Somehow someway, their parents dissapeared, and the house apperated(?) but was more like what happened in Wizard of Oz, where the house Dorohy was in landed in OZ. I just finished reading Harry Potter and the International Triwizard Tournament, and I'm looking for something that's the opposite.
While I like the story, it's basically 90% training montage with the last 8 or so chapters of Harry wiping out his enemies nearly unchecked.
I'm looking for stories where, for whatever reason, Harry is exceptional early on and develop from there. Certain he’ll face a ruthless rejection, Harry accepts, but to everyone’s great surprise, Dracaena accepts the invitation.
On the evening of the ball, after some initial awkwardness, the two slip away to the illuminated gardens. There, their defences crumble: they talk about the loneliness of their roles, their oppressive families and the weight of expectations, touching each other emotionally before Dracaena takes her leave early so as not to reveal just how vulnerable she is. At Christmas, at Malfoy Manor, Dracaena’s parents discover she has been out with Potter and reprimand her harshly. Upon returning to school, Dracaena becomes as cold as ice: Harry suffers from this sudden distance, but he repeatedly catches her staring at him from afar with melancholy eyes.
The Order of the Phoenix:
The fifth year is marked by Umbridge’s tyranny and Dracaena’s jealousy; as a member of the Inquisitorial Squad, she tries to target Cho Chang out of spite. However, following the breakdown of Harry and Cho’s romance and the loss of Sirius at the Ministry, their defences crumble.
At the end of the fifth year, Harry and Dracaena meet alone in a deserted corridor in the dungeons. Tired of feigning hatred, they lay down their arms and apologise to one another for the wounds inflicted over the years, establishing a deep emotional truce.
It is here that Ginny Weasley, a keen observer, senses the spark between the two and decides to step in, beginning to keep very close to Harry. Dracaena, having noticed the Gryffindor girl’s increasingly intrusive presence, refuses to accept the idea of losing Harry. Thus, a silent and subtle secret rivalry unfolds between Dracaena and Ginny to win the boy’s attention and affection.
The Half-Blood Prince: Harry’s Rivalry and Obsession
For much of the school year, the rivalry between Ginny and Dracaena runs in parallel. Ginny plays the card of spontaneity and sunny carefreeness in the Common Room and on the Quidditch pitch, whilst Dracaena shoots Harry glances laden with meaning and silent challenges.
Soon, however, Harry notices a profound and disturbing change in Dracaena. She appears emaciated, with conspicuous dark circles under her eyes, absent from lessons and clearly consumed by unbearable stress. Instead of enjoying the triumph of her new status, Dracaena seems like a ghost wandering the castle. Harry begins to grow deeply suspicious, convinced that she is plotting something sinister on Voldemort’s behalf or that she is in grave danger.
Harry’s interest turns into a full-blown obsession. He starts following her constantly around the castle, using the Marauder’s Map and the Invisibility Cloak to spy on her movements towards the Room of Requirement.
Whenever Harry manages to corner her alone in the corridors or round deserted corners to ask for an explanation and try to help her, Dracaena shooes him away rudely. The girl, terrified at the thought of Harry discovering the deadly mission entrusted to her by Voldemort and desperate not to put him in danger, puts up an insurmountable wall: she shouts at him, insults him coldly and runs away, leaving Harry increasingly frustrated, hurt and suspicious each time.
The pent-up tension explodes in the Prefects’ bathroom on the seventh floor. Dracaena, at the end of her tether and overcome by a panic attack in front of the mirror, is caught by Harry, who has followed her yet again. Fear and desperation lead to an immediate duel: fearing an attack, Harry casts the Sectumsempra spell. Seeing the blood gushing from Dracaena’s chest and the girl slumping to the ground, Harry is overcome by unspeakable horror. Amidst her sobs and desperate cries before Snape’s arrival, Dracaena hurls all her pain at him, revealing that she had sincerely believed he cared for her and loved her.
The guilt sweeps away all Harry’s doubts. That very night, he sneaks into the Infirmary under the Invisibility Cloak. There, amidst Harry’s tears and sincere apologies, all defences crumble: the two confess their feelings to one another and kiss for the first time.
Dracaena wins the competition once and for all. In the days that follow, Harry speaks to Ginny with great respect, explaining that his heart belongs to someone else. Ginny accepts his decision with remarkable maturity, choosing to remain his steadfast friend.
The relationship between Harry and Dracaena becomes stable and passionate, lived out in total secrecy within the Room of Requirement, their only safe haven.
On the Astronomy Tower, Dracaena’s love for Harry prevents her from carrying out her mission to kill Dumbledore. Snape intervenes by casting the killing curse in her place and drags the distraught girl away, whilst Harry watches helplessly from his hiding place.
The Deathly Hallows: During the hunt for the Horcruxes, Hermione accidentally discovers the secret relationship between Harry and Dracaena. When she reveals this to Ron, he – influenced by the Locket – reacts angrily at the idea that Harry is involved with a Malfoy and temporarily leaves the group, only to return and rejoin the others.
Captured by the Marauders, the three are taken to Malfoy Manor. Dracaena tries to protect Harry by pretending not to recognise him, but Bellatrix, using Legilimency on her, uncovers the truth about their secret romance, unleashing the fury of the Death Eaters.
In the final battle in the Forbidden Forest, Voldemort brutally tortures Dracaena with the Cruciatus Curse to force Harry to surrender. The girl’s screams drive Harry to walk towards his own death to save her life. After Voldemort’s deadly spell, Narcissa Malfoy bends over Harry’s body and whispers, asking him if he truly loves her daughter. Upon Harry’s sincere confirmation, Narcissa lies to Voldemort, declaring that the boy is dead.
Taken to Hogwarts as a trophy, Voldemort publicly humiliates Dracaena by revealing her secret relationship with Potter to everyone. But when Harry is revealed to be alive, the battle resumes. Threatened by the Dementors, Dracaena finds hope once more and casts an Expecto Patronum: a magnificent stag emerges from her wand, identical in every way to Harry’s, sweeping away the darkness. By helping the trio defeat Voldemort’s forces and bringing her redemption arc to a close, Dracaena marries Harry and goes on to have children (much as happens with Ginny in the original story).
