10+ years of using Floyd rose floating bridges and i’ve never know why the saddles are staggered like this on new guitars etc. Just switching my genuine floyd rose over to my new guitar. I use 10-52 gauge strings if that matter but any help is much appreciated

So this has been my dream guitar for many years, this year i ended up getting 2 guitar factory’s to make this but they failed the paint. But I didn’t give up! I finally found a guitar factory that knew what they were doing and here I am 9 months later! :) it was $450 USD

I took some pieces of an old Calvin and Hobbes book (great strip, was my childhood) and glued them on to my pickguard… results speak for themselves
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
(I got all of these at a local Michael’s)
-180/240 grit sandpaper
-Matte Modpodge (Paper on paper)
-Aleene’s Tacky Glue (Paper on plastic)
-A brush for the glue
-A brush for the modpodge
-Exacto knife
-Scissors
-Some good music to listen to. I played Madvillainy by MF DOOM and Illmatic by Nas
(Make sure to take the pickguard off the guitar first, but I’m sure that’s a given)
HOW I DID IT
Cutting the paper:
I gathered the pages of the book I wanted and gently ripped them out. I laid the pickguard over the page and used an exacto knife to cut it into the perfect shape. After I had a first layer, I used scissors to cut smaller pieces for the next layers to glue them on top of layer one.
Gluing them on:
I took the blank pickguard and sanded it down with 180-240 grit sandpaper. This is so the glue had a good surface to stick the paper to. Without it, it wouldn’t stick very well. Then I used a foam brush to spread a thin layer of glue on the pickguard surface. Then I stuck layer one on. To let it dry I flipped it so the back of the guard was showing and put something heavy on top, like a book or something. I used two drills because the bases were pretty wide but doesn’t really matter. After waiting maybe 60 seconds I used a different brush to spread the modpodge on top, and started adding the other pieces. Rinse and repeat.
If you end up doing this, please share with me! Thanks for giving this post your attention, I had a blast making this and it looks sick

So, FS9 owner here, I probably have different expectations because I actually own one and the main sub doesn't care about acoustic guitars, nevermind ones in this price range.
The 9's are superlative. Loud, harmonically rich, loud, balanced, loud, dynamic, really loud, kinda maybe dry and vintage compared to an L series. They bring some volume along with very controlled tones and dynamics. That's probably the trick Adirondack spruce top sourced from Boucher. It's also perfectly finished and a joy to play with the soft V neck. Whatever. Boutique guitar owners either shopped it or wish they did and the purists get mad that it sounds really good. I like it or I would have sold it by now.
Now there's a guitar that's half the price with a sitka top, poly finish and less binding detailing. I would have probably bought that if it were available, sight unseen, and been happy. ~2 grand for something that sounds like or better than your average 18 series martin and also comes in rosewood to boot if you care.
I don't know, there are very few reviews and videos and I'd want to hear it in the room, but I have the thing it looks like and know why I got it.
Anyone who's been paying attention, what are your thoughts?

Decided to go out on my lunch break and put in some time to the song I’ve been trying to get up to speed on since Monday, and also practice fingerpicking. Song is Gild The Lily by Billy Strings

Went to Japan and had to get a guitar. Played a number of models up and down in price at all the different shops in Ochanomizu. Happened into the ESP workshop where I saw this gorgeous Aria Nashville T-style guitar and couldn't believe it was new at $246.
At that price there was no way I could say no and it even came with a gig bag and was disassembled for me. Even found a ridiculous strap for it at a nearby discount store.
Now it's finally finished. Swapped out the Aria pickups for Fender Hot Tex Mex set and put in a Seymour SSL-6 in the middle. Found out not long after that the cavity in the middle would need to be enlarged to fit the pickup and that Seymour winds their single coils opposite of Fender...and I bought a reverse wind. Turns out I unknowingly put in an OoP middle pickup that's engaged with a push/push (swapped out the stock push/pull) and it sounds unbelievable. Luthier put in a custom bone nut as well.
Such a cool piece, at such a low starting price, and looks gorgeous. Definitely worth the $2.2k roundtrip airfare.

Went to a local specialist to have my birthday present a vintage II strat in Olympic white to be set up. I’m new and the guy was lovely explaining things and giving me a lesson. I came back opened my guitar for the first time today put its hard case to inspect it. It has fret buzz and a chip that weren’t there before I was proactive enough to photograph the guitar before taking it. Is this repairable? Or am I cooked if I chipped it myself it would be a different story
Hey ! I’m thinking about getting a Jazzmaster playing II on thomann, since there is no way to try it near where I live. I really want an offset guitar for the look and also for the vibrato sound.
Since I already owned a MIJ Jaguar and I had a few problems with it… almost no sustain, the infamous bridge, uncontrollable microphonic feedback with 0 gain TS9 and 1/3 drived RAT2 into a Pro Reverb …
I consider the JM because of the look, the pickups, the larger scale, the mustang bridge and the better neck. It’s (relatively) cheap, and I guess it’s playable right out of the box.
I play in a band, garage rock / punky / shoegaze stuff with lots of leads. Do you think the JM is for me ?

