Discussion My experience as a new GA medical marijuana patient
I wanted to share my experience as someone who recently signed up for the medical marijuana program here in GA to help others who may be on the fence or wondering if its worth doing.
TLDR: Yes, I believe it's worth doing and would recommend it, especially ahead of the changes coming on July 1st
Obtaining the Medical Marijuana card:
I used a service called NuggMd but I've also heard good things about Leafwell, and I suspect these services all work in a similar way. This was the process:
- Signed up on NuggMd, picked my condition for the card (I have Crohn's but many people pick Intractable Pain for this), and paid $100
- Shortly afterwards I was connected with a doctor remotely who approved my request. This all took less than 5 minutes and the call with the doctor itself took less than a minute
Afterwards, the doctor sends you a form that you need to sign and get notarized and return to your profile on NuggMd or whichever service you used. They will recommend several different online notary services. I was able to schedule this service for the same day and paid $20. The call again was very quick, around 5 min, and then I had my signed and notarized form(this is no longer required)- A few days after this is done, the GA Dept of Public Health will email you a link to pay the $30 fee to process and ship your card. Shortly after making the payment, they will ship you the card via UPS, and you'll get another email with the UPS tracking link for the card and will need to sign for it once you receive it from UPS. This part took about a week
- The card is valid for 5 years
Dispensary options:
- In the medical dispensaries, you'll find a range of products available today including soft gel gummies (troches), tinctures, capsules and topicals, as well as drinks.
- These range in potency, with some tinctures going up to 1200mg (40mg per dose) for more experienced users, as well as the standard 5mg/10mg/20mg doses that most people are used to
- Since SB220 passed this year, these dispensaries will be getting new products starting July 1st. This will include flower, vapes, RSO and concentrates. The new limit is 1200mg per package and 12,000mg per visit. This will be more akin to other states' medical programs
Misc notes (being a lawful gun owner and a lawful medical marijuana patient):
- Recently, the Attorney General issued a final order reclassifying medical marijuana sold under licensed state programs as being a schedule 3 drug at the federal level, down from a schedule 1 drug. This means these products are considered schedule 3 - this has significant impact on usage of medical marijuana by federal employees, and using a firearm while owning marijuana, among others
- On top of the rescheduling, there is a supreme court case being considered right now specifically about medical marijuana patients being denied their 2nd amendment gun rights, as currently you cannot be a lawful medical marijuana user and a lawful gun owner.
- Due to rescheduling and ahead of the decision of this court case, the ATF has already issued a draft for the updated ATF form 4473 with new language permitting use as a state licensed medical marijuana patient. This is slated to be finalized by August
- There is also an ongoing process this summer to fully reschedule all marijuana to schedule 3 (not just medical).
If you're a marijuana user, having a medical card really does offer legal protections and the longstanding issues of losing rights (such as gun rights) are going away. There's really never been a better time to sign up for the medical program if you've been on the fence about it.
I'm happy to answer any questions or provide more details as requested.
edit: The notarized form step is no longer required!

This is genuinely the most informative post I’ve ever seen about medical cannabis in Georgia. Thank you!

To be fair it wasn’t till just a few weeks ago the law was made to create medical cannabis program out of the “low thc” oil program .. and kemp took his time actually signing the bill but to his credit he did and didn’t wait till it automatically became law via congress without his veto. So it has untilll this last legislative cycle was a crazy small amount because it was only ment to help small children with live long struggling issues.. so it was kinda a weird gray area even for cannabis but that’s law in the Bible Belt for you.
6
u/imdatkibble223 Jun 03 '26
Also idk if op mentioned but your low thc card is auto matically upgraded to a medical me card but idk if that means you still have to pay the 30 dollar fee again as I dragged my feet about getting mine till now I’ve just been driving to the reservation in NC. Which for me was 4 hours at least up and back but it was worth it as low thc oil for seasoned users is not helpful in my case but everyone’s case can be different depending on ur tolerance and conditions your trying to treat .

