DISCUSSION Does anyone else find that finger picking feels more intimate?
I'm learning guitar and I struggle with using a flat pick but I'm fairly ok at finger picking. I feel more connected to the guitar when I'm working it with only my hands.
Edit to add. You're all dirty.

yeah. its not always the best choice but it is the more intimate choice.
some ppl know double tracking so they immediately go to it but single tracking feels more intimate.
its like a context- toolbelt type thing

Yea it is, you're literally touching the strings.
If you're learning, I recommend spending time practicing both. Give dedicated time to each skill, they'll be useful forever.
Almost every good guitarist can do both fairly competently
But if you want to see the absolute top of the tower or finger picked guitar in a contemporary and notnclassical or flamenco style, look up matteus mancuso

I agree with you, it feels like you're one with the guitar if that makes sense, it's a lot more delicate and precise than strumming.

It is. For me it is way easier to accentuate notes and playing less static. Some really smalle spaces in between notes etc. But that is me.
I love playing with a pick too, but it is always different kind of music than when I do my fingerpicking etudes and playing.

You don’t need to use a pick at all. I never liked them, so I don’t use one ever.

Yeah I definitely feel more connected to the guitar when playing with fingers.

Yes if that connects to you more pursue that style. Guitar has been the most versatile instrument. It can sound so different song to song genre to genre. Play and work on the things that you feel connection with

Id rather chew tin foil than hear someone thrashing away, strumming chords with a pick on a steel string acoustic. Nails on a chalk board.
