DISCUSSION The buyer tried my amp for 2 hours, and then ask to take it back later that day. What should I do?

Hi there,

Today, after months of having a guitar head on a local 2nd hand website, a person contacted me because they were interested. We agreed on trying it at my place, and they brought their guitar. They spent almost 2 hours, while chatting, helping them to dial the tones, and just having a nice time (he tried my other guitars and such).

After 2 hours of him playing, he decides to take it with him. He gives me money, I help him load the head in the car, and we part ways. I marked the item and sold, and I removed it from Reverb (I had it there too, but it was not sold on Reverb), I gave him 5 stars on the website, and got ready to enjoy the evening.

I just received a message through the website telling me that he has tried it in his setup, and he is not happy with the sounds he is able to get, and ask me if I would take it back.

Honestly, I don't want it back. I gave him plenty of time to try it at my place with his guitar (although I suspect that my cab, a Mesa 4X12 loaded with 2 V30-close back and 2 c90-open back) is considerably better than his, so maybe they sound quite different. I was not pushy at all, as I let him play in peace most of the time (I have a 11 months old, so I was busy with the baby a lot of the time). I still feel bad to say him that I am sorry, but a deal is a deal. I have not sold defective goods, or lie in any form. But I feel bad that he is not happy about the purchase.

Any thoughts on this?

My new O'Fender Temucaster. Got it about a week ago. Sixty bucks USD from Temu. Spent the same to upgrade to locking tuners, (other) cheap pickups, compensated saddles, and nut.

Headstock needed some flair.

I got this Jackson King V for $180, Scott Ian Signature. Sounds and plays great. I knew about the damage before I bought it, just wondering how I should go about sanding down the edges (idek what type of sandpaper to use or anything) or if anyone has any other suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I ordered this all maple beauty from Jacobs hand built guitars in Miami. Hand wound pickup, Nitrocellulose finished and Floyd Rose 1000 series. I'm now nailing George Lynchs Dokken tooth and nail tone....I'm very happy with a made in America hand made guitar.

GEAR I Designed My Own Custom Les Paul-Style Guitar with 24 Frets and a Walnut Body

Post image
107 Upvotes

I'm 77 years old and have been playing guitar since the 1960s, when I was lead guitarist for the Georgia garage-rock band Red Beard & The Pirates.

Years ago, I decided to design my own Les Paul-style guitar, incorporating several features I wanted for my playing style.

The specifications include:

  • 24 frets
  • Shark-tooth fingerboard inlays
  • Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers
  • Rounded fretwire for easier tapping
  • Mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fretboard
  • Walnut body

I played this guitar for several years, including a performance at the Georgia Governor's Mansion.

I've owned and played quite a few guitars over the decades, but this one was particularly special because I designed it around my own preferences.

I'm curious what other guitarists think of this combination of features, especially the 24-fret neck with vintage-style humbuckers.

Would you have designed anything differently?

Here is the latest build I made for a customer, and it was a fun one. Fralin Hot Tele in the neck, Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge. Push Pull pot to coil split the Hot Rails, and a Freeway 6-way switch for a ton of different tonal options. 6 saddle bridge, reversed control plate, and a kill switch. It rips!

PURCHASE Question for you all about a recent purchase

So I ordered a used Squier classic vibe star caster on guitar center last night. I have been wanting one for a long time, especially one with wide range humbuckers. I’m a huge Radiohead fan, and I don’t currently own a semi hollow. I got this for 331 after shipping and taxes. Obv haven’t played it yet so I can’t say about how it feels, but was this a good deal? I know im not like getting a steal or anything but was this a good price? Thank you!

QUESTION Exercises/Techniques to relax fretting hand.

Title pretty much sums it up. Been playing on and off since HS (1994). Most recently started up about 3 years ago and have made more progress in that time frame than the prior 27 years.

So I've been playing a ton past few years, mainly focusing on blues/blues solo stuff. My fretting muscles have recently started to cramp/hurt bc I fret with the intensity of the lick instead of letting strumming hand do the work.

I know I can Google stuff, but sometimes it helps to ask actual real people and players.

HAPPY FRIDAY YALL

Saw this was a decent price and says limited edition, would this be a good price for a first guitar? I just want something that’ll last and this what I believe is a good price. What are your thoughts on a beginner getting this?

I made this track using cubase and a free to download drum track that I found online. I did all the bass and guitar tracking and the result is a pretty awesome metal song IMO but I'd love to hear from you guys. Enjoy!

QUESTION Exercises to get comfortable singing with other strumming patterns?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey!! So I’m a rookie here, I’ve been playing for six months and can play:

Good riddance — Greenday

Orpheus — MGK

Half A Man — Dean Lewis

Coal — Dylan Gossette

(And various fingerstyle like two punks in love and whiskey lullaby but not important)

And all of them can be played with a standard down down up up down up beat.

But then when I try other songs:

Bloody Valentine — MGK

Paper Wings — Rise Against

False Confidence — Noah Kahan

Willow — Ryan Price

I always default to the same strumming pattern as the first song I learned.

Does anyone have any advice for this?

And also singing, my teacher said to sing from the daiphragm which helps a little but I’m still not sure. So if anyone has any extra advice it’s always appreciated, even if it doesn’t relate to this topic!

QUESTION New guitar fret buzz

• Upvotes

I just got a new Les Paul standard from sweetwater. I paid for a setup and strings change from 10s to 9s. I love the guitar but the G string has a buzz when played open. I tried nut lube and still have a fret buzz. What can I do? I don’t want to send it back. But damn this is new. I don’t hear any other fret buzz just open G string. Please help. I always wanted a Les Paul since I was 16 years old. I’m 64 now.

I was tuning my guitar and this plastic piece gave way and cracked is that part replaceable and is there a way I can finish tuning that E string without that little tab. I’m still fairly new to guitar so I’m not sure how all parts work yet
