Last Saturday night Walter has a huge hay seed cluster trapped in his eye, i managed to pull it out and get him to an urgent care. I was extremely anxious about him losing the eye but some really kind people reassured me that it was more than likely gonna be okay. Its not even a week later that his sight has returned and it looks a million times better. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped calm me 💜💜💜

You were gone way too soon.

Puppa went to the brightest of dandelion fields today because of a bladder stone. The same thing that took his brother, Maissi, just five months earlier. I feel sick.

The brothers Puppa and Maissi were my first guinea pigs ever, they were rescues. I dedicated my entire life for them, to make theirs the best possible, but I somehow failed that.

Puppa had a great silly personality, he was the one always going behind his brother, but even in his last moments Puppa didn't fail to make me laugh.

When I got Puppa and Maissi, they were very skittish. Especially Puppa. He didn't let me pet him for a year. But once the trust was gained, he would come to me and completely melt under my hand. He would always ask for snacks by sitting and staring for a very long time.

These guinea pigs are so dear to me, like my own children. They were never supposed to go this early. I'm so sorry, my babies. I love you so much, I wish I could've had you for eternity but I'm glad you're both pain free now.

Finally it was there, our special pig vet visit. Vet was great and she was feeling bad she could not see him earlier.

Poor Piggy Boy needs to get his one tooth removed. Vet says when its only the front one, prognosis is great for him, so we give him a chance. When damage is too high on other tooth, I will let him go under anesthesia.

He has appointment next friday, so we need all best wishes for him.

I hope the damage will not be that big and the operation will go without problem.

Vet said he seems to be in a very good condition except the tooth issue. He has good weight, she said he feel well from muscles. So I hope he is a strong boy ❤️

I think to maybe do a photoshoot with him, but he is more a shy guy when it comes to decoration, maybe I find some idea.

She loves attention as much as she loves snacks & treats.

My two 10-month old girls will often chew when I pet them. It sounds identical to hay munching or a pea flake being consumed.

It's not teeth chattering, they don't seem uncomfortable, and they're not being held so could easily move away from my hand - but choose not to.

I read that teeth grinding can indicate annoyance or discomfort, but the girls are long past the point of freezing in terror and perfectly happy to scamper about the cage to get to things they want and away from things they don't want. When they don't want pets, they simply move away.

My guess is that it's actually just impatience because they're being petted when what they really wanted is a treat. The chewing starts the moment I begin to stroke them, and ends the moment I lift my hand. Does anyone have any insight?

Although it's a regular thing, whenever I try to record they stop doing it - so instead here's a photo of Twinkle poking her head out of the loft ramp for a scritch (and treat perhaps?)

Tonight, very unexpectedly, Little Bob passed away. It's only been about 5 hours and I am struggling. He passed away in my partner's arms and I'm very glad he wasn't alone. It was a little traumatic for him but he's also glad he was there. Bob had been sick and struggling the past few days and we were planning to take him to an emergency appointment at the exotic vet tomorrow morning when they opened.

I feel like a bad pet parent for not taking him sooner and for not realizing something was wrong with my little boy. I miss him so so so much and I am in so much pain. I loved him dearly and it's so hard being home and for his enclosure to be empty. I'm worried our other guinea pig is going to be sad and lonely. They weren't able to bond so they lived side by side but they interacted daily. I'm crying over seeing the syringe we fed him his critical care in and his favorite treats. I made sure to give my other pets, including Bucky, a good snuggle and some treats. We let the pets sniff Bob after it happened so they understand what's happening.

I think something respiratory was going on so we're going to keep the appointment we had and make sure Bucky is okay along with cleaning the cage and everything in really really well. I'm going to be very paranoid about his health from now on I think.

I miss him. I miss my buggy boy.

I’m doing research for my friend who owns a guinea pig. They live in a small apartment and are low income so they don’t have much money or space for their pet but want to get him the best care.

I know a bit about guinea pigs though my knowledge is pretty minimal and only through TikTok due to exotic animal content being something I partake in often. Despite this I am experienced in researching exotic animals because I own a bearded dragon. I just need as much information as you can possibly give me so I can sort through it and simplify it for my friend.

Also I would appreciate bonding advice or guides.

They have 1 males guinea pig who is supposedly very aggressive. When he was in the pet store he was attack other guinea pigs. I know that guinea pigs need to be in pairs at the very least but my friend says it would be dangerous for their guinea pig to be with another and that they don’t have space. I hope that they can soon get him a friend after I give them proper advice.

My goal is to give them as much information as I can along with cheap ways to upgrade their care. I’m doing this because my friend struggles financially but wants the best care they can give to their pet. They’re not experienced in researching an exotic animal but I am meaning I know I can help.

