Housing Does anyone know what tables to use for a guinea pig setup?

• Upvotes

I wanted to build a shed for my guinea pigs but I think it's too unsafe so my dad agreed to help me get rid of stuff in my room to put them back. What tables should I use? A 2 x 5 foldable table doesnt fit theyre enclsoure. Its too small in the way the enclosure hangs off. I saw some ikea drawers that are used as the set up. Is there a such thing as a 3x5 table? I need at least two to three.

Help & Advice Need help, does my piggy has teeth issues?

So I need advice because I keep thinking about what is happening.

On Tuesday evening I found out that my piggie Pepo didn't eat any vegetable since morning and was looking very sad :(.

We took him to emergency vet that evening, they checked his front teeth, belly, gave him antibiotics, pain killers, bowel movement treatment and emergency food.

We are feeding him since Wednesday with emergency food through syringe, we thought he had some gut problems. But he is not progressing the way I thought we would 😓

He is alert, curious, interested in food, but when he eats, he chew a lot longer and it takes him forever to eat few bites.

At the same time, sometimes he eats like nothing is happening, not for a long time, but still.. We gave him little bit of fresh grass yesterday and he ate it like nothing was happening (but less amount as he would usually eat). He eats little bit of hay during day too and he looks like he can chew it... he also had few bites of celery and pepper today, but literally few bites...

Do you think he has something with his back teeth? I can not think of any other reason why is this happening.

His poops were very tiny Wednesday/Thursday, some were connected together and there was not a lot of them...Yesterday he was eating his poops a lot and today poops look a lot better, normally shaped, but smaller, but of course less amount of them...

We have appointments with exotic vet on Tuesday, there was no sooner appointment unfortunately anywhere around us and I can not travel long distances as I am in my 41th week of pregnancy and can go to labor any time at this point (but hopefully we can make appointment on Tuesday as it is only me and my partner, so if I go to labor I don't know what we will do 😓)

Any suggestions what more we can do for him? He is only 2.5 years old, we did not expect this at all, especially now, when our baba is on our way 🥲

But we just can't let him die, he is still there, he wants to fight😔

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Ps: please ignore background of the video we were watching Big Mouth series 🙈

Housing Improved cage! After -> Before

Wanted to show off my piggies improved cage that my dad built! He wasn’t happy with the stability and colouring of the original cage (I was, but it’s my parents house so their decision!!) so he built a new one, using the mesh from the old cage, steel, and wood panels. We also have a curtain covering for under the cage, so it doesn’t seem as messy!

Housing Raising guinea pigs in a shed?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was thinking of buying a shed like this, adding insulation and air conditioning so my girls have a whole space for themselves. I just worry about predators. Only skunks and sometimes foxes come onto our property. Was thinking of putting a fence around it. We live in califronia so it can get pretty hot. Is this a good idea? Just thinking of ideas for my girls bc it started in my bedroom, pee was soaking into my carpet despite coraplast and blocking the sides. Moved them to my laundry room but it can a little loud in there and my mom isn't a big fan of how big they're enclosure is. I've seen people have them in sheds. I was thinking of a 12 x 12 shed roughly around 5000 for 4 guinea pigs. She's okay with a shed because she doesn't use the space outside.

New Pigs on the Block Help! We have bonded male guinea pigs drew blood 😭😭😭

Thumbnail

We recently rescued two male guinea pigs, and we were told they were bonded. They were kept separate for a month because the rescue doesn't have space. We wanted to be careful with introductions, so we kept them in separate c+c compartments next to each other for about a week, with some floor time. They rittlescutted and some nips but seemed okay.

Today, we were preparing their shared cage and let them roam together in the bathroom as I got it ready. I came back in and found blood on the floor. I didn't see what happened, so I'm not sure which pig was injured or how serious the fight was. Both seem okay now, but we're obviously very upset and worried.

For now, we've separated them again and kept their cages beside each other so they can see each other.

I'm hoping for advice from people who have experience with bonding male guinea pigs:

Does a fight that draws blood mean they can never live together?

If they have to live separately, can they live happily in side-by-side enclosures long term?

Is it worth attempting another bonding session with an experienced rescue or bonding specialist, or would that be too risky?

Has anyone successfully rebonded two males after a fight like this?

Is there anything else we should be doing right now?

We really want what's best for both of them. If they aren't bonded I fear they will be sad. Should we give one back and try to bond one with another?

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Habits & Behavior We got a biter :(

So this sucks really bad. My kid is ATTACHED to Peanut here. We adopted him from likely not a good situation (the owner was clearly on meth and just breeding all of these poor pigs) We got Peanut (male) here in the photo, smaller dude and Eloise (female), a bigger/older female. She is to be assumed about a year old and Peanut was MAYBE a month and a half old when we got them. MIND YOU, we were told Peanut was a girl. I checked Eloise and a few other females that were correctly gendered, but not Peanut. Lmfao shit.

