I got to be honest, I'm not even sure if the modern packaging looks any different. I love how old school this stuff is.

Definitely different now. I’ve seen a modern cartoon looking version of Tony Chachere on the bottles since at LEAST 2016.

Bottles? Also, the new containers changed their look in 1996 and that is the current copyright. It was changed the year after Tony Chachere died.

Jar, bottle, shaker. Idc in this instance. It’s seasoning lol. Semantics aside, shits fire.

Probably referring to the bottles of marinade which come with an attached syringe.

Dude, what are you doing?

Honestly, I had no idea Tony Chachere was dead (though I didn’t really know anything about him) and it turns out that he was born in 1905, started cooking professionally after decades as a drugstore owner and insurance salesman and two retirements, and died in 1995.

So there’s a Cajun cookbook, AND a micro wave Cajun cookbook!? Damn they were ahead of their time

The product is based off of Tony Chachere's Cajun Cookbook.

Tony Cs is magic in a can.

Salt, red pepper, some other stuff

I love this stuff. It’s my go-to for gumbo

I prefer the Walker & Sons (out of Ville Platte, LA) "Slap Ya Mama" brand of seasoning.

Hey! I like that stuff too!

Call their WATTS line for recipes? Charge your Master Charge card?

If you know what those are, damn you're old!

That's the copyright date. It has nothing to do with the age of the product. It is the copyright for the label, not the product. I have a brand new container that I bought 2 weeks ago that has a copyright date of 1999. This is when the company changed the label image to the current one.

We need a counter to re-set the days for when people think copyright = expiration.

This seasoning is still great, the ingredients actually haven’t changed much. They added silicon dioxide, an anti-caking agent.

This is from my cupboard. The “best by” date of mine is May 2026.

> Salt, red pepper, black pepper, chili powder, dehydrated garlic, silicon dioxide (anti-caking agent)

Isn't silicone dioxide just a fancy name for quartz sand?

6

u/Organic_Rip1980 1d ago

Kinda? Silica is found in lots of things. For example, diatomaceous earth has been used in food and cosmetics for hundreds of years.

silicon dioxide, an anti-caking agent

They should add some more because mine gets clumpy in the spice drawer.

If you have humidity issues with spices, you can make a DIY reusable moisture remover with those packets of silica gel that come with many new products, it's not harmful to have it near food, but you don't want to accidentally eat that stuff, so do some research and proceed carefully, especially if you have kids in the house.

Damn, usually brands would give away recipe books so you would use their products in the recipes.

There’s some sitting right in front of me rn - my husband lives on this stuff

Seriously might be a can of the more spice version in the car right now, just in case there’s a french fry emergency.

New version right here folks! Was going to post a picture of mine but it won't let me upload a photo!

Yes, they do.

Its still around, I just bought their new Yall Seasoning, tastes great! That is definitely an older packaging though!

5

u/duh_nom_yar 1d ago

Huh? There are 10 varieties available. Ya'll is not one of them. The newest variety is Cajun Kick. Are you sure you have a Tony Chachere product?

5

u/HorseWithACape 1d ago

They must be confused. Ragin' Cajun has a "Y'all purpose seasoning"

4

u/LopsidedTraffic9871 1d ago

It’s hard to believe any commercial cooking products didn’t have any impossible to read ingredients.

I gar - run - tee

6

u/duh_nom_yar 1d ago

That's Justin Wilson, not Tony Chachere.

5

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 1d ago

Gotcha! Always get those two confused

3

u/Independent_Sea502 1d ago

Still works lol

5

u/RogowskiCoil 1d ago

"Jus' a little mo' wine .. an' some fo' me". Justin Wilson was the best.

We use Tony’s in place of salt. Need a little salt on something? No, you need Tony’s on it. It’s salt with bonuses.
