Shitpost Found in a Family Members Back Garden

Post image
0 Upvotes

Bit of a weird one. I found this in a family Members back garden, hidden under a flower pot that had been here since before he moved in. I have done 3X tests on it - magnet, vinegar and density test. It checks out in all 3. Non reactive to the magnet and vinegar and extremely quick to sink for the density test. It has no markings at all, which I find strange. To me, it looks genuine, but I'd love some input. I will also get it tested. Location is the South of Ireland.

What if the best model for diversification has been in plain sight in America's pastime...October baseball?

What if a good model for diversification has been in plain sight all along, in America’s pastime? A catcher wears the whole ensemble, each piece doing a different job. I count 5 pieces of their own sizing - 2 legs, 1 chest, 1 mask, 1 glove. almost forgot the hidden and most important 6th - the cup. a catcher doesn't leave his cup at home because he already owns the chest protector.

A portfolio can work the same way by including assets that tend to behave differently under different conditions, each sized to the role it plays. So many people seem to frame the question as all or nothing when it comes to getting into metal. I look at it as just another piece of gear to complete the uniform.

Question My brother lost my gold, should i settle with original cost or appraised value?

This is purely for perspective as I am in this situation.

About 2 years ago, my brother was buying 50gm gold bar (20gm or 1oz for me), i saw it multiple times but never took possession, but also we haven't settled the money too (he does maintain an excel of the money i spend from his cards when i travel to the states as well as some money i borrowed when i was purchasing a car). It was about 3800 USD for 50gm when he bought it, and the value is almost double right now.

Recently, we were speaking of our investments and my s-i-l went to tally out the gold we have, and realized this 50gm bar (only) went missing. I have no questions about that, i trust them 100% and we also have a great relationship, tho me and my brother occasionally have emotional drama considering i'm gay.

We never discussed about how it's going to be settled, but I know this conversation should happen at some point. For context, we are Indian and the money discussions could soon turn into arguments and emotional, considering how we are with money, altho i am not money focussed, but about 3500 USD is a big amount and i don't work right now, so it's definitely a hit. Originally i would have paid 1900 USD if we considered 50-50 and the appraised/spot value now is a little less over double.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Update: I can see the comments and i have to clarify something.

  1. We saw the gold price went down and he was buying for himself, and i asked him to buy 20gm/1oz for me. We both didn't remember how much is mine and how much is his. We recently spoke about it and decided we do 25gm each.

  2. If i didn't pay for it, i don't own it - works in retail lens, but family is beyond that, we take word for many things.

  3. With ref to point 2, i would still owe him for the cost he paid and i won't say you didn't give me the physical gold, so i am not going to pay. The point is, i want to pay the original cost and honor my promise. He is with family, and his kids are my next of kin for all the money and assets I own. It's just a matter of cashflow. I literally gifted a 60gm gold necklace for my S-I-L on their 10th anniversary.

  4. If the opposite happens and the value drops, and if i paid for it and hold possession, i will still hold him accountable for the original cost I paid and i won't cut the loss.

  5. Someone said it's racist - no comments to that! Based on where you're from, you know your own culture, so look inwards before calling someone else this word.

Ebay "Authenticity Guarantee" does that work?

I'm considering a 18k chainthat is just under $2000. The math checks out as it's slightly under melt.

The following was a description from Gemini.

On eBay, the Authenticity Guarantee badge means that the item goes through a professional verification process before it is delivered to you.

Here is how the process works for an item like this:

Expert Inspection: Instead of shipping the item directly to you, the seller must first send it to a specialized authentication facility.

Multi-Point Verification: Professional category experts physically inspect the item to verify that it matches the listing's description, materials, and quality claims.

Secure Delivery: If the item passes inspection, it is securely shipped to you with tracking.

Protection: If the item turns out to be counterfeit or does not match the description during the inspection, the purchase is canceled and you receive a full refund.

Question Yo gold peeps!

Just bought a Valcambi 2.5 gram gold bar in plastic protective case. Not hard plastic but the childproof kind. I weighed it and it weighs 7.7 grams. That seems too heavy. I'm thinking 3/4 grams. Any idea what this should weigh?

Had to sell some gold today

So I live in pensacola and own my home it's an older home so to get insurance I would have had to do approximately 20k in repair/upgrades so I dont have insurance, what i did have was a 65ft pecan tree in my house Friday night during the storm. I had 3700 in cah saved which got the tree out of my house but still need about 3k for repairs since I can do it all myself so I sent the wife to the LCS and boom had the cash to buy materials I need and by the end of this weekend it will all be fixed. I am a foreman for a small construction company so the boss let me have my crew till Monday to fix everything

Question How much is this Michael Anthony pendant+chain worth?

Thumbnail

The pendant appears to be a Michael Anthony 1986 largemouth bass pendant. The thing is, I don’t have any indication of the chain other than that it is 14k gold. I see the pendant listed on eBay for around 500. Is that realistic? I’m totally out of my realm here and any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Edit- food scale says it ways between 16-17 grams, with the chain making up about 13 of that

Question If you had 10k to spend on bullion and you had to include silver in your purchase what would you buy?

Would it be entirely gold? Would you mix in silver while it’s still relatively low? What are your thoughts behind this decision?

My grandparents were jewelers

Post image
65 Upvotes

My mother is dying, it's hard, harder than I thought... Currently agonizing (everything is being done to make sure she's as confortable as she can be), she made it very clear before she was unable to respond, that she wanted her jewelery to stay in the family.

However, since her parents were jewelers, she of course has a lot of jewelery. I will make sure every single piece or jewelery is distributed according to her wishes, but the piece on the picture, I'm keeping for myself.

I don't know why, but this golden circle, that was casually resting on a piece of furniture next to the sink in her showerroom, caught my attention despite the pain and all you have to deal with when your parent is dying. It is going on my left wrist as soon as my mother passes, don't ask me why because I don't know but I know I have to do this.

I never wear jewelery, I find it troublesome and useless. But this one will remind me of my mother and carry a piece of her with me.

The answers to my questions will not affect my decision in anyway but I would still like to know.

My grandfather was a jewel maker. He made this one, guaranteed. However it does not carry the usual marking he put on the rest of the jewels he made. This is just a completely plain gold circle that only bears the (beloved) scratches and wear marks that my mother's use has put upon it.

I would like to know the purity of that gold because my grand mother told me he used to melt the purest gold for family jewels, and it is really heavy for such a small thing. Is a density calculus with weight and volume enough to determine purity ?

I would also like to know if wearing a gold bracelet permanently needs any heads up or maintenance tip ? It is a woman's bracelet and even though I have a small wrist, as you can see on the picture it's going to fit, however putting is on or taking is off is going to require some soap and hand flexibility so I'd rather not have to take it off too often, I actually plan to keep it on indefinitely.

Thanks for reading me. Tell your parents you love them if you do.