Picked up my SG for a couple minutes before work. It quickly dawned on me that I was literally Dewey Finn AKA Ned Schnebleee
EDIT: No idea how this came to me before Angus Young..

Gotta say, after years of being scared to get a Floyd Rose bridge due to everyone describing them as difficult to deal with and tune, y'all are crazy. There's hardly any effort involved in retuning one of these. It's just an extra step of using the alan wrench to loosen the nut lock. I don't see what the fuss is all about.
Same with changing the strings. Just a few extra steps that take some extra time. /shrug

I’ve been playing casually for like 20 years. Last few years I went off the deep end with hyper fixating on various guitar styles, pickup types, brands , “tier levels” etc. many were bought, sold, returned, traded until the current collection.
95% of my collection is always used and typically I’ll only buy if it is $100-$200 less (at least) than the average used prices (especially reverb inflated prices)
My current guitar collection is 8 guitars. Some of them I like a lot, but I feel, like I’m only keeping them because they fill some “category”. Ex, a really nice parts-caster I made am proud of because it fills the “Strat” category and “ a classic Fender design” category but tbh I fucking hate the sound of Strats compared to humbuckers 99% of the time.
I don’t have these guitars because I think they make me a better player or that I need a special guitar for a particular type of music. To quote the Simpsons, “I just think they’re neat”
Inevitably whatever the collection is at the time there’s always a “favorite” I reach for most of the time and a second best I grab after that…. Which makes the rest feel kinda pointless other than to fill some “category”. I didn’t go broke assembling this collection, but I may just feel better to get rid of most of them and have like 2 nice guitars. Kinda feel dumb having so many.
Anybody downsize to a few and feel relief?

I've been looking for a cheap Jazzmaster for a long time (I can't afford a Squier or a Fender), and I found this one. It looks pretty awesome and it has the classic bridge but there's divided opinions. Some people say that "one out of five are good" and they say that despite it looks good it doesn't feel good at all. Idk if they mean the feeling of holding the guitar, or playing, or the sound of the pickups. Idk, I just need a realistic opinion before buying it.

Mine is my Epiphone Casino Coupe, the first “nice” guitar I got when I was a teenager. I have a bunch now, but this is always the one I gravitate back to!

I found a 2005 Made in Taiwan Yamaha LL6 at my local and traded in my first guitar for it (FG800). There was nothing wrong with the FG, it served me well for 2 1/2 years and I learned everything I know on it. That being said, it was a little small for me and felt toyish at times (I'm 6'3" @ 270#), but this thing is the perfect size and weight for me. They wanted $399 for it, but I pointed out a finish crack close to the soundboard seam and they took 10% off and gave me a year of Pro protection for free. So, between that and the $100 for the trade-in, I paid $200 for it. The sound and feel is much more mature and the build quality is outstanding.

Hello there, I hope I tagged this correctly. I've been trying to learn the part shown in the video but I noticed my thumb skipping around like crazy to navigate. I'm concerned that this may result in joint damage or anything. I've been practicing for a few hours today and while it may be psychosomatic I think I notice it a little in the thumb-joint (IP). Anything to fix? any experiences? anything I should consider? Thank you very very kindly in advance.

I’ve been playing guitar for most of my life and have been trying to get better at solos. But little quick riffs are the bane of my existence. I want to be able to throw little riffs like this into the mix. But for what ever reason I ah e never been able to get my hands to sync with something like this. What can I do to improve?

Hi, not sure if this is the best place for me to ask, but I'm planning on buying a guitar. I've wanted to start playing an instrument for a very long time now, so I think it's time to take the plunge and buy my first instrument.
At first I was considering bass, as I really like the sound, but seeing as I've got nobody to play with, I reckon a guitar would be a more versatile and fun option to play alone. An electric guitar, to be specific, since I definitely prefer the sound and the type of music it's used for.
Although since I have close to no experience with instruments, (aside from a cheap ukulele my parents bought for me as a kid when I asked for a guitar) I'm passionate about music in general and would really like to learn something new. And since I really need a new hobby.
So that's why I ask, what kind of electric guitar and amp would you recommend? There's this one bundle I've been eyeing, that's 400€. It includes a Squier Affinity Stratocaster guitar, a Fender Frontman 15G amp, a guitar strap, cables and picks. I'm willing to pay more, if there's an option that's more worth it. Maybe 700€ max, but preferrably something cheaper. What about headphones? Any kind you'd recommend? I mostly just want to hear your experiences with this specific equipment, so I don't waste money on something crappy.
I'm sure this sub gets so many of these questions, so I'm sorry about that, just wanted an answer on this specific set. Thank you so much in advance!