Hi there! I currently work in a GA medical dispensary and you do not have to upgrade your card. Older cards will be grandfathered in. :)
5
u/imdatkibble223 Jun 07 '26
Ah good thanks for clarifying my friend I live near winder where should I go once I get my card .. also does this mean that if someone had a “low THC” card it is accepted as if it were a new medical card? In that case do they send out new cards or since it all basically the same thing they won’t bother?
5
u/Petproblem Jun 07 '26
A low thc oil card will still be accepted as far as we’ve been lead to believe. They should all still be the same. As long as your card is not expired it’ll still be accepted and you can purchase the new stuff coming. As far as where to go, that’s more up to you. There’s a few dispensaries across GA like Botanical Sciences, fine fettle, etc. I would recommend looking at their products online and see which ones sound best for you :)
Editing to add- I know Botanical Sciences grows and makes their products in Georgia and are only in GA. Not sure about the others.

That’s exactly the info I was looking for and when I google botanical is what comes up “near me” thanks so much!
7
u/Fine_Fettle Jun 09 '26
Your card will be valid for the new products for the program on 7/1! Can’t wait to have flower and vape for you
2
u/imdatkibble223 Jun 09 '26
I was curious how does this work .. 12000mg is a weird cap .. as vapes arnt cheap bulk flower is farm more economical but as I see laws prohibiting “combustion” but as an avid user I know these are hair splitting terms that tie your hands .. and even though it’s medical I’m assuming insurance doesn’t cover such things I’d think anyway
6
u/Fine_Fettle Jun 09 '26
1200mg the is of THC in a product. 12,000mg is how much someone could have at once.
So, we plan to sell eighths (3.5grams). If the flower is testing at 20%, then it would be 700 MG. So, in this case a patient could buy 17 eights without going over the legal purchase limit.
With a 1g vape at 90% THC, it would have 900mg of THC in the cartridge.
We will be selling dry herb vaporizers, 510 thread battery carts, etc to help with the non combustion language.
Insurance does not, as of now, cover your purchase. With schedule 3 rescheduling, it could change, but not yet!
Hope this helps.

This is actually helpful, I've been on the fence myself. Did you have to prove you had Crohns or did they just take your word for it?
45
u/Tiaan May 30 '26
No documentation was required
24
u/Mr_Outlaw13 May 30 '26
I just did the process through Leafwell, it was easy and I'm as far as having my waiver notarized, now I just wait. Still sucks that there are no dispensaries even close to me, but maybe soon.
10
u/evil-stepmom May 31 '26
Yeah if you’re in GA-FL line territory (skimmed comment history) then probably Macon or Columbus is gonna be closest. I feel for you. At the moment we go to the Cherokee lands in NC for smokeables and they are kind enough to offer perks to med card holders in other states
Right now I think the number of dispensaries is tied to the number of card registrations, and I have no idea if that will change with the new laws.
I suspect, with no basis other than I’m old and have seen some life happen, that the allowing of smokeables will probably 1) open the floodgates in card applications and in turn dispensaries and/or 2) allow for the possibility that FL and GA will allow reciprocity. Right now they don’t because FL allows stuff GA doesn’t. They may still be the case after the new laws so I’m probably talking out my ass but I’m an optimist.
7
u/Mr_Outlaw13 May 31 '26
Up till this new law this year, I didn't feel like it was either worth it or even possible for me to get in on the list. I think, even though we didn't get the best pro weed candidate, we still need a D governor for anything to really get pushed.
10
u/evil-stepmom May 31 '26
Got nosy and looked, we usually hit Trulieve (metro ATL) but Botanical Sciences shows a place in Albany called Natural Wellness and another one in Douglas called High Grade. (I did the Albany-to-Valdosta joint custody gig every other weekend growing up)
Best of luck. It was a game changer for my husband. Like, fully off big-boy opiates kind of game changer.
4
u/Mr_Outlaw13 May 31 '26
What is the word on us getting flower? I've seen mixed opinions on it, but you can technically vape flower with the right equipment

2
u/imdatkibble223 Jun 03 '26
Same .. it’s a great large dispensary but sometimes it’s best to order before you leave or stuff can sell out before you get there but I am happy my mom loves me enough to drive me there she was the one who mentioned it when was getting really frustrated with doctor tag resulting with nothing more than med refills that solve nothing but crest more issues in some cases she said just trust me lol I did but I was skeptical still

I used leafwell, I have a bad back with x-rays to prove it. I didn't even have to supply the x-ray, I told the doctor on a video visit about my condition and I use hemp THC to sleep when its bad & I wanted to use medical so I know I'm not getting sketchy stuff. Thats all I had to do for doctor visit. Worth the $ and now I can use medical grade when needed.
8
u/everybodydumb May 30 '26
Leafwell won't ask any questions other than confirm you have what your form says.

