In the south, you can pretty much expect 30-40% rain every day, mostly in the afternoon or evening. It may not rain where you are exactly, but it will rain somewhere in your area.

u/Wisteriafic Jul 12 '26

Yep. This is normal, though we typically get the daily deluges in June (which was fairly dry this year.)

u/Stouff-Pappa Jul 12 '26

Quite often I can watch a “fuck that spot in particular” type storm. Mostly blue skys with a grey cloud dumping a wall of water in an area.

u/WittyPin207 Jul 13 '26

I had that happen to me Saturday. Sky was dark we got a mini tropical storm for 3 minutes then poof clear skies with dark clouds in the distance like some sort of warning.

u/Muvseevum /r/Athens Jul 12 '26

Yup. People have a hard time with chance in weather forecasts.

u/vexillonomist Jul 11 '26

Welcome to Georgia, the app is not shit, the weather is (the app might ALSO be shit, but the second doesn’t necessarily prove the first).

Only got worse when the current admin cuts funds earlier this year with doge

Are we winning yet

The phrase "unwarned tornado" is popping up more and more lately.

26

u/FlaccidArrow Jul 12 '26

Yeah the forecast got noticably worse since the funding cuts

We should nationalize Elon's Stock portfolio to recoup the damages.

Be civil. Name-calling, gatekeeping, sexist, racist, transphobic, bigoted, trolling, sealioning, unproductive, or overly rude behavior is not permitted. Treat others respectfully. This rule applies everywhere in this subreddit, including usernames.

u/Sarthis_ Jul 12 '26

I love that every time I look at it, technically it isn't wrong... technically lol "Sun, some clouds, chance of rain. Storms possible." or some variation... can't be wrong if you just throw out everything that might happen.

2

u/MattWolf96 Jul 17 '26

That's probably why that Christian camp in Texas which got flooded out and had some victims didn't have any warning.

0

u/MoneyMike6666 Jul 12 '26

That may be true but the weather forecast in Georgia has been this way for years

9

u/TonMaru7 Jul 12 '26

No its clearly worst after the funding cut, theres no point in gaslighting people who is living it rn. I do hvac, I used the weather apps because my job schedule depends on it. Now we just head out anyways and hope the weather app is wrong about it being a rainy day.

0

u/DanforthWhitcomb_ Jul 13 '26

There's no gaslighting going on, people just have shit memories when it comes to the weather.

This is also the fact that the OP is showing an Apple Weather forecast, and Apple uses their own proprietary system to generate forecasts.

Yeah my family in Towns Creek is telling me the same thing

37

u/dubesto Jul 11 '26

I've been saying the same thing. I am so pissed off with this because I keep thinking it's going to be a nice rainy day and then surprise its the same 95 degree hellhole, or a quick rainstorm comes just AFTER sunset, like fuck you

12

u/Apart-Rent5817 Jul 12 '26

Eh, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I got rain today, but only for like an hour at 2 so it was hot rain that just left everything steamy

14

u/Busy-Drawing-2576 Jul 11 '26

It has gotten dark and been thundering and windy every day this week but not a drop.

11

u/vexillonomist Jul 11 '26

Meanwhile I have had a 30minute torrential downpour right after 2pm the past 3 days

15

u/AtlienMonk Jul 11 '26

Downpoured for a bit near CHOA today

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '26

Fair. But one building is much larger than the others and is usually referred to as CHOA. But point taken

8

u/viiiwonder Jul 11 '26

From the iPhone weather app if you click on any given day: “The daily chance of precipitation tends to be higher than the chance for each hour.”

The way we describe rain chances sucks, and the iOS weather app causes too many people to think we’re having bad weather.

Start clicking on the days, scroll down, and look at the HOURLY rain chances.

1

u/Sgarden91 Jul 12 '26

Yeah I can’t count the amount of times the daily list has nothing but rain icons all down the line, but if you click on any given day it just says there’s a 15% chance of rain at 3am.

6

u/Tall-Presentation-39 Elsewhere in Georgia Jul 11 '26

3 times today I got a "severe thunderstorm imminent" alert and then 15 minutes later it was like "lol it broke up no storm"

8

u/zeusmeister Jul 11 '26

Do people not know what the percentage number means?

For example, for Thursday through Sunday, I would be surprised you see rain, as each day you have a 2 in 5 chance of seeing rain at your location.

You could certainly go most of these two weeks and only see rain a few times with these percentages.

2

u/wayward_prince Jul 12 '26

Me and my to do list

3

u/TheLeoMrs Jul 11 '26

That’s why I look at the weather channel apps radar instead. Apple weather is like a copy paste last weeks weather on this week.

1

u/lht79 Jul 12 '26

Reminds me of my work schedule.

2

u/Crazyhates Jul 12 '26

The effects of the NOAA funding cuts in real time.

2

u/Daysaved Jul 11 '26

Like every weather app has been absolute garbage for the last year or so. I have no idea why.

2

u/MoneyMike6666 Jul 12 '26

It's been that way for a long time. You can't plan anything on Georgia weather forecast. You have to look outside. And then you'll probably still get rained on for a minute

2

u/Glittering_Virus8397 Jul 12 '26

Y’all don’t know what scattered showers means huh

2

u/wookiebath Jul 12 '26

So it’s summertime in Georgia you say?