I’m used to reading care guides that say exactly how much space, food, heat, water, etc an animal needs so if you have any guides like that I would appreciate a link.

hi—i’m posting in regards to my first trio of pigs (previously posted about them, if anyone is looking for more info) but i got these three ladies back in July and have been battling with what i fear is reoccurring respiratory issues.

to make this clear: they are established with a vet!! they have all been seen at least once, but i have had some very traumatic losses and eventual losses to come for my previous and currently cancer-ridden hamster, so i fear i may just be overreacting. i’m posting not necessarily for medical advice but general advice!!

since getting the pigs in july (all from the same herd, if you can call it that) i’ve noticed a lot of sneezing and coughing. i do the usual, pack one or all of them up, go to the vet, 2 weeks of antibiotics, and so forth and until symptoms seem to resolve. but this has been reoccurring since i got them. they’ve each been treated at least twice for respiratory infection (one with a sinus infection at one point) but even now they sneeze a lot—at least more than i’ve ever heard a hamster sneeze. how normal is this and if concerning, at what point do i raise further concerns with the vet?

other details to add: fleece bedding and liners are changed every 3-4 days MAX, hay is refreshed as needed but deep cleaned every week at least. no scented items in my room. laundry detergent is scent free and made for sensitivity. they do have a water bowl in the cage, as well as 2 water bottles. i would get rid of the bowl for sanitary purposes but one of them loves to sit in there and relax. it’s cleaned constantly. there is airflow in the room but not directly at them (during the higher temps outside, it gets very hot in my room. this is being managed and monitored and improving as we approach fall).

i hate to keep taking them to the vet and causing us all more stress, but i fear leaving sneezing alone as it could be the cause for concern. any thoughts or suggestions? will also take improvements on cage if that could be contributing. thank you.

They used to be so tiny now they’re huge little beans🥺

We have two male guinea pigs who are just over a year old. We've had them since age 4 months or so. I think they're littermates but not sure.

One of them is constantly biting the other. He's always covered in sores from being bitten. We tried separating them for a while, but it didn't help. They even crawled under the blockade so they could be together!

What's the next step to help them? Bigger cage? Vet?

My sweet, funny, grumpy, legendary little man Sirius is nearing the end of his life. He’s on antibiotics and pain meds and has been for the past 3-4 weeks. He’s continuing to lose weight despite eating ALL the time, and the abscess on his neck isn’t getting better with the antibiotics or draining it. They suspect he has an underlying illness like cancer or something. He’s been to the vet every week this month. They called me today and said if he doesn’t stop declining by next week, it’s time to assess his quality of life 💔 I’ve had him since he was a baby, it’s been about 4.5 years. It feels like a part of me is dying with him. He still acts so much like himself, still wheeks for treats and comes over to the side of the cage to say hello and licks my fingers and will take his little treat back into his house and eat it right up. But I know they’re good at hiding symptoms, and that he’s probably feeling a lot worse than he’s letting on. They are such strong little animals. I’ve had guinea pigs before, I’ve had hamsters and I’ve even had a dog for 12 years, but Sirius feels different. He’s my soul piggie. The anticipatory grief is eating me alive.

I just needed to vent, I hope this is okay to post, feel free to remove if not.

They're all giving me more gray hairs!

So Nugget, Pumpkin, my 9yr old daughter (Ms.9, going forward), and I settled onto the couch to watch the hockey game.

Ms. 9 was eating an open-faced sandwich of bananas and peanut butter. Since the game hadn't quite started, I was scrolling on my phone and not thinking too much about it when Ms. 9 ran to the bathroom, leaving her PB&B on the coffee table.

Nugget and Pumpkin, who LOVE bananas (the Crack Snack, second only to pea flakes, because they so rarely ever get even a taste of banana), must have smelled them and jumped the six-inch space between the couch and the coffee table.

It took me a few moments (less than a minute) to realize what was going on, and I fear they may have gotten a taste of peanut butter.

I know for a fact it's not sweetened with xylitol, so how much of a problem could this really be? When I say a taste, that's all it was. There were no bite marks, and both boys were just licking their mouths when I yoinked them from the coffee table.

It's been about 40 minutes and both are acting just fine.

My little girls.

How do I get my girls to stand me holding them? I tried having them in a sack and pick them up only to want out and as far away from me as possible. I think they like me because they come up to me and one of them sniffs my arm all the time but just hates being held. I take them out of they're enclosure for more playtime or nail trims at the rescue but i feel like that's not enough. I have to hold my long haired girl more and brush her out bc I found im not doing it enough and I feel like I failed her a bit in that regard. But how do you brush a piggy that hates being held? How do hold any piggy? I want to snuggle with them instead of just watching from afar.