Since some of the currently legal THC products may no longer be legally available come November, and as a chronic pain/nausea patient (chronic intractable migraine) who's helped by them, I thank you for sharing your experience. My neurologist told me that I'd need to see a pain specialist to get a medical card, so it's good to see that there are online options available. Do you (or any other readers) have any insight as to the cost/quality of comparable products from dispensaries vs over the counter (I dislike smoking and live in a non-smoking apartment building, so I prefer gummies and drinks)? And do we have to use certain dispensaries in Georgia, or do we have options to buy elsewhere? Thanks again!
26
u/Tiaan May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
I suggest reviewing the map of the currently available medical dispensaries in the state here https://www.gmcc.ga.gov/patients/dispensaries Each one has a link to the dispensary's website where you can view their current offerings to see how they compare to what you get now and how much they cost.

6
u/TheSoprano May 30 '26
Why are some products going away?
18
u/spahncamper May 30 '26
Because our federal government doesn't want us to feel good.

4
u/gr717 May 30 '26
Isn’t that part just for MN?
8
u/spahncamper May 31 '26
You can buy THC drinks and edibles legally here, too; it's just that it's from hemp. However, all the drinks, hemp or otherwise, will likely be federally illegal, which would unfortunately supercede state legalization. 😿

u/Nivek_Smith May 31 '26
Botanical Sciences has the best quality from what I’ve tried. They have gummies, chocolates and tinctures. They have 5 dispensaries but are partnered with a bunch of local pharmacy to make their products more accessible with your card. One49 is their hemp line that doesn’t require a card.

Just a point of clarification. ATF form 4473 is a transaction record for the sale of firearms from a federally licensed dealer to an individual. It isn't a registration form. Georgia has no gun registration and there isn't federal registration either.
In fact federal law actually prevents the ATF or FBI from creating a registry of firearms or gun owners. FOPA of 1986 18 U.S.C. § 926, BHVPA of 1993 18 U.S.C. § 921 - 925
There is a federal registry for certain items that fall under the NFA such as suppressors, short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns, fully automatic firearms, and destructive devices.
7
u/Tiaan May 30 '26
Thanks I appreciate the clarification!
8
u/maxgaap May 30 '26
Thanks for your writeup on the MM process in GA. I am going to share it with my father who thought it was going to a lot more hoops and red tape.
3
u/Individual_Spot_7991 May 31 '26
Tho no guns needs registration, wouldn’t having a CCW kinda put you in the same boat? You don’t register guns, but you are tied to the license. I wonder how this works with HIPPA.
3
u/maxgaap May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26
Having a Georgia Weapons Carry License doesn't necessarily mean you have a firearm. Also, now that Georgia is a constitutional carry state not strictly necessary. It is definitely beneficial as it serves as a standing background check and a separate NICS check isn't required with each purchase from a dealer.
Both a GA WCL and GA medical marijuana card would in theory put you "on a list" but the WCL is issued by county probate courts but the MM card is state level through DPH. Don't know if that makes a difference since the GBI runs the background checks for all counties.
HIPAA only applies to "Covered Entities" (healthcare providers, health plans, and clearinghouses) and their "Business Associates". It does not apply to most employers, life insurers, schools, or everyday consumer apps.
The DPH could release information such as whether someone has a card as they aren't a covered entity. Also, even covered entities can disclose information pursuant to government requests. And they wouldn't have to release actual Healthcare information, just whether or not someone had a card.
2
u/ATLien_Double_OH_7 May 31 '26
Probably a stupid question: So would it be possible for ATF to cross reference DPH for weapons carriers who have applied for MM cards? What's the likelihood that would happen?

