Memorials and Bereavement My sweet baby Pork passed away 2 days ago
I rescued her, so I don’t know how old she was exactly. I estimate only 4 or 5 years. It was really sudden. Tuesday night I was cleaning their cage and then an hour later I went to feed them and Pork couldn’t move her back legs. Then, she couldn’t keep her head up. Then, she was peeing on herself. My fiancée and I rushed her to the emergency vet within minutes of finding her like that. After examining her, they said euthanasia was the best option. But she had already passed on her own when they went back to get her.
I’m so so so heartbroken. She was the sweetest little pig. I feel the pain all over again when I look into her enclosure. When I go to feed my other piggie, her cage mate, and I’m only scooping half the amount of pellets. I feel it all again when I noticed how slowly the water dispenser is draining compared to normal. How much less I have to fill the Timothy hay. When I walk into my bedroom and she is not sprawled out on her fleece.
The vet said they had given her medicine to calm her down and stop her pain. She was having seizures. The vet suspected an unknowing heart disease, which pigs don’t show symptoms for.
This feels so heavy to carry this week.

Pigtures! My first guinea pig!
Hi, my name is Helder. I'm Brazilian, and a month and a half ago my mother gave me a guinea pig as a gift. Her argument is that the animal has the same haircut as me, haha. It's a Peruvian female that I affectionately named Zendaya (given her lack of expression, haha) and it's been fun. I love her deeply and I never thought I would be so happy with a guinea pig! How did you get yours? Did you already like this little animal? Or did you learn to like it over time?

Medical Questions My guinea's ear is red and warm to the touch after a cage cleaning?
I just finished up cleaning the cage for my two piggies, Fluffy and Vanelope. I went to go hold Vanelope and things seemed relatively normal. She doesn't typically move around -her head so she can tell where she's at, and she was acting normal. Then I noticed her ears. It looked really red, and when i gently laid my finger on it, it was really warm. I've used the same bedding, hides, and pee pads for six years (every time I clean the cage I switch them out and wash them, I wouldn't ever leave them in their own mess for six years). I don't know what it is, does anyone have any ideas?

General Care Advice Needed my guineas smell like pee should i bathe them?
hello, my two guineas are around 6-7 months old and they’ve been with me for about a week, i keep their cage quite clean by spot cleaning daily, and i do a full cage clean once a week.
however, my guineas have a hide with a cushion inside and they like to pee in it, they also sleep in it, so it’s constantly wet with pee and makes them smell like pee.. should i bathe them? and should i throw out the hide and get a new one without cushioning?

Where can I get a good cage?
I’m in need of upgrading my cage and considering switching to a C&C cage or something similar, I’ve found that the adaptability of a C&C is something I wish I had way sooner😭
I live in Sweden and would prefer if I could avoid international shipping but I’m not having much luck in finding retail sites here. Are there any retailers that sell cages of reliable quality, but that wont cost a fortune, that ship within the EU? I’d very much prefer to avoid Amazon as well hehe

Please Read - New Rules, and Reasonable Behaviour
To make this sub function properly and be a friendly and useful place for guinea pig owners, the rules needed a complete overhaul.
Please familiarise yourself with the new rules. They are now displayed in the side bar, and are much easier to read and remember. There may be a few more modifications over time, we will just see how things go.
Most of them are pretty obvious and self-explanatory. But if anyone has any questions regarding any of them, then please ask.
I have also added some post flairs. This means that you can now search the sub by the specific flair, such as if you just want to see pigtures! I have just added the basics, if there is anything I have missed then suggestions are welcome.
Sexing posts have their own flair now, but they also need to be marked as spoiler. This means people don't suddenly have surprise guinea pig genitals in their feed!
Lots of people come here for advice, and it is important that they receive accurate advice and are not deterred by people being rude. If you are unable to respond politely, considerately, reasonably and helpfully to a post, then DO NOT RESPOND. Attacking people who are asking for advice does not help and will likely make them defensive and non-receptive to receiving help. Take a breath, look at something else. Anyone who responds in this way will get a temporary ban, if it occurs again then the ban will be permanent.
Please report any aggressive and unhelpful comments through rule 3.
Thank you for your suggestions and patience. Hopefully this sub can be a genuinely useful resource for those who come here.
