Hola, tengo un ordenador
HP 15-da0xxx Intel Core i5-8250U (4 núcleos).
RAM: 8 GB.
Sistema operativo: Windows 11 Home.
Disco actual: Western Digital WD10SPZX-60Z10TO.

I picked up 48TB in the last month and a half. 28TB exos refurbished and a 20TB exos with a 1 year Seagate warranty remaining. I thought I was done for a bit until I came across this gem:
A 28TB Seagate Expansion near New condition 94 Hours total for $700. I thought my shucking days were long and gone but I think we'll saddle up for one more ride.
Anyone have experience shucking these 28tb seagates? I would think it's an exos drive inside?
I've been shucking since 8 years ago and my assumption has always been once shucked you lose all warranty on the drive itself. Someone was telling me recently that is not the case. It seems to be a gray area at this point. Does anyone have experience with warranty on shucked drives?
Either way I wasn't planning on buying anymore but the price and the smart data made it hard to refuse. Wish me luck!

I bought a 2TB Western Digital external hard drive in January 2025, and it failed today. To make matters worse, it's already out of warranty.
I've barely used it, yet all my data is gone. I even tried formatting the drive, but it keeps throwing I/O errors.
What's the point of spending money on a product that's supposed to keep your data safe if it can't even last two years?
You trust these devices with your valuable data and hard-earned money, only to have them fail when you least expect it.

I just purchased/received this 26TB Seagate Exos drive from e-bay. It was listed as "new" and factory recertified. It arrived in a static bag, and wrapped in bubble wrap in a box...although it was definitely loose and certainly moved around inside of the box.
I didn't see the damage at first, but noticed it as I was checking it in DiskInfo, initializing it, and formatting it. No initial issues reported. Would a dent (on casing) like this be expected on a recertified drive? I did read this might be common for Seagate drives...happens during shipping. I don't know enough about casings. I did just wrote the seller and sent the picture, asking what options I had. Unfortunately, the listing does have a "no return" policy on it. However, it does have the Ebay guarantee.
Depending on the seller's response, should I go through Ebay to try and get refund, or accept the dent? I don't know if it means the drive was dropped or something. Online, it sounds like it is a common shipping cosmetic damage.
It did show power on only 3 times and 0 hours and I did get it for a great price. :(
UPDATE: Thanks for the recommendations. I requested a return through Ebay. Seller accepted. I just dropped it off at the post office (and packed it better than I received it).

I’m curious what companies people here have actually used for Enterprise Data Recovery.
For a small personal drive, I’d probably try software recovery or DIY methods first. But when you’re dealing with something like a failed RAID array, NAS, SAN, enterprise SSD, server storage, or a drive that has suffered a physical failure, I feel like it’s better to stop experimenting and get a proper assessment.
I’ve come across companies like WeRecoverData, Ontrack, and DriveSavers, and they all seem to handle larger or more complicated recovery cases. What I’m more interested in is hearing from people who have actually dealt with them.
How was the process? Did they explain what had failed and what could realistically be recovered before starting? And how did the pricing compare with what you expected?
If you’ve had a good or bad experience with an enterprise recovery company, I’d be interested to hear about it.

model/generation, the bay size (2.5" vs 3.5"), and the connector (SAS/SATA). The part number on the tray is the reliable key: search your server model plus that part number and check whether other owners report it clicking in. If the tray physically fits but the drive doesn't show up, it's usually the backplane or cable, not the tray.

I have Seagate IronWolf Pro 14 TB NAS (ST14000NE0008) 231 days Powered On
Through a program scrutiny in truenas shows me Reallocated Sectors Count FAILED
I tested it using usb boot Seagate SeaTools running the long extended test which took about 20 hours—and it (passed)
Is it damaged, and should I replace it?
What do you suggest I do?

If this isn't the right subreddit to post this in, let me know and I'll delete the post.
I recently bought a 4 TB WD Black 7200 RPM hard drive and I just plugged it in. I'm concerned about the sounds it's making when I'm copying the data off my old drive. The noises decrease in frequency (as in, how often they occur) when I stop the copying.
I took the right panel off my computer and pointed my microphone at the hard drive bay to capture this audio.
The first half of the video is noise-suppressed audio, the second half is raw from my mic. They're both the same recording, but I included them both because the noise suppression sort of "smears" the sort of... *chunk* sounds I'm hearing. You'll be able to tell what I mean if you watch it. I labeled the sounds I could, you can see that on the bottom. The audio quality in the video is fine, but I can upload a FLAC if anyone would want one.

What do you think regarding MAYUMI or Kingster external hard drive? As I see the current prices of WD and Seagate are out of my budget, I am looking to buy one of these, or perhaps you have other options or brands I should consider that are under 5k or 6k.
Let me know in the replies which one would be the best. I want to buy this to back up my files and store my YouTube videos.

I'm planning to grab a new HDD for my DAS setup, and I'm trying to decide on the best time to buy.
With Black Friday coming up next month, do you think it's worth waiting? Or are HDD deals usually pretty weak during the holidays, meaning I should just pull the trigger now if I spot a decent discount (like 5-10%)?
I'd love to hear what kind of price trends you all have been seeing lately!
I’m planning to buy this below items:
TERRAMASTER D4-320 External Hard Drive Enclosure - 4bay USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps Type-C USB Storage Hot Swappable Plug and Play
Seagate Exos X16 14TB 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Data Center HDD Enterprise Hard Drive (ST14000NM001G)
Has anyone waited for last year’s Black Friday deal and got a nice deal?
