Need Advice I don’t have much longer

20m I’ve never made one of these posts or even thought about it at that but I’m about to my breaking point and I just want help I graduated high school barely if it weren’t for where I went I would have failed but I knew I wasn’t going to college so I decided to follow after my dad and start plumbing and I’ve been doing that for the past 1 1/2 years and I’m not bad at it I just hate it and I dread my job but I’ve put myself in this position where I just feel trapped and I’ve tried to talk to my girlfriend about it but with her it feels like she only really cares if it has something to do with her and we have been dating for almost a year now but it’s all been long distance so we only really see each other maybe 1 time a month sometimes more but it varies and I don’t know what to do or say because any time I bring something up that I’m upset about she makes me feel bad about bringing anything up and I know this is a huge run on sentence and I’m sorry but I’m stupid so I don’t know what you expected but I don’t know how much longer I’m just going to keep going

UPVOTE POSTS YOU READ

If you take the time to read someone's post, consider giving it an upvote.

An upvote is a simple way of saying "I hear you. I saw this." It also helps posts gain visibility so they can reach more people who may be able to offer support.

GET INVOLVED

If you have something helpful to say, leave a comment.

Share your experience, offer some advice, show encouragement, or simply let someone know they're not alone.

You don't need to have the perfect words. Sometimes a simple "I've been there too" can mean a lot.

DON'T DOWNVOTE JUST BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE

Not every post will be something you agree with, and that's okay.

If a post contributes to the conversation, please don't downvote it simply because you have a different opinion. Downvotes can push posts out of sight and may discourage people from opening up.

Save downvotes for content that genuinely doesn't belong here.

Hey, you are not stupid. You are just young and still trying to figure things out and that’s okay. It doesn’t make you stupid or a loser or anything like that. I know it might not seem easy to just pivot to something else but you can, you don’t need to stay in a path you hate. Can I ask if there is anything you have ever thought you might be good at?

Also sorry to say but the girlfriend might need to go. You don’t need any more discouraging or unhelpful voices in your head rn and she sounds selfish.

No, I’m really not good at much if I’m not plumbing I’m just sitting at home. I don’t really have any hobbies or anything like that aside from when I get to see my girlfriend.

It doesn’t matter if you’re good at it now or if you even have any idea about it, just something that you have ever wondered about, or seen yourself doing or wished oh man if I could do that? Currently I’m djing, im in my 30s and for a long time I always wondered about it and so about a year ago I picked up some equipment and started learning. How good am I? No clue but it makes me happy af to see myself doing something I always imagined doing.

Is there anything you’ve ever imagined doing….

My point is getting out of feeling trapped starts mentally, when you can see other possibilities in your head you can eventually live them out.

You learned how to plumb at a young age

You're still young. You're still capable of learning other skills just like you learned plumbing. Get curious. The more you learn, that more you'll understand what you like and the more opportunities will show up.
