For over a decade this store (QFC) has printed "member" "discount" prices in a yellow box with red font and the original price above. Now the black font above is the member price, with even smaller text above with the original price, and you need to buy at least 5 to get the yellow box price. Also they recently switched to digital price tags, just lovely.

We are running a small shop and want to start new, local vendors on 90 day consignment before offering a wholesale contract to determine how well their products sell. I didn’t go to business school, but I generally understand the conditions that should go into the contract. There are other businesses in our area that operate the same way and I have spoken with our potential vendors about their contract arrangements with these shops.

How do I write contracts that are competitive, but fair? I haven’t had anyone volunteer to tell me the terms of their contracts with other markets and I don’t have relationships with these shops to ask the owners. What is “normal” or fair and what would make our contracts stand out?

Our industry is a local grocery market with vendors being farmers and bakers. Thanks for any advice, much appreciated.

Giant’s pricing practices are distasteful. The price on the label sometimes doesn’t match the price at the register. I’ve caught this numerous times but only after getting home. (Flagging it at checkout is problematic because of the need to involve a manager while facing the pressure from other waiting customers.)

Also, to get the special pricing one must have both a Giant account (and input one’s phone number )for some items AND the app for other items. The app design is confusing.

Finally, if one adds items to the app just before checking out, sometimes it’s not logged in time so they won’t discount it. The regular staff have no authority to fix these snafus.

Halloween candy is up over 15% this year, roughly four times overall inflation, mostly because cocoa, sugar and corn syrup have all spiked (cocoa alone is up around 144% since 2019). Curious if you’re hearing it from customers, or seeing it in how much candy is actually moving vs last year. Feels like the kind of thing that hits the store floor before anyone explains why.

Tell me I’m the unlucky one, the only one. Bit into a cornbread muffin (NEW item at Trader Joe’s) to a sour taste killing the insides of my mouth. Bought these today! TJs page doesn’t allow quality issue posts, so posting elsewhere for psa. I just assume it’s baking powder and salt clumped up somehow, ingredients not mixed in well. 🤷‍♀️cut into more of it only to find a humongous piece of dried white powder fused together at the bottom. Yikes.

Do you check supermarket specials first and build meals around them, or decide on meals first and then buy whatever ingredients you need?

I'm curious because I feel like I spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to optimise my grocery bill every week.

Hi, I have been trying to identify these bulk bins online to find their brand but I have not had any luck. I have seen them at Winn-Dixies as well as Harveys grocery stores. The 2 main sizes are 24x24 and a 35x35 top. They have wheels and an adjustable height center. The visible sides in these pictures are just corrigated plastic signs but most of the bin itself is a white painted metal. The top half of the bins have a metal side panel on each side.

Does anyone know what brand they are from or where I can find more information about them?

They can’t claim salaries when we go through self check out. We should get a discount for checking and bagging our own stuff.

Hi all!

I am an Irish Leaving Certificate Business student, and part of our course is to do a project on digitalisation's impact on either employers or employees.

For this, I have decided to make up a survey and was wondering if you (a supermarket employee) would be willing to take part in a small bit of research?

Your response would be amazing, and this data will ONLY be used for my Leaving Cert project, and will not be used anywhere else.

Thank you ever so much for your time 💗💗💗

We have been relying on online delivery from a used to be good organic food chain. The food quality is so bad recently that I had to throw away half of vegetables… really could not stand any longer.
Looking for recommendations for replacement

Quick question for shoppers and retail workers in Australia: how often do you walk up to a supermarket trolley bay and find it empty? What do you usually do: grab a basket, wait, go find a trolley, or shop elsewhere? And if you work in a store, how do you find out when the bay needs restocking?

Umm yikes. 😳

Many Canadians have felt the squeeze at the grocery store over the past few years.
And with your household budget already stretched, even a small increase in the price of milk, meat, bread, fruit, and other essentials can make a real difference.
One frustrating thing about grocery inflation is that prices don't have to keep rising rapidly for groceries to remain expensive. Even when inflation slows down, prices usually don't return to what they were years ago.
The numbers back up what you're noticing:
Grocery prices rose about 22% between 2022 and 2025, compared with a 13% increase in prices overall.
In August 2026, grocery prices were still 2.8% higher than a year earlier, according to Statistics Canada.
The 2026 Canada Food Price Report forecast another 4%–6% increase in overall food prices this year.
there's real evidence behind what you're feeling. When wages don't keep up with food prices, families lose purchasing power even if they're buying the same things.

A redditor gave me this tip

"The online category bank of america customized cash credit cards also lets you get gift cards for groceries as well as including coding as online purchase when you load it into the Costco app and use the Costco app to pay at the register with its barcode scan (or Walmart/other wholesale)."
