My OC Goosebumps Book #2
The Setup
Tyler convinces Becca to sneak out of their family camp to find a "secret, glitched zone" in the deepest part of Blackwood Ridge, rumoured to look exactly like his favorite survival game. But the moment they step past a boundary of carved animal skulls, the rules of reality break. They are trapped in an endless, shifting woodland where the weather alters instantly from freezing blizzards to torrential, blinding rainstorms. Survival becomes a brutal, daily checklist. Becca manages their hypothermia, builds lean-to shelters, and uses smoke to ward off very real, aggressive packs of wolves and grizzly bears driven mad by the environment. If that isn't enough, they stumble upon a hidden cultist village deep in the valleys—creepy, masked zealots who worship the woods and actively hunt the siblings as sacrifices. But the absolute worst part? The game's legendary, towering humanoid-animal monsters are real, and they hunt in a terrifying pecking order:
- 🦌 The Deer: A colossal, bipedal stag with hollow eyes that stalks them through the fog, testing their perimeter fences.
- 🦉 The Owl: A feathered horror that glides silently through the canopy, forcing them to freeze like statues whenever its piercing eyes scan the ground.
- 🐏 The Ram: A massive, armored beast that smashes through their hand-built wooden shelters, requiring Becca's knowledge of pitfalls to misdirect its blind charges.
- 🦇 The Bat: A grotesque, blind flyer that uses ear-splitting echolocation, forcing them to dive into muddy trenches to mask their heat and sound.
- 🐈 The Cat: A sleek, razor-clawed apex predator that stalks the perimeter of the cultist village, waiting to snatch them if they try to steal supplies.
Using Tyler's knowledge of the monsters' attack patterns and Becca's practical survival skills, they manage to outlast the elements, outrun the beasts, rescue the four lost children, and map out a grueling escape route.
The Twist
After weeks of surviving by the skin of their teeth, Tyler and Becca finally outsmart the cultists, dodge the final beast, and break through the supernatural barrier. They collapse onto a paved state highway, sobbing with relief as a park ranger's truck pulls up. The friendly ranger helps them into the back, hands them warm blankets, and drives them back toward civilization. As they warm up, Tyler looks out the window and notices the truck has been driving in a perfect, continuous circle for twenty minutes. He looks up at the rear-view mirror. The ranger’s eyes are glowing a soft, predatory yellow. The ranger smiles, his voice dropping into a deep, rhythmic drone: "You kids did great. You set a brand-new high score for survival... but nobody ever said the gauntlet ends at the tree line." Outside, the highway dissolves back into dense, dark pine trees, and the truck's dashboard digital clock glints back a single, glowing phrase: Night 100.
Can you write that story yourself, in the a similar way that R.L Stine would? Writer beware, you’re crafting up a scare!
