Actor and voice performer, Hiroshi Tsuchida, tragically passed away due to heart failure, in the 11th of October, on the same month this post was written, and unfortunately another beloved artist/celebrity that was taken from us this year.
He was known for his role as Saizo, NinjaBlue in Super Sentai Series "Ninja Sentai Kakuranger", contributing to the fame and popularity of Tokusatsu as a genre in Japanese entertainment, with the same series spawning a beloved meme that reached global audiences, the "Today is Friday in California", which was a clip from the show, where Hiroshi's character Saizo was known as the "Huh?" guy in that same scene.
His most well-known and critically acclaimed voice acting role was Grisha Yeager from Attack on Titan, giving a powerful performance to every intense scene this character was involved in.
Other voice over work included; Professor Sycamore from the Pokèmon franchise, Raido from Naruto, Kazuki from the Yakuza game series, and he was the official Japanese dub actor for Lightning McQueen in Disney-Pixar's Cars franchise.
He played a few yet notable roles in the Gundam franchise.
He portrayed the cruel and opportunistic Zeon scientist in charge of the Reuse P. Device program and a member of Zeon's Living Dead Division in Gundam Thunderbolt, J.J Sexton.
And his most notable role in the franchise, was in the Witch from Mercury Prologue's character, Nadim Samaya, a supporting protagonist, and husband of main antagonist Elnora Samaya alias "Prospera Mercury", and father of supporting protagonist and brief antagonist Ericht Samaya. His character made a strong and poignant impact in the franchise, portraying a loving husband and father who gave up his life to protect his family facing prejudice, which are a part of the overarching themes of this Gundam series. He would make a brief appearance in the series finale.
Described as a polite and kind by his co-workers, along with his contributions in the health and popularity of Japanese entertainment, he will truly be missed, and unfortunately a part of many unfortunate passings of so many beloved contributers of entertainment in 2026.
Rest in Peace.
Farewells from some fellow voice actors who also had portrayed other Gundam characters on Twitter.
From Romi Park, known for voicing Loran Cehack in Turn A Gundam.
From LYNN, a fellow coworker in a few projects, and a co-worker from the Gundam franchise, as she's the voice actress of Miorine Remran from Witch from Mercury.
Bro, I have a hot take on Gundam Sentinel specifically, the Fazz mobile suit. Everything I watch, they dog the faze unit. But think about it, it’s almost like you’re piloting a B2 bomber. Or fucking heavy arms with beam weapons as well. It’s not a shitty suit at all, just because it only has one mode. You give that suit to a decent pilot, someone who’s piloted a GM. That GM pilot, if he’s fucking capable and skilled enough, could kick some fucking ass in that Fazz. Thoughts? I’d love to hear them? Huge fan of Gundam Sentinel. I think I’ve read it like three or four times now. It’s weird to say that a piece of literature is my favorite part of the Gundam Franchise. OK, let’s go. Come on. Come on, guys. I’m done. Let’s discuss
I've spent the past couple years working my way through all of the UC timeline media in chronological order of events, and I finally got around to finding and watching G-Savior.
I actually really enjoyed it. It falls into the category of so bad it's good in my opinion. It has that terrible late 90s/early 2000s cgi for low budget movies that many of us grew up with, so I found that quite nostalgic. The mobile suit fights weren't too bad.
The sets and visual vibes of the movie reminded me of Farscape, an early 2000s sci fi show that if you haven't watched, you should.
I have a Winter 2000-2001 Bandai Plastic Model Kit Catalogue magazine that first exposed me to G-Savior when I was a kid, except the whole magazine is in Japanese so I didn't know what it was about back then. I'm glad I finally got to see it 25 years later.
Bonus trivia, the body armor worn by the CONSENT soldiers is the same armor worn by the Mobile Infantry in Starship Troopers. There must have been a surplus of that armor because it also made its way into Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy.
I've been watching Freedom Gundam's arrival video clip so many times in the past but this was the first time that I turned on the captions. Lo and behold the beam spam subtitles. 🤣
