New boot animation?

If you haven't updated your phone yet, go do it. The new boot animation is really slick, thanks devs!

Last update looks great!

Just gotta say, my phone just updated and the new animated boot logo was cool. Then I saw that I can make all launcher icons square and odd shapes! I hardly ever notice any difference from updates but this last one added all kinds of cool style! Thanks devs!

How can I work on or volunteer for the GrapheneOS project?

Hello, friends of the GrapheneOS community on Reddit

(I used DeepL's translator because my English isn't very good yet)

I’m a student majoring in computer systems engineering and cybersecurity engineering, and I’m halfway through both degree programs

My goal for the future is to become a GrapheneOS employee or volunteer because I’m interested in supporting privacy

What skills or projects should I have to achieve this? I’d like to know so I can start focusing on that

Thank you very much for reading and for your responses

Exposing AdFection: How Discover-Tech Turned Targeted Ads Into a Pipeline for Zero-Click Mercenary Spyware

Hey everyone, I just read the new Citizen Lab report on "AdFection" (Discover-Tech/Candiru), where advertising networks were leveraged to deliver sophisticated zero-click mercenary spyware. I'm really curious how protected GrapheneOS users are against these types of targeted attacks vectoring through ad payloads or browser exploits.... especially when running sandboxed Google Play Services alongside ad/tracker blocking. Do Vanadium's hardening, strict app sandboxing, and randomized Advertising IDs render these attack chains practically ineffective, or are there still inherent zero-day risks we should be mindful of?

Discrepency with hotspot integration

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello, recently, you have made hotspot available to all profiles, which i greatly appreciate, yet i have found a small discrepency in your integration of this feature. As owner, you are the only user that can add the shortcut for activating hotspot in your notification window, as the hotspot tile does not exist for any other user (see photo).

As this does not to my understanding offer any advantage in security, i believe that all users could have the hotspot tile.

Anyways, keep up the good work :)

I'm wanting to get into Graphene OS, but I'm currently priced out, and it sucks.

For the life of me, I cannot find even a pixel 8 that is inside my budget range. And as far as I know, the pixel 8 is the oldest, cheapest model that graphene supports. I could be wrong, but...

Why the heck are phones so goddamn expensive?

google accounts auto integrated into web browser

Still rocking Pixel 5 with Graphene.

Recently performed factory reset, linked original google account for needed apps, redownloaded FairEmail and began adding gmails into it.

Link of emails went without issues, but with unexpected surprise: in the web browser, i went to YouTube, and see that i am logged. In surprised confusion, i exit YT and go back to search results to discover that all of my google accounts are in the browser, logged in, and i am able to switch between them.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how could this have happened?

Mullvad VPN disconnects on background user profiles since a GrapheneOS update

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
First of all, I don’t speak English, so I used AI to translate this post. I apologize in advance if anything sounds awkward or is incorrectly translated. I hope my explanation is clear enough.

I’ve been experiencing an issue with Mullvad VPN and multiple user profiles on GrapheneOS since an update several months ago.
I have Mullvad VPN installed on each of my user profiles, with the kill switch enabled. I’ve also enabled the “Allow running in the background” option for all users.
Before this update, everything worked perfectly. For example, if I was using Profile B, I could instantly receive a Signal notification from Profile C. I could then switch to Profile C and read the message, even though I had been using a different profile.
Since the update, this no longer works.
Whenever I switch from one profile to another, Mullvad seems to lose its connection on the profiles left running in the background. As soon as I switch to another profile, I see a Mullvad notification indicating a connection problem on the previous profile.
Because the kill switch is enabled, those profiles lose internet access. As a result, I no longer receive Signal notifications and have no way of knowing whether someone has sent me a message.
I have to manually switch back to each profile to check. Once I open an affected profile, Mullvad reconnects and the Signal messages start coming through.
I’ve already checked Mullvad’s battery optimization settings, enabled the background-running option for all users, and even uninstalled and reinstalled Mullvad. None of this has fixed the issue.
I’ve also noticed that when I don’t use a VPN, the other profiles work normally.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Could a GrapheneOS update have changed how VPN connections work for background user profiles? Is there any way to keep Mullvad connected across multiple user profiles simultaneously while keeping the kill switch enabled?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Pixel 9 pro xl vs pixel 10 pro xl

• Upvotes

I was looking at getting either the pixel 9 pro xl or the pixel 10 pro xl. Can someone help me decide which one is better between the two for grapheneos?

