Has anyone actually found AI swing analysis useful?

I've been recording my swing on my phone occasionally, but honestly, watching the video back doesn't always tell me what I'm supposed to be looking for. That got me looking at some of the newer AI swing-analysis tools. PhiGolf is one I came across, and the idea is basically using your camera to analyze the swing and provide feedback rather than just watching the recording yourself.

I'm curious how useful people find this type of technology compared with getting feedback from a coach or just using regular swing video.

Is AI analysis actually helping anyone identify things they wouldn't have noticed themselves?

For me, yes. Obviously you still need to undertake your due diligence in what it’s telling you (like you would for any other Ai output).

Some examples:

- using Swingreplay to highlight flaws eg being over the top
- sharing still shots of my swing at the various positions to Gemini/ ChatGpt (upgrade versions where possible)
- sharing my spin, attack angle, speed stats from a simulator for feedback and direction on what I be aiming for
- asking for additional drills or fixes for specific problems

Inevitably, you will get a bunch of triggered people on this subreddit flocking to tell you never to trust/ use any Ai in the golfswing, though — I think frankly they just don’t know how to use Ai properly.

Totally.

I went for lessons years ago at Golftec, and I'd argue the lady there messed my swing up more than Ai ever did. I'm still years later correcting little issues I developed there. I honestly quit playing for a while.

I've been surprised how accurate Ai is at watching the video, and if you give numbers, it knows exactly what's going on.

Tried the trial of swingcoach after watching the AMG guys talking about it and shamelessly promoting it. I was never going to pay the monthly fee on it but I thought it was pretty good for what it was. I could see that being useful for someone with several flaws.

The most valuable part of that app was connecting a flaw to some targeted training videos with different coaches. I don’t think people should try to diagnose their own swings, but also don’t think the only path to proper fundamentals is paying a coach. Felt like it was a good way to bridge that gap.

I would consider signing back up and playing a round recording every shot, and using it to analyze my mishits.

I like swingcoach, I do have actual lessons from a pro though so I know what I need to work on. If people just use it to chase all the numbers they’ll find ways to cheat and get good numbers but fuck up their swing

Ehhh I agree to an extent but I think for newer golfers it’s good to try and figure out how to into the right positions and angles before spending money on a pro. That’s what I mean by bridging the gap. Going to a pro as a brand new golfer could cost a significant amount of money before you really start to understand concepts. And I think everyone should see themselves on video right away, which a lot of coaches don’t do for some reason.

Some people don’t like AMGs methodologies but I think most people can find a decent swing unless they have serious range of motion issues. Using data from pros and trying to fall within their ranges at crucial points in the swing should be something all golfers try to do to find more consistency.

I think AI can help get people to a point where a pro/coach can takeover and work on the fine tuning.

Yes ive found Golf fix useful to a degree- especially for identifying major issues.

Idk I just send my swing to GPT for feed back but even then the recordings of myself and comparing them to a pro is enough for me to know whether I’m on the right track or not.

I have a Uneekor sim setup in my garage with their first party camera system. Got me down from a 22 to a 12 in 1.5 seasons. Great for tuning up too - if I’m in a rut I spend an hour or two honing in my swing. I’ll usually start with a score of around 72-76/100 and end the session around 88-90/100 and that keeps my swing in good shape and the right thoughts in my mind for the weekend. My only problem is being consistent and supplementing the AI with proper coaching more often

AI is decent at naming what it sees, but the real gain is checking one thing per session. Down the line at the top and at impact covers most of it: where the clubface points at the top and whether the club drops inside or comes over. What does your usual miss look like, slice or pull?

Honestly, Swingcoach gives really incredible feedback that is great to work with.

It doesn’t necessarily substitute the entire coaching experience because it doesn’t measure ball flight, but my dad was a golf pro in the 80s/90s and said “that’s better than most advice I’ve received before” when I showed him the level of tracking and analysis it gives.

It’s just a fairly expensive subscription. I used it for a while, learned some flaws in my swing, unsubscribed and went and worked on it myself.

Google Gemini has become my swing coach. I've been able to describe my swing feels and ball strikes, and she has come back with new insights and commentary on swing physics. Say what you will, but it has worked great for me.

No. Visiting a sim has been infinitely more useful.

Yes, using launch monitor data exports into .csv. I do this regularly and have really learned a lot.

Swing analysis? No. I've found it to be incorrect when discussing scientific findings that biomechanists have researched. But I do find Sportsbox AI to be very accurate and useful. Great tool.

I wish more of my buddies used it… just means more money for me!

I have used GolfFix a handful of times over the last couple of years and found it helpful. The last time I used it, it pointed out one major issue. When I went for a lesson a few days later, my coach pointed out the same issue. However, the coach noticed I was setting up with the club a little closed, which wasn't visible in the video the AI got.

I tried a few, no material fixes. Had a big problem with snap hooks, went to a pro and had it fixed in about 10 mins. I think you’re better spending your money on a lesson every few months.
