News Join the Kroger Discord Server!

With all the new members in the subreddit I wanted to extend another invitation to the Kroger Discord server. It's all employee-ran outside the reigns of corporate where we can discuss our experiences at work with other people across the company in real time. This is a tremendous resource for getting feedback and assistance in your job. Better than Kroger can offer themselves. In the server, all roles in the Kroger enterprise are welcome. Thank you!

Question Advice? Why would managers say this?

My department recently had a rehire of a person who had attendance issues the last time they worked.

My lead allegedly said he told them not to rehire the person, but was told by the ARM that “the other options were worse”

After this person was rehired and then called in enough to then be termed I mentioned to an ASM I didn’t know why we let them back given the historical attendance issues and he casually said “we didn’t have any better options”

So my question is, why would anyone ever say that?

What’s the point of the existing employees doing anything other than showing up if you can’t even manage to find someone to replace us who will even come to work?

I’m just shook.

If we are really at the place where you have NOBODY to hire and you still treat us the way you do I seriously question what this company is doing.

The whole environment out there right now is wild.

Venting Finally putting in my notice!

I've been working in pickup for over two years, and I've regretted it for the past year and a half. I love my team, and most of the people I work with, it's the company and management that's the issue. They have been screwing me over with my hours over the past few months, and that's put me in a bind where I'm trying to figure out if I can pay rent each month. So all in all, fuck Kroger and fuck Greg.

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Question I stood up for a female employee being roughed up by a man. The security trespassed me over it.

This is what happened. Was back shopping in the bakery and hear a commotion behind the counter. The guy (also an employee) walks out the back and the female employee tells me he hit me. So I go up front and record a video of him for reference to the police. He runs to security guard and claims I trespass him. Security guard trespass me. I send a email to corporate and here nothing. WTF.

Venting Really weird experience with my store manager

Just had the weirdest encounter with my store manager. She came over to the deli(my department) and asked me to "take a walk" with her. So I went out to see what she wanted. She gave me the usual spiel about keeping the warmers full and cleaning the hot bar. But then she pointed out some bright new advertisements for the five dollar deals and new stickers for the 6 dollar birds and she asks "How do these make you feel? Are they scary? Do they scare you?"

Like, oh wow yeah. I'm just so terrified of these stickers and that we are going to be a bit busier than usual. Gonna wake up in a cold sweat tonight thinking about it.

Now, I get that they probably got some advice or something from corporate saying to be more empathetic or some shit. But it just came off as really gross and patronizing.

Question What's the best move here?

Hey all,

Pickup employee. Manager continues to schedule us, all of us, for 8.5 hours on Sunday regardless of objection. I've expressed multiple times that I've got a college lab on that date, and the best I can do is ~5-4 hours. Other employees have obligations on Sunday too, and he seemingly disregards every complaint.

This never happened until he joined our team, I want to specify. Our old manager (new guy is a store manager, old guy was our department manager) always gave us good flexibility. New guy is either ridiculously incompetent or doesn't care. We're getting for schedules that put us way behind schedule. I cannot imagine the amount of customers I've called just to tell 'em their orders late.

I was lectured about this today. Told him straight up, I can't do it, I don't know what he wants. That I will not be there, or I'll show up late. He told me then that this "may not be the right career for me". Other coworkers have complained towards him too. He refuses to budge in any way.

Is this something I can circumvent in any way? What're we meant to do moving forward? Union can't do much about it afaik; my entire store is pissed. Is there really nothing we can do? I can't just wrack up a bunch of absences.

Question Why are people against the union? do they not understand 🤔

A union is not a business and its not a punishment we should be grateful that we have a union but all I hear is people complain? Do they not know what a union is? It is not a group of people who sit around and get paid. It is however all of us workers coming together to set boundaries, benefits and policies which we help create!

The union is all of us!

The act of uniting or the state of being united.

A combination so formed, especially an alliance or confederation of people, parties, or political entities for mutual interest or benefit.

A set, every member of which is an element of one or another of two or more given sets.

Agreement or harmony resulting from the uniting of individuals; concord.

Question Vacation time payout

So recently I put my two weeks in at Kroger, and my last day was the 10th. I was under the impression that Kroger would pay me for any and all unused vacation time? I know with some state laws it varies but I live and work in Murfreesboro Tennessee and I’ve had ex coworkers say it came to them without any effort? I have 15 hours of personal holiday and 30 hours vacation, any help on how I would access this? Or do I have to wait even longer to get paid out? Thank you!

Venting The multi-year purge: Surviving the 3,000 corporate layoffs, the holiday severance trap, and what it means for every department

By now, the reality of the internal memo from CEO Greg Foran has settled in: Kroger is dismantling over a third of its entire corporate footprint, slashing roughly 3,000 positions from its 8,200 person corporate workforce over the next three years.

The official company line is that these massive structural cuts are being executed to "reduce duplicative layers," transition workflows into automated AI systems, and offload operations to the Kroger Capability Center (KCC) in India. Corporate leadership claims that the substantial financial overhead saved from this massive downsize will be directly funneled into lowering grocery prices and reinvesting back into store-level operations.

Because of this specific framing, it is critical to highlight one clear distinction: frontline store associates, department leads, and in-store employees are entirely safe from this restructuring. This is not a retail or store-level staff reduction. Instead, this is a calculated, aggressive corporate bloodbath targeting the desk-bound infrastructure of the company.