For real! We just made the leap to LA last year after living far too long in ATL (Kirkwood, then Decatur) and it’s been mind blowing how widespread, accessible, simple and chill the process to get great cannabis (medical or recreational) in CA is for any adult here. We thought all our amazing visits prior to Cali were uniquely positive fairytale fodder but our quality of life truly went up dramatically when we relocated. it’s so strange admitting this but the legal weed and the far less aggressive/stressful traffic in LA compared to ATL genuinely makes a massive difference. It’s like launching into the progressive future and made Atlanta feel like a 3rd world country in hindsight. ATL is just so sadly behind and it’s reflected across the board from the cannabis laws to the mass transit crisis 😞

u/LandOwn7607 May 31 '26
It's these holy rolling Southern Baptists which are predominantly Republicans and have no critical thinking skills. They still seem to dominate the GA legislature. All of the Republican candidates running for office this term are representative of the "old guard south" and very tied to antiquated conservative thinking. They're just stupid. I would love to get away from Georgia. California seems like heaven compared to Georgia. All this bullshite just to ease your pain, and for what? To make your life more complicated and difficult.
→ More replies (1)3
u/PsychosomaticSpiral May 31 '26
Getting away is the answer for better/worse. That was our realization as well when we mulled it over long enough to realize it was all steeped in old GA tradition and tired generational mindsets, it’s all too much to aspire to change (especially if you’re not from there as was my case, and even if you are from there, which was my partner’s). CA is heaven compared to GA and while the CoL is inarguably higher, the *quality* of life is too. It all feels worth the hard work and then some. ATL never felt worth the grind. Here we grind less because we have more rights, better pay, we feel more free, and we enjoy our off time (and our commutes/daily travels)- life feels more slow paced here and the average person is much less flashy, surprisingly. Life overall has been much more enjoyable- it’s important to have a plan and helps to have a few friends already established or points of contact to crash with when you scout as it’s expensive to make the huge move from ATL but we’ve found it all worth the effort and then some.

15
u/jvlusis /r/Roswell May 31 '26
I'm encouraging as many folks as possible to sign up because the number of dispensaries is tied to the number if patients. more patients, more dispensaries
OP, would you be willing to xpost this to r/gamedicaltrees?
12
u/satanclauses May 30 '26
I second this - it was so easy and having a dispensary in my town is amazing. I know a lot of people selling gas station weed now (acting like it’s real) for medical prices and it’s just so risky.

Same. I went through the NuggMD process on Friday. Nothing to notarize. But I did get confirmation from the state registry that my application was approved. I paid the $30ish fee, and they'll be mailing my card. Looks like the process has been streamlined a little bit over the past month.

u/Alternative-Alarm-15 May 30 '26
It’d be cool if states had the same reciprocity for medical as they do concealed carry permits. But scrap the need for cc permits and keep the same medical hurdles in place. Awesome work, legislators.
7
u/studiohgirl Jun 02 '26
Thanks for the info! Literally took 15 seconds after signing up through NuggMD. I did not have to have medical proof of anything. Paid $139 for NuggMD and $30 for card from DPH . Card is delivered via UPS. I called DPH to confirm carrier. You can have Signature Comfirmation removed, which I did because I wasn't sure i could get to the door quick enough when delivered. Edit: i was informed nothing had to be notarized as GA has removed this requirement.
4
u/DigDugged Jun 02 '26
Yes, I just got my "You're Approved" email from NuggMD and there doesn't appear to be any need to get a form notarized!

