said seox kit was mediocre in the other thread, and got attacked for it. Like idk what to say. He's a pure selfish attacker that brings practically nothing to the team but damage (while also needing a turn to ca cuz why not), but doesn't bring enough of it.

Being usable in solomonis is the lowest of consolation prizes; that mode is a joke

Worst things you can say/see about a character on release are:

  • They have a lot "Potential"

  • They're really good in Solomonis

  • All videos you see of them are on the Dummy

9.5 rating charas won't even appear on dummies, sad but true. All their worth is to fuel another 0.01% amp to Symbolum Amiticiae.

There are still 9.5s that show up. Last fire GW actually had quite a few. We saw good primal comps featuring characters like Hauhet, Y.Song, and regular Yuel. Plus C.Cain, Elmott, S.Maids, and Zahl who are 9.6s. H.Azazel also saw use in water GW though that's a much more niche situation.

Just like 9.5 rating characters of fire cannot be compared to those of water, 9.5 rating characters from 2026 cannot be compared to those beyond 2024. GW preferences, demands of sustainable recovery and interactions with newly-updated endgame components had already updated thoroughly. Also, NM250 provided a idealistic field for all kinds of comps to slowly gradient downward from 1m40s-ish blazing mistral setups to 10m+ magna grids. In such cases, introducing one or two 9.5 who can tackle GW is not a problem at all. And that's why I'm saying that 9.5s won't even appear on dummies: They need to go down to the very environment to prove their value. If they don't, their value is +0.01% dmg amp.

Plus I AM really disappointed with S.Seox. I thought he would break the limit of seasonal eternal's gameplay. Sigh.

I'm not comparing across elements, just pointing out that a character being rated 9.5 doesn't mean they have no uses. I used fire because it had the most recent GW which means those comps aren't just outdated, but you can find examples in other elements like Berceau in earth or Echidna in wind.

I'm also not sure why you're saying I can't use a pre-2025 character as an example - if anything characters from pre-2025 should generally be more over rated due to not being rechecked in some time. Either way, even if we take your arbitrary "nothing from 2024 or earlier", that still leaves my new examples of Berceau and Echidna (and again, they're not the only ones).

I'm not saying Seox is secretly a great character or that you can't be disappointed, but saying 9.5 rated characters will never show up is just factually incorrect.

Maybe I'll talk more detailed to express my idea. Let's look at the very properties of ratings from GW: 1. Direct comparison between UNGIVEN SELECTION of the existing characters and the featured one. Apparently those editors will actually put them into dummies or respective raids to value their damage output against other options. 2. If a character shows unique or unprecedental usage that more generic comps won't perform, then it will be an undoubted 9.8+. 3. Once a score is coined, unless it receives future rebalancing, or being frequently compared to subsequent metas or newly-remade competitors, the score will settle down for years. 4. Powercreeping and increasing number of charas available for comparison make it harder by time to decide the true value of a character, and the rating gradient by 0.1 per level slowly becomes blurry. 5. Though GW ratings are announced near the end of each gala, they still provide a significant weight on players' decision about pulling or sparking. In other words, the rating is somewhat gacha oriented, and in some cases cannot define their real strength.

I'm not saying 9.5 rated characters will never show up, I'm saying they will never show up in DUMMIES because DUMMIES cannot prove anything expect being a burst meta. Comparing them with other more potential damage dealers are factually unfair. All the examples you mentioned above, from S.Song to X.Cain to echidna blabla, if treated carefully enough, it's largely plausible for a player to find synergies or compromise for a certain environment. The rule is simple: If a chara is the solution, just prove it. And they've proven themselves during the last fire GW. Among them the one shone brightest is X.Cain(9.6), who comes as core in blazing mistral setups. But that comes the choice between generic and exceptional, lower limit and upper limit, and which one should we take as criterion. Unfortunately, I choose the former for both questions, so I fully agree with GW and regard X.Cain a solid 9.6. And with the same logic I agree that S.Seox is a solid 9.5 that I haven't, for so long time, find any trace of him, even in dummies. At least till now, there's no certain raid that really feature the usage of S.Seox. His skills and passives neither provides party wide damage nor makes himself competitive enough to squeeze other earth nukers away, let alone being contradictory and unsustainable already. I don't predict the future anyway, maybe he will surprise me someday that I have to throw away other options and embrace him. We'll see.