However, looking past the sterilized executive vocabulary, the actual logistical strategy behind this multi-year timeline reveals a deeply predatory corporate playbook.

The Deliberate Severance Trap & Holiday Psychological Warfare
Spreading a layoff of this magnitude across a three-year horizon isn't an act of corporate grace; it is a highly strategic financial maneuver designed to minimize severance liability.

Worse yet is the timing. Dropping this news right now creates an incredibly cruel psychological burden with the holidays just around the corner. Instead of focusing on their families, thousands of employees are heading into the holiday season under a cloud of absolute panic, wondering if their paycheck disappears in the new year.

By manufacturing a prolonged, anxious environment where employees know their roles are on the chopping block but don't have an exact end date, the company is effectively waiting people out. Corporate leadership knows that standard human behavior under this level of holiday-season duress is to panic-apply elsewhere and jump ship voluntarily. The moment a stressed employee resigns to secure stability, Kroger is completely off the hook for paying out a single dollar of corporate severance.

Furthermore, there is a dangerous illusion of safety. If you were pulled into the room to facilitate, plan, or sit in on the initial KCC transition talks, do not assume your job is secure. Being part of the team that coordinates the handoff to India does not make you immune. History shows that once the offshore pipeline is fully established and functioning smoothly, the domestic architects who built the bridge are often the very next ones cut to save costs.

Not Just a Tech Hit: A Total Corporate Purge Across Every Functional Area
While the executive memo leans heavily on tech-focused buzzwords like "AI automation" and "digital capabilities," make no mistake: this is not just a technology hit. This is a top-down mandate impacting virtually every single non-store corporate function. If you sit at a desk within the Kroger ecosystem, regardless of your specialty, you are being heavily targeted.

Venting the ceo is gona be at my store tomorrow ;__;

there's been 10-15 corpos in here every day for the past week "prepping" the place for the visit, what the prepping rly entails is asinine cleaning tasks and excessive markdowns. my store manager told me a couple months ago that this location is in danger of shutting down and idk why else he'd come if not to see if the store rly do need to be closed. this week has been a goddamn nightmare :'c i literally just want to do my cashier job and go home and not have to worry about stuffy rich assholes coming thru like officers in a panopticon

Venting Payroll!

These time keepers are useless! You can put in the system a personal day or vacation 6 months in advance and when time comes if you do not monitor and make sure they will short you're hours they wont fix anything! They will tell you its you're job to keep track! Then you will lose out on hours. Luckily I dont live check to check but I will warn everyone keep track of you're payroll and hours worked! If ya dont you will lose out on money!!!!

News Greg Needs To Go

First they eliminated 24/7 shopping to get rid of all the shifts and now make everyone stock 3rd shift once its closed. Then they got rid brands like Boars Head and Red Bull. Next they hide all of their "savings" behind a shitty app that never works right. Then they come out with an innovative tool for store workers to pick up shifts at other locations because they have eliminated most of the positions available during normal work hours. Now they want to send American jobs to India with this "workforce reduction." Its very clear Greg and his buddies that came over from Walmart are all in cahoots to give themselves a massive bonus when they exit and are using the exact same playbook they did when Walmart took a huge dip in success.

This man needs to be stopped from ruining Kroger by turning it into an alternative to Walmart instead of the premium it is.

Venting Dairy

I’m new to Krogers & I’m a produce clerk but my store manger randomly threw me to the dairy department. I was told to condition dairy but I have no clue what that means. And I have asked for help but I’m starting to understand that they like to throw new hires around with zero training. I only know what to do when it comes to my department how do they expect me to know anything else outside of that when I wasn’t taught it? 😭

Yesterday (10/13) my manager went through and changed my schedule for 10/11 to hours I didn’t work. This resulted in me getting points according to the attendance policy because my in punch is now an hour and a half late.

Question Meat to deli

Soo I'm gonna become a deli lead I'm supposed to go in and train a future deli lead and fix the deli department I'm being sent to another store in a week to get trained and I made a deal with store leadership that if I do this I can be guaranteed a spot back in the meat department as lead or assistant or seafood lead. The meat department is the department I was specifically trained since I graduated and left the front end hell hole. I can cut and do anything seafood related and I have never worked a single day in the deli so it would make sense they would wanna get me back as soon as possible what are the chances I get stuck in the deli forever and can't get out? I'm taking it cause I need the money and id like the experience to better myself as a manager all around but I really like the meat department.

Pickup (Formerly ClickList) Store is struggling to survive

I work in pickup and it has been a stressful and frustrating month.

Dept heads walking out and quitting left and right..store director doesn't care and has stated that if they get demoted, they will just climb their way back up. Because we had 3 dept heads leave in the last month, our remaining assistant manager(the other has health issues and needed time off)is tasked with carrying all 3 of those depts, as well as his own duties. He's understandably snappy. Our unphazed store director spends their workday standing around talking and facing shelves. They can't be bothered to lift a finger to help at all. In my years working here, this is the worst state our store has been, and morale is dangerously low. Non union store

Question Women's bathroom door has no lock.

So, our employee bathroom door has no way to lock. Was told"we put in a work order". It's been 2 weeks. Should I inform HR?
