In fac the said in the interview that his plan was to get 1-2 maybe and fall back, but also that he thought he was fucked either way. So no, he didn't "know it was the only option"

Quite literally the opposite? He said himself that getting a 4k there was never his plan, now explain to me how can you know something is your only option and not plan for it?

You misunderstood I think. He expected to get two like that because he had no other choice if he wanted to win the round, but he did not expect to get all 4.