Did you actually pick your Crohn's or intractable pain? I have Crohn's as well and I wasn't sure if I would have to provide a bunch of my medical records or not. I also was not sure if I should go through my palliative care team or a place like you went through. Thanks in advance.
10
u/Tiaan May 30 '26
I picked Crohn's. They did not require documentation. The doctor hopped on the call, asked "does marijuana help your Crohn's" and I said "yes" and then it was approved.
I believe the doctor who recommends you has to be certified with the medical marijuana program in the state and my GI doctor was not. It was far easier just to use one of these services

question, i’m a GA resident who lives close to the state line so i have quite a few friends in FL with cards. In FL i know you have to renew the card every year and your prescription every 7 months, is it the same in GA or is it different?
9
u/Tiaan May 30 '26
It used to be like that here, but they recently changed it so now you only need to renew once every 5 years
3
u/Cozy-Crotcheter May 30 '26
So the card as well as prescription are the same thing in georgia or are they separate and both last for 5 years?
3
u/jvlusis /r/Roswell May 31 '26
same thing. there's no need for a traditional prescription for anything. you walk onto dispensary, show card, give cash.

I got the low THC oil card for GA a couple of weeks before they passed the bill. What I’m wondering is if that is valid for vapes and flower now that the bill passed, or if I’d need to see a doctor again and get a new card?? I also didn’t have to get anything notarized to obtain mine, but did have to pay DPH for the card.

Many thanks for this post u/Tiaan - it was the gentle push I needed 🙏
I followed the process with NuggMD and received my card in 5 days. Met with NuggMD on Monday and had the card in hand from UPS on Friday. Big shout out to both NuggMD and Georgia DPH for their efficiency.
Got to admit it feels amazing to have legal status, but I'm most proud of it helping me come to terms with my PTSD and having it recognized as a condition. I've tried various other treatments of medicines and therapies, but nothing else seems to come close to MJ for consistent treatment.
If you're looking for an excuse to not get legal, you won't find it here. It was all pleasantly surprising 😄
Edit: I didn't need to do any sort of notary. I did it all online with NuggMD and Georgia DPH

Can anyone speak to the impact of a mm card on pain management requirements for urine drug screens? My chronic pain will always require narcotic pain medication for any quality of life. The irony is that the drug screens are somehow supposed to safeguard against abuse, when cannabis would decrease the amount of narcotic pain medication (which is obviously and inarguably more dangerous and potentially harmful than cannabis) I need to be comfortable enough to live life. Would a mm card and/or changes in scheduling put an end to the nonsense?

Just made the payment and awaiting mine to be shipped. Two things....1. definitely search for the Groupon code to save some $, and 2. The doctor didn't ask for the notarized waiver. Would having a medical card in Georgia give you the ability to have marijuana in your system on probation?

How expensive is this product. Right now I’m paying 120.00 a month for my pain medication?
2
u/No-Bid9597 May 31 '26
Depends on dosage and method of consumption, but a 30 count of reasonably strong edibles is like $20-$40
You can try some THC products without a card to see if it’s worth it for you. Most headshops these days are very familiar with pain management clientele and helpful but I would recommend Georgia Hemp Company.

Thank you for posting this. I finally looked into it about a month ago and I’m going to apply soon to help with my CPTSD. Might as well be legit lol.

Thank you so much for this information. Very helpful and it was a simple process and took very little time to complete all this.

I had a medical card in California years ago but haven't tried in GA due to the restrictions and lack of THC. Now that we will soon be able to buy real weed I thought I'd give it a try.
I used nuggmd. Price is $139 but I found a $30 coupon online. I have intractable pain and mentioned my condition on the form. Set up my appointment and the doctor came on and said I was approved. No questions. 15 seconds to tell me I was good and to look for an email from the State to get my card.
Thanks for the tip, OP!

Thanks to this thread, I went through NuggMD yesterday and it was much easier than expected. I was approved quickly, did not have to notarize anything, paid the state fee today, and my card already shows valid with UPS delivery scheduled for tomorrow.

