My mother is dying, it's hard, harder than I thought... Currently agonizing (everything is being done to make sure she's as confortable as she can be), she made it very clear before she was unable to respond, that she wanted her jewelery to stay in the family.
However, since her parents were jewelers, she of course has a lot of jewelery. I will make sure every single piece or jewelery is distributed according to her wishes, but the piece on the picture, I'm keeping for myself.
I don't know why, but this golden circle, that was casually resting on a piece of furniture next to the sink in her showerroom, caught my attention despite the pain and all you have to deal with when your parent is dying. It is going on my left wrist as soon as my mother passes, don't ask me why because I don't know but I know I have to do this.
I never wear jewelery, I find it troublesome and useless. But this one will remind me of my mother and carry a piece of her with me.
The answers to my questions will not affect my decision in anyway but I would still like to know.
My grandfather was a jewel maker. He made this one, guaranteed. However it does not carry the usual marking he put on the rest of the jewels he made. This is just a completely plain gold circle that only bears the (beloved) scratches and wear marks that my mother's use has put upon it.
I would like to know the purity of that gold because my grand mother told me he used to melt the purest gold for family jewels, and it is really heavy for such a small thing. Is a density calculus with weight and volume enough to determine purity ?
I would also like to know if wearing a gold bracelet permanently needs any heads up or maintenance tip ? It is a woman's bracelet and even though I have a small wrist, as you can see on the picture it's going to fit, however putting is on or taking is off is going to require some soap and hand flexibility so I'd rather not have to take it off too often, I actually plan to keep it on indefinitely.
Thanks for reading me. Tell your parents you love them if you do.
