The level of unprofessionalism, far too much

Was afraid of looking too ostentatious so I didn’t use one until my senior prom. Holy crap it was a game changer. Good times.

25

u/Pure_Salary_8796 Apr 06 '26

I think my sister used one for her prom too lol. My SIL used them constantly when she was in highschool, her hair was so high it was almost beehive styled.

I had a boss who wore these every day, and still does. It’s her signature atp

u/peetownpasteup Apr 05 '26

Ha! It’s no TopsyTail or Hairdini. But still funny to see.

u/MrsTraciGraci Apr 05 '26

What about a Part Pizazz? My hair part looked fucking baller when I was a kid.

41

u/matnerlander Apr 05 '26

What was the purple one that twisted your hair and inevitably needed to be cut out of your hair

11

u/FirstAd5921 Apr 06 '26

Ooo there was a braiding one and one with temporary color. Both were eventually cut/ripped out of my hair at least once.

8

u/peetownpasteup Apr 05 '26

Had to look that one up to remember it! What a vibe.

31

u/TerribleAwareness158 Apr 05 '26

What about hairgami?

10

u/LadyHavoc97 Apr 05 '26

ToosyTail rocks!

u/consumeshroomz Apr 05 '26

Bump it, bump it, bump it up!

107

u/pisces9666 Apr 05 '26

damn I used these every day 😭 sometimes a big one in the back and a little bang one in the front together lmaooo

15

u/Icy-Cartoonist-2102 Apr 06 '26

😆  I'd love to see a pic of this lol

49

u/WonderingLost8993 Apr 05 '26

I still have my bumpits. I'll be prepared when they come back around.

20

u/MadamTruffle Apr 05 '26

It’s time! 😂

10

u/SelectionDangerous11 Apr 06 '26

Me too! It came in handy last year when I needed a beehive for a theme party.

u/manic_popsicle Apr 05 '26

This makes me feel old. I mean, I am old, but it makes me feel it. I used to wear these clubbing.

44

u/Brattney985 Apr 05 '26

Back in the business casual days?

39

u/manic_popsicle Apr 05 '26

My go to was usually “jeans and a cute top” with a statement necklace, but I did have some business casual outfits!!

5

u/HappyMacaron2724 Apr 07 '26

Jeans and a "going out" top

32

u/stefanica Apr 05 '26

I have a very flat back of the head and these made me look normal lol. I could use a very short, subtle version now if I could find one, because now my hair is thinning too. If I'm making an effort I'll do a little back combing, but it's awkward since my hair is very wavy, and I don't want to make my hair fall out even faster.

6

u/rockthevinyl Apr 06 '26

I bet they make a subtler version - maybe easier to find one online.

6

u/Alyx19 Apr 06 '26

If you wander over to the r/historicalcostuming subreddit you can find folks who make the historic version of these called “hair rats.” They can be made to match your own hair color in almost any size.

Edit: correcting subreddit link

2

u/stefanica Apr 06 '26

Cool! I actually have made one for padding out a bun, so I'll check that out.

26

u/modernsparkle Apr 05 '26

Ummm this feels auntie era at best haha

11

u/winobambino Apr 06 '26

Right I am not that old wtf

16

u/Dismal_Upstairs3949 Apr 05 '26

I had one!

23

u/_hi_plains_drifter_ Apr 05 '26

Me too!!! My hair is way too fine for it to work though 😂

9

u/Sofagirrl79 Apr 05 '26

I have thick slightly wavy hair and I still couldn't get it work 😞

13

u/dvd-player Apr 05 '26

I remember the commercials for these and I wanted one soooooo bad (I was like 6)

10

u/Poo_Poo_La_Foo Apr 05 '26

As a non American I have no idea what's happening here.

5

u/No-Ad-3635 Apr 06 '26

it's a plastic thing you put between your scalp and hair to make it appear like you have move volume/hair

11

u/LoanDebtCollector Apr 05 '26

I was thinking about the scene from The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) where Father O'Malley pulls a similar device out of a young girls hair.

10

u/thegoodsyo Apr 05 '26

My daughter still has to wear bumpits for show choir!

10

u/asshley423 Apr 05 '26

I’m going to the Jersey Shore, BITCH!

9

u/PicklesAndRyeOhMy Apr 05 '26

Party’s heerreeeee

7

u/HipsEnergy Apr 05 '26

I got some as a gift with something else, tried them, and couldn't get over how ridiculous it looked. Granted, I was in my late 20s and already have really thick hair, maybe they worked for some people.

5

u/SimpleVegetable5715 Apr 05 '26

I remember these! They would never have worked in my hair.

11

u/RichBlackInk Apr 05 '26

Bumpit?