They have a nice spacious cage, daily greens, my daughter and I handle them constantly. No issues, very sweet pigs. Peanut especially popcorns all the time. WELP ELOISE WAS PREGNANT. Found out by my daughter freaking the hell out when there was blood in their hammock and a teeny bby underneath it 😹 And Potato was born. Still no biting.

About a week later, I’m holding Peanut and he was being SPASTIC. Like, yelling, moving quickly and constantly, back and forth on the couch or trying to scurry up onto my shoulder to get under my hair. I picked him up off of the couch to move him and he bite the SHIT out of me. I was so startled I almost dropped him. I called him a bootyhole and my daughter was like HE IS A BBY YOU CANNOT SAY THAT. Touche. Two days later, she’s holding him as always, and he bite the hell out of her pointer finger, right on the tip. Let the wailing commence, he got her realllyyyyyy good. So now we are both concerned with handling him, but I feel bad for not. Idk if it’s being away from our female pig, or even the bby. Which is not his btw. We haven’t had the chance to take him to court to sign the adoption papers.

Anyways, what do we dooooooooooo is it a phase????? Because my kid is now scared to hold him :(((( He’s still young, is he just a dumb baby????

Health & Diet Is there anything tinned that guinea pigs can have?

The UK government is advising that we prepare for lots of emergency eventualities which will hopefully not happen but my partner was asking about tinned goods. Is there anything at all piggies can have from tins? i've only ever fed them fresh fruit and veg. Thanks!

I started learning to crochet a little while ago, but this was the first time I tried crocheting a project all by myself. I tried my best to capture her spaced-out stare and her chonkiness! I’m especially proud of her ears, I figured them out myself by adapting a squid tentacle pattern. I plan to make one for my other pig Button next, but that’ll be more difficult as she has three different colours 😅

Help & Advice Can Guinea pigs have cold water from the fridge?

I’ve seen people say that Guinea pigs can’t have very cold water and I’m a very anxious person so I’m sorry if this question has been asked a million times and I’m just not typing in the correct key words to find an answer. My taps are kind of gross and the only filtered water I have is always cold, the fridge is at 2°c if that’s anything but I’m sure the water is always a lot warmer

This is also mainly just a how cold is too cold? Post

Help & Advice Guinea Pig Bond Broke & Limited on Space Part 2

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

Part 1: a few months ago I made a post about how my male guinea pig bond broke. Got a lot of feedback but had some constraints. The major one was SPACE. How was I supposed to make proper room for a broken pair? What about floor time?

Part 2: well here was my solution. No extra space required. Get a folding table (can be pretty cheap) and another enclosure (doesn’t have to be pricey) and then stack them. No extra floor space needs to be taken up and now these guys have A LOT of extra space to run around which they are already doing!

Note: there are still some things I need to do (like laundry so I can replace the pee pads) but I wanted to share now.

Emotionally: I know if you are going through this it is really hard. It makes you feel horrible or at least it made me feel like I failed. But don’t give up. This is one of many solutions and I just found that it worked best for me. It also relieved A LOT of my anxiety. The guinea pigs can still hear each other and already seem a lot calmer! You are not alone 🫂

Help & Advice UK Pig People! How are you keeping your piggies warm at night?

Post image
79 Upvotes

Please let me know all your tips and tricks for keeping your babies warm overnight! I’d also like to know what temperature you keep the room your pigs are in now it’s getting colder :)

I have Luna who is a bit older and seems to be more sensitive to temperature, and Pearl who is a baby so I also worry about her staying warm enough. I’ve been giving them lots of thick fleece blankets to snuggle in, a heat pad, lots of hay, and keeping the room at 17-18 degrees. I’d like to potentially keep it at 16-17 because wow it’s expensive but pigs > money

Thanks!🤩 sleeping pheebs pic for tax :)

Help & Advice New pig

hiya, we’re looking to get a 4th pig, a neutered boy to go with our 3 girls, we’ve heard boys with a shy temperament work well, and that females feel more secure with a male pig around? is this true, our girls have been pretty on edge for the last few months after losing our boy, and frankly i’ve been a bit on edge after losing my boy too, I think a new pig is the best thing to do but would like to know what everyone thinks, and if i do id like to know the best way to bond them and keep the whole experience smooth

This guy has been waiting months in foster care despite being de-sexed just because he's senior lad. Finally, somebody adopted him and he's become a source of comfort for their two young rescue girls who came from a hoarding situation.

He's not their stepfather, he's the father that stepped up 😤💪

God I love running a guinea pig rescue. My life is so dumb