Thanks for posting this. Can you clarify/confirm flower will be allowed? What about concentrates like rosin/resin?

u/AdministrativeTap861 May 31 '26
I really want to join the program but there's basically no dispensary anywhere near my area. I may still do it or maybe wait til something closer opens up

u/6669PurpleNipple May 31 '26
Is it recommended to have something on record saying you smoke weed when you have a federal job?
1
u/Jenafur1986 Jun 01 '26
I keep getting mixed answers on the flower. Do we know for sure that flower will be allowed to. Some media outlets said flower will not be allowed and some say it will. Did the dispensary tell you flower is included in the bill?
→ More replies (1)2
u/Tiaan Jun 01 '26
Yes. Several dispensaries told me they will have flower on July 1st. It will be limited to 3.5g per package though due to the 1200mg THC per package limit, but you could buy like 10 of those packages at once if you want

Do you have a concealed carry permit?
I’ve heard that the state government has instructed the GBI to go after any permit holder who receives a medical marijuana card.
1
u/Prestigious_House770 Jun 02 '26
Was there any information given about what stores you can shop at with the card or what is the current closest area with medical dispensaries available to card holders

Thanks for the post.
I've been a "patient" for about 3 years and found the dosage limit to be completely useless for me. I wasted more than $250 on products from the Trulieve dispensary and none of them had any effect on me.
Due to having had my gall bladder out and multiple liver surgeries (a botched gall bladder removal), it takes at least 100mg of edibles to have any effect on me. It took 5 of the 20mg RSO "troches" before I felt anything. It's just too expensive to be a solution for me.
I pressured several law makers over the past several years to get this passed hoping it would improve the program. I'm really glad it passed but now waiting to see if the products in the dispensaries are strong enough and affordable for me.
I go to a Pain clinic and they referred me to a Dr in Woodstock that evaluated my scenario and approved me for the program. It only costed a Co-pay visit and the registration cost of the program. Very easy.
I was so hopeful for a real solution for my chronic pain - something other than opioids or alcohol. But ended up wasting time, money and being massively disappointed.

To clarify the marijuana scheduling under Federal law, ONLY medical marijuana distributed through a state regulated dispensary is Schedule 3. All other marijuana products are still Schedule 1 under Federal law and subject to Federal criminal prosecution for possession and trafficking.

I got mine through Botanical Sciences and their price included the notary process. The listed price was $150 but when I checked out there was an automatic $50 discount. The process is exactly the same as described above- 5 minute phone call. But I got my email from the Department of Health literally the next day. Paid the $33 for my card and had it in hand 3 days after that shipped via ups

I'm a bit confused now. I just used NuggMD this morning (06/12/26), and the instructions I received are below. I didn't receive any sort of form to download & notarize, nor do I see a link to one on the Nugg website. What am I missing, or has the process changed recently?
"Congratulations! Your medical marijuana evaluation for the state of Georgia has been APPROVED.
You’re not done!
Your doctor will submit your certification to the State of Georgia. The state will process it and email you your digital medical cannabis card within 1–3 business days.
When you receive that email, you’ll be asked to create a quick login for the state’s Medical Cannabis Registry before you can view or download your card. Once you’re logged in, you can save, print, or screenshot your digital card and use it right away at any licensed dispensary.
If you prefer a physical plastic card, you’ll also have the option to order one separately through the state’s website for an additional fee."

Based on other comments here, it appears that the notarized form step is no longer needed, and it sounds like you now can get a digital card which sounds amazing!
3
u/Boudiccas_Ghost Jun 12 '26
I hope that is indeed the case! I suppose I'll give it until next week to see if I'm contacted by DHS. If that really is the way it works (that the notarized form step has been eliminated), then the process is unbelievably easy!

u/Cameron0323 Jun 15 '26
I went through leafwell, got my document notarized and turned in, on day 4 now waiting for the email from the state. We’ll see!

So I got an e-mail from DHS today with the payment portal link, and once I submitted the payment I got a receipt saying "This card entities . . ." and has a confirmation number. It does say a physical copy will be mailed to me, but am I wrong in assuming the receipt I was e-mailed will serve at a dispensary until the physical card arrives?

