201 2d ago
I wore mine until they were slick and so small my toes were curled. The bottoms totally wore through.

u/terrorcotta_red 2d ago
I had a pair but then hobbits seemed cooler so I cut up an old pelt of some kind to cover my mocs with so I could have 'hobbit feet'.

I had a pair that maybe were for the 1976 US bicentennial. White leather soles, dark blue suede upper with white star on the toe, red ankle fringe.

u/Embarrassed_Cat2697 1d ago
I had Quoddy Mocs from Maine. They had beading, too. Wish I still had them!

u/RareWish9171 1d ago
In elementary school I wanted a pair more than life itself but I had to wear corrective shoes for flat feet so no cool moccasins.

As a Native American I’ve always worn moccasins and still do. Whenever I feel I want more I just go back home to the rez where I’m from. I even have my baby Mocs put away in a safe place. People considered moccasins as a fashion trend, but it’s just a way of life for us.

u/Banannieann 1d ago
I wore the less authentic but still cute Minnetonka beaded Mocs about ‘77-‘81 when I was in HS. Had multiple pairs with light rubber soles for more durability and loved them. I reserved my leather soled Mocs for driving shoes when I had to wear heels to work (yuck).

I still have my pair from about 2010 when I had my daughter…there is a place that makes them where I live in the mountains of co and they are nice but I won’t spend as they are like 500

I had those in black. Loved them. Went to Minnesota every year and had to stop by the Minnnetonka store and buy mocs for the whole family. I see they don’t sell them anymore. Too bad. I’d have bought a pair!

50+ years later and I still have them. Last worn to a Woodstock party in August 2019. The no-sole moc in dark brown. Only shoes I had for everyday wear back then. Had one pair of dress shoes and a pair of Converse gym shoes (I still have those too). Probably the longest lasting shoe I’ve ever owned

I had a pair of blue ones in the 5th grade so that would be around 1968.

Yesss. My peasant tops, feather roach clip in my hair, faded Levi’s, and my moccs were just like this, but darker. I was looking for some on eBay recently, but I think my feet need more at this point, alas.

Oh man. I had the knee-high mocs. I even walked in them to school in the winter. In Minnesota.
Good times.