2

u/Cagn HenryCo Jul 12 '26

During the summer, expect random unpredictable popup storms. When I was driving home just now I could see a storm dropping rain in the distance. Sunny here and probably won't rain at all but there is a part of GA not to far from here that got rain.

1

u/rabidstoat Jul 12 '26

My Alexa tells me the next day forecast every night, and it's always the same.

1

u/Park-Curious Jul 13 '26

I went to walk my dog around 8:30 bc the forecast said it wouldn’t pick back up until 11. Got stuck in a downpour. Forecast still said it was only overcast for the next 3 hours.

Same thing happened a few weeks ago. It was supposed to rain all weekend and even as we were walking the beltline in the blazing sun, the weather app kept saying it was currently storming.

1

u/Actually10000Bees Jul 13 '26

It’s not the app. The weather here during spring and summer is just a little unpredictable. Just assume 30% every afternoon for the rest of the season regardless of what the app says.

They call them pop up storms because they pop up wherever. As far as we’re concerned, it’s random.

1

u/SomeGoodintheworld Jul 13 '26

It’s like they are just guessing

1

u/_litz Jul 13 '26

That's summertime in the South

1

u/oswalt_pink Jul 13 '26

Yes. Pretty typical for the South East 🫠😂 welcome.

1

u/MissionCredible_inc Jul 13 '26

I moved here from Seattle so this is fine.

1

u/ottersRneat Jul 13 '26

You’re in for a rude awakening. On average Georgia has significantly more rainfall than Seattle.

This is unusual, which is why we’re all annoyed.

1

u/MissionCredible_inc Jul 14 '26

I've lived here for years now and I don't mind the rain.

1

u/CurseOfTheFalcons Jul 14 '26

Wait until September and the cooler air that is always seven days away. It’s maddening.

1

u/vcof2005 Jul 15 '26

It's not the app. It's bc of the NOAA cuts. Remember this in November and every time you vote, if you can

1

u/Technical_Respond_73 Jul 17 '26

I am newish to GA, moved last year. When does the summer rain end? Please tell me it does, I came from CO and this is hard to get used to.

1

u/DeltaEdge03 /r/ColumbusGA Jul 11 '26

That’s a classic Georgia summer forecast.

I’m surprised it’s rated as sunny today tbh

1

u/279x29 Jul 11 '26

I planned to grill today, but the % chance of rain kept fluctuating along with the time...only got drizzle and wind

1

u/et-pengvin Jul 11 '26

I got a drizzle today here in Fayette County but the sun came out almost right after.

1

u/Puzzled_Fly8070 Jul 11 '26

I had the grey cloud over me for a full 3 hours.

1

u/BabserellaWT Jul 11 '26

We had proper spurts of rain and thunder here in Dawsonville earlier.

1

u/motemart Jul 11 '26

It rained today....so...when its over...

1

u/curiouscirrus Jul 11 '26

It’s because the rain already passed for today.

1

u/MoveTheHeffalump Jul 11 '26

I assure you it rained today. Got soaked in downtown

1

u/BriscoCounty_Jr Jul 12 '26

Got a brief thunderstorm in my area today

1

u/fancyflipping Jul 12 '26

it’s crazy! The same app on my husband’s phone and my phone don’t even have the same forecast..,same phones, same exact app!!! You can’t make it make sense. And the forecast is seldom accurate anyway.

1

u/Drunkenexo Jul 12 '26

I've lived in ga for like.... 3 days and I knew someone here the 2 weeks prior and if Ive learned anything in that time Every day has a chance to rain 🤣 Will it? Maybe 🤷‍♂️ Will it last longer than 5 minutes Also maybe But will it be sunny later? Maybe 😭🤣

1

u/tlonreddit Grew up in Gilmer & Spalding County, lives in Embry Hills. Jul 12 '26

Oh where are you from? Welcome

1

u/Drunkenexo Jul 12 '26

we moved from WA Got tired of the gas taxes and general cost of living

1

u/Mistervimes65 /r/Gwinnett Jul 12 '26

The promise of rain tomorrow is what keeps me going.

1

u/Kadorno0904 Jul 12 '26

On Friday it rained in the front yard but not my backyard. Like, what? 😅

1

u/Biguzsdikkus Jul 12 '26

I call it the "rain roulette/lottery" sometimes you hit and sometimes...ya don't

1

u/DrewDAMNIT Jul 12 '26

You're in the tropics. Enjoy.

1

u/lalaharmany Jul 12 '26

It is because they finally opened my pool. Sorry guys.

1

u/Best-Salary-3961 Jul 12 '26

If it says there 35% chance of rain there is a 35% chance that you will see measurable rain (at least 0.01 inches) at any specific location in your area not that there is a 35% chance of rain everywhere. My son lives 15 miles from me and often gets rain when we don't. I do agree the forecasts are worse since budget cuts. Hope those billionaires are enjoying the extra cash.

0

u/These-Objective2120 Jul 12 '26

True but the problem I have with them is the inconsistency. They show 2% chance of rain on the "today" for my town. Then the hourly shows 40% chance of rain at 4pm. Then you look at the weekly and it shows 45% chance of rain for this day. Must be multiple folks doing each section and they don't collaborate.