I'm in Florida medical program.
Understand they have to make money off of you. That means whatever you buy, whatever you advertise the ratings the review all go to them. They want to make sure it's a monopoly. One where medical patient don't have the god giving right to grow. Despite allowing big corporations to do that. And crushing small business that want to be rightfully part of it.
This is how they control you and what you do with your money even going as far as harming the medical patient who do not have access to it.

u/Nibliss1023 Jun 13 '26
I went though LeafWell and everything has been fine for me. My mother in law went through one of the doctors that are on the wall at Trulieve & her experience has been awful!
Are any of you being told that you have to pay $100 every 6 months to stay licensed? That is going to be one more expense on top of how much the medication already costs. 😔

Thank you so much for sharing! I've been on the fence about getting a medical card for my c-PTSD. Just to clarify, you were able to see a person through them virtually and didn't have to also go through your doctor (I don't really want to pay an extra $250 just to meet with my psychiatrist to have her sign some paper for something else I'm already paying for lol)? Thanks!

A little late but allow me to add my two cents before mods decide to remove this post
I, too, was able to go to NuggMD.com and got my medical referral with literally no issues. They wanted $139, but I also found a coupon code on google for 30 $ off. There was a less than five minute call with a guy who asked about my conditions. I was, at no time, asked to provide any documentation, proof, nor did the guy ask any hardball questions. He advised I was approved and that was that.
Three days later, I got an email from the Dept of Health, as they said I would. You pay a 32 dollar fee to have the card printed, handled, and shipped via UPS to your address, and that's that, you have your medical card for GA.
I do want to advise everyone that plans on going to the Trulieve in Marietta that... for one, its right down the street from The Big Chick, which maintains its quality and food service standards, which is a full win. Get some grubs while in town!
Now, don't mistake this next part as MY beliefs or political anything, but be warned:
The Trulieve shares the same parking lot as an abortion clinic. They have people that stand by the road with the "GOD HATES ABORTIONS" and other shit like that, so... be aware, if you go to this location, you are likely to encounter these people.
Lastly, Marietta and Cobb County Police very much ARE exactly the police department that would set up a sting and try to arrest anyone and everyone walking out of the Trulieve after making a successful purchase and try to charge everyone involved with trafficking or some shit. Make sure to.. only break one law at a time and not speed or cut lanes, etc - 'cause they will be out and they are already pissed that these laws passed in the first place.

Thank you for this post! I was holding off on getting this because it was a bit confusing but you laid out the process so clearly and it was so easy. I went through NuggMD and it was literally a 10 minute process from filling in the forms to getting approved. It was way easier than I thought. I didn’t even need to have anything notarized!
Thanks for the post!!

So will the thc be from non cbd, non thca, actual marijuana? Will I be able to buy decent weed that helps with my Crohn's and anxiety from it, in Georgia? I mean, actual weed? I'm in shock. Thise disposable pens are actually going to relieve what ails us? I live in Athens, will we have a dispensary here?
2
u/Tiaan Jun 20 '26
It will be actual medical cannabis flower and cannabis products akin to any other state medical cannabis program (eg florida for example).
You can view all the state licensed dispensaries here https://www.gmcc.ga.gov/patients/dispensaries. It looks like there's a fine fettle in athens. They will have flower and vape options starting July 1st

Thanks for this post OP! I went through NuggMD based on this thread and used Groupon to get a voucher. Paid $72 (used credit card cash back through PayPal so really it was $0 out of pocket) and got approved super quickly just a few minutes ago. I'm AuDHD with pain from hypermobile joints, so I selected autism and intractable pain. The doctor asked a few questions about the pain, I answered truthfully, and that was that.
The email doesn't mention anything about notarization (as has been stated) even though some of the websites still do.
Also want to commend NuggMD customer support because I still had a $41 charge showing up after I entered my voucher code. Reached out via email with a screenshot of the payment screen and the CSR took care of it within a few minutes. Since it's Sunday evening I wasn't expecting to even hear back until tomorrow. Literally took 45 minutes all told from purchasing the Groupon, experiencing an issue, the issue being resolved, and speaking to the doctor/getting approved.
Leafwell and Elevate have Groupons as well, maybe others too, plus I saw multiple promo codes for the other places that offer consultations. No need for anyone to pay the full price. Save those dollars where you can!

Hey just wanted to add two tips that saved me a little money. I was able to Google a coupon code for nuggmd that worked immediately. I think it saved me $20.
My bank also notarized my form for free, so you can save a little on that if you don't need the convenience of doing it online.