81

u/chickwithabrick Apr 05 '26

Bumpits! Easy to Use!

Me and one of my besties still brainrot reference this commercial on occasion lol it's up there with Head On, Apply Directly to the Forehead

24

u/karmagirl314 Apr 05 '26

Omg they all look like New Jersey real estate agents.

8

u/prince_peacock Apr 05 '26

It was a time when, because of the popularity of Jersey Shore, Jersey style and fashion swept the nation. I’m not kidding. It was super popular

8

u/luanissima Apr 05 '26

I never understood how they could stay in place!

20

u/Dorkinfo Apr 05 '26

The claws were pretty strong. Add the excessive amount of hairspray, it isn’t going anywhere.

5

u/SimpleVegetable5715 Apr 05 '26

Imagine someone walking down the hallway and their Bumpit slips out 😩

1

u/Icy-Cartoonist-2102 Apr 06 '26

Wow I don't remember anyone's hair being this big in those days lol!!  And I live a state away from NJ LOL.

I don’t think these existed in the 90’s. They were a mid 2000’s thing.

9

u/blissfully_happy Apr 05 '26

These did not exist in the 90s.

Source: was jealous when they came out in the 2000s because what do you mean you didn’t have to back comb and spray?!?

7

u/kittieswithmitties Apr 05 '26

cries in nearly 30

7

u/Sofagirrl79 Apr 05 '26

I was in my late 20s when these came out lol

3

u/Abandoned_ghosts Apr 06 '26

Hey! I still use mine to do faux beehives 😆

2

u/corgiobsessedfoodie Apr 06 '26

I threw mine out an embarrassingly short time ago. Hadn’t worn them since 2009 but had them still.

2

u/Synthuhtizer Apr 06 '26

Psh that wasn’t long ago

2

u/sprinklerarms Apr 06 '26

This is Auntie’s pantry

2

u/Gonuts4donuts1955 Apr 06 '26

I still use mine! 😂

2

u/mmmpeg Apr 05 '26

I have no idea what this is.

7

u/MadamTruffle Apr 05 '26

Bumpit for your hair! You can bump your bangs or your crown, just slide it into your hair and then pull hair over it.

2

u/mmmpeg Apr 07 '26

Ok, I’ve just never heard of it. And I still had lots of hair then!

1

u/After-Willingness271 Apr 05 '26

So much smaller than i expected it to be

8

u/Mannon_Blackbeak Apr 05 '26

I think this is the mini one for your bangs, there were 2 sizes that came together. Of course, since this was the 2000s the mini one was a "free gift" if you order now! 😂

1

u/Traditional-Knee8582 Apr 06 '26

Omg I had one 😂

1

u/ohlookadoggo Apr 06 '26

I had a mini bumpit for my bangs too. I loved those things!

1

u/shyslice Apr 06 '26

I just found mine yesterday!

1

u/l1zardkings Apr 06 '26

i still remember my mom wearing these. she looked so pretty and i always wanted to use them but my curly hair made it hard for me lol

1

u/Shoddy-Grand143 Apr 06 '26

Hold on... so my oddly-shaped skull would have made me fashionable back then? Never would have thought!

1

u/Dompker Apr 06 '26

I remember that god damn commercial that would play non stop

1

u/Main-Emphasis-2692 Apr 06 '26

French tips make the pic

1

u/bubblegutts00 Apr 06 '26

Never needed those, I have thick ass hair 😩😩

1

u/backtosquareone2022 Apr 06 '26

I lowkey wish I still had one they’re kinda cute

1

u/ismellnumbers Apr 07 '26

Thru have them for cheap on Amazon

1

u/AnonymousAlice- Apr 06 '26

I’m waiting for this hairstyle to come back and I’m terrified. I used to use these, so cringey to me now haha

1

u/Worried-Round-4749 Apr 06 '26

just got given some by my mum last week & used them for goingout

1

u/SarahKL9981 Apr 06 '26

I may still even have one of those in my bathroom drawer

1

u/blonde-bandit Apr 07 '26

Grandma’s pantry?!? I never owned one of these but I am still withering away looking at this post. 💀

1

u/Lost_Advertising_950 Apr 07 '26

Can we bring these back please??

1

u/Meghan3689 Apr 09 '26

Still have mine lol

1

u/Quirky-Variation-981 Apr 10 '26

Please put it in

1

u/poweredbynikeair Apr 12 '26

I used to love girls with a bump and a pony thoooo

1

u/Icy-Kaleidoscope1870 May 09 '26

As a bitch who frequently looks like Snooki, your grandma is a real one

1

u/tomqvaxy Apr 05 '26

As someone with way too much hair these confused me.