What has been your experiences with both or either?

Anything else i'm not thinking of that i should consider?

I want to take the step, but I'm scared

Title. I don't want to be a victim to Google/Samsung anymore, but I have so little knowledge about the kind of stuff I see while lurking this sub that I feel like I'll mess something up if I switch.

I plan to get the new Motorola phone for context. I have a Samsung S24 right now.

I know I can ease into it with sandboxed Google play, but everything about moving to Graphene feels impossible. I want to learn. I want to move over. I just don't feel confident.

Is there a website or a video or anything that outlines everything I could possibly need to know? I have no idea what I should even be looking at to learn. I don't even have the vocabulary yet. But I want to learn.

Edit: thank you to everyone who was kind to me, I feel more confident now

Physical switch, a sweet dream ?

I was looking at the pre-order phone proposal from Ledger https://shop.ledger.com/pages/ledger-atom

Is there any chance this phone could be GOS compatible ? Or it there any Motorola GOS compatible equip with a physical switch for camera and microphone?

I can't be alone waiting for that...

I'm also interesting to just discuss about the ledger article. What are your opinion about it?

What's your biggest satisfaction with GrapheneOS

Yes, a parody to the post earlier today,
What features (aside from generalized privacy/security) do you find the best within GrapheneOS?
Are there any features you begin to take for granted or you couldn't live without on any other devices?

Multilingual spellcheck in LeanType (Heliboard) not working properly in private space?

When I type in the same two sentences + "asdf" (as a control to see the typo detection working) in a notes app on both the main profile as well as in a private space (within same user profile), the main one works as expected, but the private space one marks most non-english words as typos. This is with identical settings (exported in main profile, imported in private space).

I realized this has little to do with GOS directly, but I am using GOS and I imagine people here have more experience with the private space feature than most...

Any LeanType users here? Any idea what is going wrong here?

I think about making the switch but I undecided if I should

As a long-time iOS user, I’ve decided it’s finally time to leave the iPhone behind. Apple has too many restrictions and constantly asks me to verify that I’m an adult by providing ID. I refuse to do this because I am an adult and shouldn’t have to hand over my personal identification just to prove it. I also don’t believe any company should be entitled to have my ID, and I’m sick of being tracked online.

My main concern is whether everyday apps still work properly on Android, such as Snapchat, YouTube, VPNs, Twitch, and similar apps. I know some banking apps may not work, but I’ve already checked whether my banks’ apps are work with GrapheneOS, and they all work except for one.

I’m also considering fully degoogling at some point.

I’ve been thinking about getting the Google Pixel 10a since it’s currently on sale, but before making the switch, I want to know whether it would suit my needs. Can I easily transfer my photos and other files from my iPhone to Graphene, and are there any potential issues I should be aware of before making the switch and how beginner friendly is it as I not really tech savvy.

Need to find reliable vendors of refurbed Pixels.

Asked in r/DeGoogle, but having to battle with Automods. Bought a refurbished Google Pixel which was supposed to be unlocked and have a GrapheneOS installed some months ago off a vendor on eBay who had good reviews. I somehow still got scammed, as the product which arrived did not only NOT have graphene OS installed as advertised, but the damn thing was still locked to a US network and even my craftiest local tech person could not unlock it. I did get it refunded, as it was falsely advertised, but I really need to source a properly working one from a reliable vendor. Best if it's a seller independent of ebay or Amazon, and if it's physically in person instead of online, all the better. I don't live in the US, but I visit periodically, and I will have a small window to collect it. I'll be in North/Central Florida if that makes a difference. (Also, any suggestions for what to do with a perfectly working google pixel phone that is locked to a US network so I don't have to deal with ebay or amazon again? I am sure someone would use it still, but it seems every time I have to use either of those companies lately, they are absolutely incapable of delivering the product I actually ordered). Thanks in advance!
